to expect my childminder to use DS's £400 pram for him!!!!!

Well, i'm silently fuming! When one of my ds's starting with a childminder friend we bough a silver cross linear freeway for her to use so that we don't have to lug prams etc around all the time. He is her only charge as he is mildly disabled and she is fantastic with him, however, yesterday i nipped out of work to go to the bank and saw something that has wound me up!

The childminders daughter has come to visit for a few days with her 8-month old baby, so there's the start of the story!

I turned round in town and saw my SC pram (very distinctive as is a limited edition colour and i've not seen one the same) went over to say hello to DS and what did i see- the grandaughter sitting in my lovely pram, and my ds shovelled into a cheapo £15 beach type buggy- no padding, no canopy, doesn't lie back etc!

should i say something? am i being silly? Just really annoys me that the daughter is a real cheapskate- has the cheapest of cheap travel system from argos then swans off with my pram as soon as she gets the opportunity! I would understand if she had a small car and couldn't fit everything in, so asked in advance if she could borrrow it, but i know for a fact that her travel system is in the boot of her very large car!!!

Change your childminder

MrsApron · 07/04/2007 21:04

hmmmm good post zookeeper. Personally I think if it was comparable for comfort I would still have been peeved but not red mist peeved.

However I do have a thing about babies/toddlers being comfortable in pushchairs and probably err on the side of caution to achieve this.

But I will judgey judge judge those who push teeny tiny newborns about in upright positions with no suspension, head hugger or enough blankets on (scottish - freezing emoticon requirted).

LittleEasterLapin · 07/04/2007 21:06

For a start, zookeeper, the full quote was

"the thing that really got me is that she knows the reason lo has such a nice second buggy is that i run a few baby-shops and so people know that he is one of my ds's and they expect that he is well presented in a quality pram!"

In other words, the CM knows it is important to the OP that her child uses this pram. Whether it is for snob value, business reasons or due to her child's disability, does not matter. The CM has a responsibility to keep the equipment provided for the child, and that child only.

nearlythere, if there was an incredibly swanky but uncomfortable buggy around, and you had seen DS in that, rather than cheapo option, would you still have been pissed off? I know I would have.

Correct me if I am wrong, but most of us do at least a little research into these things before we buy them? So that should be respected.

And I think the OPs comments about the daughter's cheap travel system were designed to illustrate WHY she would leap at the chance of using the OPs buggy.

kittypants · 07/04/2007 21:06

pretend it was coat(or whatever) instead of pushchair.cm gave her gd nearlytheres ds coat to wear and put him in another for unknown reason.bad.cost,make etc of pushchair is irrelevant.twas his!id just simply ask why when i saw you was my ds not in his pushchair.not get funny or whatever,so just ask straight question, hopefully get straight answer.am i speaking crap,im tired

MrsApron · 07/04/2007 21:06

Colditz - surely not!

JodieG1 · 07/04/2007 21:07

I'd have said something at the time and would be very annoyed. I'd likely change cm too as I wouldn't trust her anymore and trust is the most important thing imo.

zookeeper · 07/04/2007 21:11

The problem for me is that any point that nearlythere might have had has been overshadowed by the quite breathtaking snobbery she has shown and the way that she clearly looks down on anyone who choses to buy cheap params

zookeeper · 07/04/2007 21:12

prams

powder28 · 07/04/2007 21:14

I prefer params

MrsApron · 07/04/2007 21:14

No one want to take me up on newborn judging?

No one?

Oh gwan .

I was at least expecting someone to say
"but they might have reflux."

fireflyfairy2 · 07/04/2007 21:15

Just had a look at the Xplory.. & it's the one DH & I were laughing at in town last week

Hulababy · 07/04/2007 21:16

I like the Xplory.

Lact8 · 07/04/2007 21:18

Is the xplory the one that looks like an office chair on a pole?

zookeeper · 07/04/2007 21:19

lol if prams are seen as cars wtf would it be?

Hulababy · 07/04/2007 21:19

here

bozza · 07/04/2007 21:20

MrsApron I am more likely to judge people who are wearing a vest top in an indoor shopping centre pushing a pram in which a baby is covered by a blanket and has the raincover on. Real greenhouse effect from a raincover.

fireflyfairy2 · 07/04/2007 21:20

Just googled the silvercross pram, lovely!!!!

fireflyfairy2 · 07/04/2007 21:22

I wouldn't dream of passing comment on someones pram. The one we were laughing at was in a shop.. have never actually seen anyone with one... yet!!

Don't know what it would be if it were a car..

But the OP definitely is within her rights to be angry about the c/minder gd being in it & not in her own pram/stroller!!

powder28 · 07/04/2007 21:26

I saw someone with a three seated pram a few months back. The only one ive ever seen.

LittleEasterLapin · 07/04/2007 21:30

ooh, powder I saw one of those in Mothercare. With triplets in! I embarassed myself by staring but the mum laughed and said she was used to it... it was a pantechnicon of a buggy!

Hulababy · 07/04/2007 21:33

Quad buggies available too!!!

chocolateface · 07/04/2007 21:33

I was shopping at Fosse Park in Leicester a few weeks ago and I saw a tripple pram in Next. Then I went into M&S and there was another!

powder28 · 07/04/2007 21:33

I've got a jane three wheeler double buggy for my two. Its fantastic except i make a fool of myself if i have to go up raised kerbs, it tends to tip if you dont get the balance right.

LittleEasterLapin · 07/04/2007 21:34

Holy smoke hulababy!

powder28 · 07/04/2007 21:34

HA Ha, vicky pollard springs to mind.

Actually they look lovely, its worth having four kids just for the nice pushchair.
