To think this is fucking inappropriate

There was a murder in our village a few days ago, shocking and sad police/fi crews etc been around the past few days.
On Facebook tonight I see a post from someone I know, a picture of her kids tearing about with police caps on pulling stupid faces at the side of one of the police cars that is parked at the house/street where the murder happened, and the post was something along the lines of "it's sad but life goes on"
Aibu in thinking this is in poor taste?

OP posts:
ParkheadParadise · 27/09/2017 10:56

In 2015 my dd was killed. I will NEVER forget what some people thought was ok to post about in social media.
It was reported in the local press, which I couldn't do anything about we also had reporters outside our house.
But the people who posted on Facebook making out they knew me and also knew what happened to my dd.
One person in particular seemed to give alot of updates, was devastated not only was she close to the family, she also knew the man who had unfortunately found my Dd. She seemed to love the attention she was getting.
I did not know this person or did any of my family.
I wish people would stop and think about what the post on social media.

guilty100 · 27/09/2017 11:00

I'm so sorry you went through this parkhead. Flowers I honestly can't even begin to imagine how you felt. I'm so sorry.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 27/09/2017 11:06

Excepting the posters who genuinely have their own sad events to post about I agree with coddiwomple. Too many people do look down on others forgetting that they themselves are being a bit crass and drama-loving. It's just non-stop attention-seeking and like CamperVamp says, just more obsessive, mindless living-out-lives on facebook.

OP, you're 'disgusted' and posting it here. Do you think the relatives of the deceased person would find it comforting or just a bit mawkish perhaps?

I see so many threads here that are in poor taste yet posters think that they can and should post on them and, just as long as they pepper their comments with fake platitudes and censure about other people, are above reproach themselves... it really makes my skin itch and yes, it's bloody hypocritical.

coddiwomple · 27/09/2017 11:06

I too am sorry parkhead Flowers
and respect for carrying on.

TheCatsMother99 · 27/09/2017 15:29

I'm so sorry to hear about your DD, parkhead.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/09/2017 15:38

Flowers. I'm so sorry, Park head

balsamicbarbara · 27/09/2017 19:05

How is "it's sad but life goes on" twattish? Politicians said similar crap after recent terrorist atrocities that we should let it stop us and all that crud. And it's true.

LolaTheDarkdestroyer · 27/09/2017 19:30

It's a whole different context though compared to a terrorist attack..this is a small local community and someone's family member has been murdered, any one local could have seen it.

houghtonk76 · 28/09/2017 18:15

Parkhead - sorry to hear of your loss. Will keep you in my thoughts. Wishing you all the best.

Carriecakes80 · 28/09/2017 18:19

I would be surprised, but last week I saw some folk I know putting up selfies they took at a funeral. And the funeral was a horrible one, that sounds wrong, there are NO nice funerals, but what I mean is, this funeral was for a little boy, and these were family members, pulling trout pout faces at the Wake afterwards.
I felt sick, and so angry, I wrote the longest post, however never posted it because there were others it would have affected and upset...but really, some people are utter and total fuck nuggets.

Carriecakes80 · 28/09/2017 18:19

I am so sorry Parkhead - My love and thoughts are with you. :-( xxx

MiddleClassProblem · 28/09/2017 19:48

ParkheadParadise sorry for your loss Flowers

I wouldn't have been able to not call her out on FB for it. Well done for keeping your dignity x

Eveforever · 28/09/2017 20:06

I agree, it's completely inappropriate. I wouldn't be spending any time with people who thought and behaved like that.

eulmh · 28/09/2017 20:31

Would life go on for her if it was one of her family affected?! So rude and yes disrespectful, says a lot about her

coddiwomple · 28/09/2017 21:31

Would life go on for her if it was one of her family affected?!
well, yes it probably would. Especially if you have children (or other children) you don't really have the choice.

Most of us had a fairly average day on and after Sept 11th, the Grenfell tragedy, the recent London attacks (and I was in London then!). I don't agree with disrespecting a bereaved family, but can't see how anyone would go into mourning for a stranger either.

Eveforever · 28/09/2017 21:54

She's not suggesting people should go into mourning. She is questioning the appropriateness of people treating a brutal death like it is simply a piece of entertainment to be enjoyed.

Sparklyhousedust · 29/09/2017 00:03

Parkhead, I am sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you.

JaniceBattersby · 29/09/2017 00:09

Everywhere you look these days, there's some bellend just waiting for their next opportunity to create a viral FB post.

Selfies in police hats outside a fresh murder scene can never be appropriate, can it? I'm surprised she got so many likes. Round here parts she'd have been absolutely destroyed by locals.

Purplealienpuke · 29/09/2017 06:14

💐 for those posters who've lost love ones in terrible circumstances.
That's hard enough but to add crass attention seeking idiots into the mix must be just unbearable. Some people definitely need a rational person editing their social media (Donald Trump springs to mind)
The person who posted the fb post with children in police hats saying life goes on, well life does. But at that moment in time that particular post was incentive to the family of the murder victim. She could have saved that comment for a future time really....

MaybeDoctor · 29/09/2017 11:08

I don't know what people are thinking, sometimes. I have seen something similar and was really disappointed that the parents could be so ignorant.

Really sorry that you had to go through that on top of your devastating loss, Parkhead.

ParkheadParadise · 29/09/2017 13:28

I wouldn't have been able to not call her out on FB for it. Well done for keeping your dignity x

My Sister contacted the FB page and asked them to remove the post, which they did but it had over 200 comments so to me the damage was already done.

I still believe that there is people who would never discuss something so awful on the internet. The man who found my dd never ONCE talked about it in public.I know he was repeatedly asked for his story and reporters went to his home.

We met up with him after the court case. We wanted to thank him. He had also seen the FB page and was disgusted and didn't know her.

guilty100 · 29/09/2017 13:33

I know of another case where someone who was really suffering a dreadful loss had the story picked up in the press and she said one of the things that has stayed with her the longest was hearing it talked about casually, flippantly and cruelly by random strangers. I wish people would have some thought about the fact that the below-the-line comments they leave on a news story might be seen by the family in question. Discussing a point is one thing, but just leaving a mindless, baseless and cruel comment because you're bored is an awful thing to do. It's not hard to have more fucking class than that.

Flowers for you Parkhead. I hope this thread isn't too upsetting for you.

meltingmarshmallows · 29/09/2017 13:42

SM has a lot to answer for. There was a tragic incident locally where two babies passed away, in non suspicious circumstances. The family requested privacy but people speculated so much in the comments of news articles on FB the police had to issue a statement pointing out it's not helpful. The mind boggles.

KnowsStuff · 29/09/2017 14:44

Absolutely undeniably INAPPROPRIATE!! 🙈

manicmij · 29/09/2017 14:56

Probably "play" police hats. YANBU. Who in their right mind allow kids to play anywhere near where something so tragic had occurred. Total disrespect and mother should be keeping her children away. We are into the second generation of folk with total disrespect allowing them to get whatever they want.
