to fucking hate exercise?

Just HATE exercising. I know it's good for your health and blablabla but fuck me I find it dull. I wish I was someone who enjoyed it.

The only thing I really do is walking because I don't drive so it fits into what I'm doing anyway - eg walking into town rather than taking the bus. And I don't actively enjoy that either, just don't actively hate it.

Hate running, hate aerobics of any sort including zumba (I'm SO uncoordinated), quite like swimming so I do that occasionally but our nearest pool isn't very easy to get to, can't cycle for the same reason I can't drive, hate the sodding gym, HATE yoga and pilates.

Anyone else just a lazy fucker at heart? Or am I being VVU and exercise is amazing and I just haven't discovered that yet?

Maybe buy an energetic dog that needs walking twice a day, that'll get you out hail rain and shine, whether you like it or not! (possibly not an option in London though....)

Ha yes sadly we live in a first floor gardenless flat. One day though...

I've just googled - there is a taekwondo class near me on a wednesday night...

I quite fancy it though I would feel really shy just turning up not knowing anyone.

You walk op??

Walking is an Olympic sport

I run... only since hitting 40 though, and I love it.

coddiwomple · 26/09/2017 13:58

Oh, and all that runners high stuff is bullshit put about by people who've never had a real high
How would you know?

Only purpose to exercise is to be attractive to the opposite sex, imo
Yes, because a red sweaty stinky (but happy) mess is attractive Hmm

InvisibleKittenAttack · 26/09/2017 13:58

Set up a dog walking company and get paid to walk other people's dogs - it won't be "exercise" but "working". You might hate it, but at least you'll earn money rather than spend money doing something you hate.

moonlight1705 · 26/09/2017 14:08

Ahh go for it - my class did a free month to start to see if you liked it or not.

Plus if they are anything like my class then you will have new friends within minutes!

FiveShelties · 26/09/2017 14:14

You are definitely not alone or unreasonable. I don't mind walking the dog but once joined a gym and hated it. The best bit was the shower afterwards Grin

RunningOutOfCharge · 26/09/2017 14:16

Oh and runners high??

Yes,definitely exists. It’s addictive

GreatBigPolarBear · 26/09/2017 14:20

Walking is really good.
But you could try rowing if you like water? I hear there's a nice river in London Wink

allfurcoatnoknickers · 26/09/2017 14:24

Me! Me! I hate exercise too. You're not alone OP! I never get a high from it and actually find it really really stressful and awful for my mental health.I do quite like yoga, but hate anything that makes me get out of breath or sweaty. I also LOATHE team sports. I think I'll need hardcore therapy before I ever pick up a netball again.

I also don't think I ever really see good enough results to make the misery worthwhile. Yeah, my tummy's a bit flatter, but I'm not sure that's worth the hell of spin class.

Don't even get me started on running. I had to stop because I would start crying hysterically on runs because it made me so miserable stressed and anxious and I was so bad at it I felt shit about myself afterwards. I'm not overweight though and enjoy moving/ being out and about and have two hyperactive dogs I need to walk every day. I just hate exercise.

Itscurtainsforyou · 26/09/2017 14:40

I'm completely with you OP - this is why I'm trying to encourage my children to find a sport/activity they enjoy, in the hope they'll keep it up into adulthood...

I like swimming. I'm currently attempting running (not very successfully so far) but exercise is not my thing.

The reason I try do it (apart from to lose weight) is that there's a strong history of heart problems, strokes etc in my family. I'm an older parent so want to be around as long as possible. I also have back and joint problems and find they are massively improved if I exercise.

It's pretty crap as I'd be much happier sat on the sofa drinking wine, but I tell myself it will be worth it in the long run...

Sunnydaysrock · 26/09/2017 14:48

I hate exercise. I hate the feeling that I'm taking time out to do it and could doing lots of other things. But... For the last year and a half I have done 30-35 minutes running on a mini trampoline in front of the TV every week day morning. It's been amazing. I've lost weight and my body shape has changed. I do it as soon as I get up then it's done and out the way for the rest of the day.

Nquartz · 26/09/2017 14:53

I hate it too, can't face joining a gym & my knees can't hack running anymore.
Recently found exercise classes at the local trampoline park, amazing for my figure & fitness & I actually enjoy it.
Have to make sure I go for a wee just before though Blush

HungerOfThePine · 26/09/2017 15:53

I'm a bit like that op, can't find the motivation to keep going when I start something. Yoga lasted 5 days, I used to do training at home and was motivated for a good while and could see and feel the results.

Now looking at other ways. Salsa is great fun for me but I can't go to it regularly but might try youtubing the steps and do classes when I Can, Also been looking at kick boxing and may brave it this weekend as always wanted to try it. Smile

GhostsToMonsoon · 26/09/2017 16:35

If you like walking, there are various clubs in London that organise country walks at weekends. Usually taking a particular train out of London and meeting at the destination station.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 26/09/2017 16:46

Sammme. But I'm trying to make myself do something each day, even if it's tiny.

So at the moment, I'm going through on YouTube. They're only 15/20mins and I find it bearable if I watch something on Netflix at the same time Blush.

I also enjoy walking, and at the moment I'm trying to find somewhere local to play badminton (harder than you'd think, but there seems to be tennis courts everywhere!). I tried yoga (also on YouTube) for a bit and could feel myself getting stronger, but like you found it pretty tedious and have now fallen out of the habit.

I generally eat well but know exercise is important in keeping me healthy and energised. It just feels like a chore most of the time!

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 26/09/2017 16:47

Oh and I keep a highlighted note in my calendar of what I've done each day – it keeps me motivated looking back and seeing that I've moved off my arse a bit!

reetgood · 26/09/2017 16:51

The benefits of exercise are about being active. You don't have to be exercising to be active. Reframe it, do things you like doing that get you moving. Walking, dancing, swimming, climbing etc etc

I like running, walking and yoga. I like to dance. I do not like the gym or team sports. It was a grand day when I figured out there's a difference.

And yes there is such a thing as a runners high. It's just endorphins. Not being actually high.

reetgood · 26/09/2017 16:53

Oh and walking, even if it doesn't raise a sweat, still has health benefits. So ignore smug mate and take a lunchtime stroll if you like doing that. Moving some is better than moving not at all.

RosaDeZoett · 26/09/2017 17:30

Is it true that 15mins on the trampoline is worth 30 mins running? Or did I imagine that because I wished it were true Smile I would also have to watch out for the tena lady moments....

reetgood · 26/09/2017 17:31

It depends what the worth is to you - are you more likely to do the trampoline? Then do that.

ParsnipLeekAndLemonSoup · 26/09/2017 17:33

I could definitely get on board with trampolining!!

OP posts:
ivykaty44 · 26/09/2017 17:39

I don't think op is lazy as she walks, even if she walks to the bus stop - it's much further than the drive from the front door.

On the exercise front you probably just haven't found anything you like

Woman often associate exercise with weight and really it's about a down payment on health

But many people drive to the gym

ParsnipLeekAndLemonSoup · 26/09/2017 17:41

I suspect I'd be a lot lazier if I could actually drive

OP posts:
opheliacat · 26/09/2017 17:42

Anything I could do I would like is impractical as I live too far away or it is too expensive. I hate exercise but just do it. I reserve the right to hate every second though Grin

RosaDeZoett · 26/09/2017 17:42

Well I really enjoy running but I was told by physio it's a bit high impact for my old lady body (those were not her exact words but it's what she meant Grin) She recommended I just not overdo it and maybe compliment with something lower impact like cycling or swimming..... I presume trampolining count as low impact? Could something so fun actually count as exercise? 😂
