To think i look like a weird freak of nature in photos

I dont get it. I really like the way i look in the mirror and in videos too.

But ive just taken some passport photos and i look like an absolute freak. My eyes look like an axe murder, my bone structure has completely melted away so i look like my face is just a slab and my face appears to be totally lopsided.

How is it possible to go from video goddess (JOKE) to still photo monster?

I have an asymmetric face which, in photos looks like I've had a stroke.

The right side of my mouth looks like it's pulling down.

It is just odd isn't it i want to cry when i see pictures of myself mum has a photo of me in primary 1 and i have the same look i was 5 how can a 5yrold not be photogenic 😕

I've just learned that one reason we don't like photos of ourselves and don't think we look like that is because we're used to seeing our faces in a mirror, and in a mirror we see our faces, well, mirrored. Not the way we look to others. Tbh I'm still struggling to understand this completely. Anyway, I'm better-looking mirrored, clearly. Very depressing. In all photos I look terrible.

More depressing: apparently narcissists hate photos of themselves for this reason. Am I therefore a narcissist?

My brother is a photographer so I got him to do my passport pics. I'm far too vain to be irked by those awful machines. I know you're not allowed smile in passport photos but if you do a bit of a Tyra smize it really helps. Just widen your eyes and lift the corners of your mouth ever so slightly to avoid that Hindley mugshot look.

This exact thing happened to me yesterday. Hopped into a photo booth feeling cute as hell to get some passport photos.. came out with photos of a greasy haired shiny faced bag lady with a squint!

Oh god yes! I have a weird crease in my chin which, when coupled with passport pic over-exposure, makes it look like I'm flamboyantly duck-facing in my passport photo. Can't wait for 2024!

I'm actually OK in passport photos, but ordinary photos - forget it! I think it's partly because I dislike posing in a line of people for a picture with a fiery passion. So I always look like someone who is awkwardly doing something they really don't want to do. The best pictures I have of myself are those where I am off guard.

Flip the photos so you get the 'you' you are used to seeing in the mirror.

You can still get awful photos sometimes but you can often find they look more like you, good or bad.

Just get an old photo and hold it up to the mirror if it's not digital, to see if there is any difference.

I moved ever so slightly in my last passport photo, it came out so much clearer in the print and looked like I had a disjointed nose for a decade.

I look awful in all photographs even my wedding photographs when I think I actually looked nice on the day.
As a family we once went and got a professional family photo shoot everyone else looked lovely, I looked like a troll with constipation.
In normal photo's I have a big flat man in the moon type of face, passport photo's are even worse because I wear glasses I have to take them off and then I look like a squinty man in the moon.
I just refuse to have my photo taken now.

I have one eye that closes slightly more than the other and a really strange smile. I look terrible in photos but I know I look ok in RL! I am just not photogenic.

Plus no matter how well I do my make up, my skin always looks terrible!

I don't know, I think my mum's a narcissist and she loves photos of herself. She tried to give ME a photo of her done at one of those cheesy "make you look sexy and beautiful" sessions because she thought I'd like it on my wall. She has one on hers (yes of herself posing in a nightie).

I manage ok when I'm taking a selfie because I can angle my face into something approaching that of a normal person's. But when someone else takes a photo of me, I look awful.

I hate it because I like having my photo taken to document an occasion but I never end up liking the result.

In my passport photo I look like a serial killer . My husband begged me not to send the photo and just get new ones. For my replacement license they take three photos none accepted took three more none accepted . In the end they just picked one of the Dodgy ones . So all I'd I have are of me looking shit

Same here - look ok in real life but a total dick in photos. It's either a wanted poster look if I don't smile and an evil dead eyed grimace if i do. Occasionally a photo is taken when I am unaware of it and then it might be acceptable.

Yep, I despise how I look in photos. My cheeks always look fat, nose looks huge and pointed and generally I just look a bit 'special'.
I don't know how anyone can take selfies, I can't even look at myself in the mirror without thinking 'urgh'

My DH had a passport photo done recently. He is lovely looking. He looked so HORRIFIC he had them done again! It just did not look like him at all.

The second ones were the same so he concluded that he must indeed look like a sleep deprived serial killer and dejectedly filled in the form

My last passport photo is a corker.
My left eye is slightly lazy. Not really enough to notice in real life, but in the passport photo booth it bloody notices.
The booth I used had the instructions on a digital screen to the left of the camera. It had a countdown so I looked back at the camera at the right moment.
Except my left eye lagged behind. In my picture I'm looking in two different directions.
Gaaaah!
