I know it's not the most devastating thing in the world- people live through worse...but...

We have four house cats. One of them has somehow escaped (kitchen window, we think).

We've been calling him all day and shaking his food, but he's still gone!

Will he be ok out there? He's a house cat- n9t used to going out!

He's now been missing for 24 hours.

My cat was missing at least 8 weeks. Found him when I went out for lunch, appeared from the woods at the restaurant. Was amazing. We almost didn't go there for lunch. Both my cats went missing for 24-48 hours a few times.
Good luck OP.

One of ours went missing for 3 months then reappeared one day as calm as you please as though he’d popped out 5 minutes before! He was in perfect condition too. And we live in a village so people knew him (he’s very distinctive) so,it isn’t as though someone thought he was a stray. He is chipped as well.

Don’t give up,hope. We talk of his absence now as his gap year!

AwkwardPaws27 · 26/01/2019 09:35

Make sure your microchip contact details are up to date and Snape is flagged as missing too!

thecatsthecats · 26/01/2019 10:35

Our idiot boy got out of the garden during the heatwave last year in search of barbeques.

We usually blocked up the gap at the back of the garden (they're 16 and have no hope with the fences), but he never wandered far normally. His lingest absence was four hours.

His brother freaked out, pacing and mewing for days. One social media campaign with the local cat group and neighbourhood watch group later and he was found a mile away, starving hungry and demanding food from a nice lady who said she'd have kept him if she couldn't find the owner. I knew it was him when she called me, because I could hear his ridiculously loud yell from the other room whilst she was calling.

Furry dickhead wasn't allowed out for 3 weeks whilst I turned the garden exits into a gulag.

My mum's cat turned up almost a year after she vanished. I saw her in the garden of a house less than 100 meters away. Knocked the door dnd the man was pleased as he said she was a stray he'd been feeding. Unfortunately she was in a dreadful state and gravely ill by then with advanced cancer and suffering fits so had to be PTS next day. I guess we saved her from pain. Whilst the man meant well the missing poster with her photo on was still on the lamp post outside his house! The local vets knew too.

DishingOutDone · 26/01/2019 23:19

We found a cat and took it to the vet, it had been missing 4 months from the next town! The vet said they sometimes get into open back trucks or get in a van by mistake and get a ride.

And my friend who lives next to a school lost her cat in July. Guess what happened in September?! It had lived the whole summer inside the school.

AFridgeTooFar · 26/01/2019 23:28

Wow- I can't believe this was over a year ago!

Snape never turned up 😕. We moved house soon after this thread was posted.

Matilda15 · 27/01/2019 00:30

A friend of our family’s cat went missing, they gave up and rehomed 2 kittens after 3 months, 13 months later they got a phone call. He’d been picked up 12 miles away as a stray and he now lives happily with the other 2 cats.
Don’t lose hope!

Maelstrop · 27/01/2019 00:39

I'd just moved house and had to go away for work for a week. My housemate called to say the cat had gone missing. I spent a week looking, leafleting. I finally got a call telling me they'd seen him but he wouldn't come to them. Round the bloody corner, stupid boy. I went and showed him a tin, he was up a height on a wall. He was filthy, skinny and delighted to see me! Don't give up, OP!

Ladyoftheloch · 27/01/2019 00:43

It’s still very early days OP so be hopeful! Cats are incredibly resilient and self-sufficient. He is likely scared if he isn’t used to being out, and hiding somewhere. He will work up the courage to get home.

I’ve had housecats and outdoor cats go missing for days at a time then turn up absolutely fine. It’s really, really common. Leave something scented of him (litter tray is good) near the window. He will find his way home.

2 of my 4 Siamese did the disappearing act on me last year. I was frantic.

Horror #1 did a Thursday morning to Friday afternoon. I suspect he was noseying in a shed on nearby allotments & got locked in.

Horror #2, last seen on a Friday afternoon during the hot weather & didn't come home until Monday lunchtime. I was a blubbering mess by then.

Hope your baby comes home soon.

Yawnyprawn · 27/01/2019 09:57

My cat went missing for 3 weeks then turned up half a mile away stealing food from someone else's cats! The owners took him to the vet to have his microchip scanned and that's how he made his way back to us. Hope yours turns up soon!

PineappleExpress · 27/01/2019 10:42

My house cat disappeared for 9 days last year. I tried all the tricks of leaving the litter box, some food (I think the neighbourhood cats were well fed that week 🙄), blankets/clothes out where she would be able to smell them. There was no sign of her, so I just started leaving the back door open all day and night, and left her food bowl on the dining table.
It was this time last year, when it was really bloody cold, so I shut the door one night. Freaked out the next day that that might have been the time she came back only to find I'd locked her out, so opened it again and in the early hours the next morning and she came meowing at my bedroom door. Never been so bloody relieved!

And to the OP, don't ever feel silly for crying over a lost pet!! I took the week off work because I was so distraught at the thought of her getting hurt or not coming back 😳 obviously lied and said I was sick, though 🤫

AFridgeTooFar · 27/01/2019 13:49

Lady it's really not early days: the cat has been missing for about 18 months now. Someone resurrected the thread.
