I know it's not the most devastating thing in the world- people live through worse...but...

We have four house cats. One of them has somehow escaped (kitchen window, we think).

We've been calling him all day and shaking his food, but he's still gone!

Will he be ok out there? He's a house cat- n9t used to going out!

He's now been missing for 24 hours.

My cat recently fucked off for over two weeks.

We were on holiday (in U.K.) and I became ill and went straight from holiday to hospital whilst kids went to their dad. We have a catflap and twice daily visits from lovely catsitter continued whilst I was incarcerated on the surgical ward, but she clearly got her arse in her hand about my long absence and when I came out of hospital there was no sign of her (the others were very pleased to see me though).

It was over two weeks of calling and shaking food and putting litter outside and the kids scouring the neighbourhood and local allotments and I became convinced she had been stolen or something had happened to her (she's healthy and fit but nearly 15). Then one night I heard a noise at the door, opened it, and the smug bitch sauntered in like nothing had happened, smacked the kittens round the head, ate all the food and went to sleep on the dining room table.

Absolutely NO IDEA where she'd been but she was healthy and glossy and had clearly eaten well. Fucker. I keep asking but she won't tell me.

We are so pleased to have the wandering swine home though Grin

Our cats aren't house cats, but we've been living in our current house for 3 years now and one of them regularly goes back to the old house and doesn't come back unless we go to get her. We think she can find her way there but then she confused as to how to come back! She's been gone for a few weeks before (if we can't find her when we go looking) and always seems fine when we get her home. There are woods near where we used to live and I'm pretty sure she hunts her food while she's gone.

feelingdizzy · 25/09/2017 21:18

About 2 years ago our cat disappeared for 6 weeks!reappeared one morning like he had just been gone for a few minutes.
Since then he has wandered less.

letsmargaritatime · 25/09/2017 21:30

Our cat escaped, first night in new house so she had no idea how to find her way home. Six weeks later I drove by her about quarter of a mile away. She's still with us now 12 years later Smile

My friend's cat went missing and turned up squashed by a car. Big funeral and tree planting over the grave.

One month later, thin but alive, the cat was found locked in a neighbour's garage.

Cat lived another 8 years. They never found out who the tree was growing over.

Happyhippy45 · 25/09/2017 21:53

Facebook "Lost Pets (your town)" has worked multiple times where I live.
I don't have a pet but joined the page when a cat appeared at our back door looking lost.
So far I've reunited 3 cats with their owners via Facebook page. One had been missing for months!
Hope your cat turns up soon xx

bigbluedustbin · 25/09/2017 23:54

Friend's cat got out and turned up a year and a half later

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 26/09/2017 09:05

Any luck yet?

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 26/09/2017 19:40

None at all.

I haven't lost hope. What I have done, however, is to try to prepare the kids.

Snape would know if one of us is sad, sick or whatever. I told them that someone who is very sad may have taken him in, and he's probably happy there.

Just wanted to say that my cat was missing for 2 weeks once and turns out she had been trapped in the neighbour's garage the whole time. God knows how she survived. She was skinny but otherwise fine when found and went on to live a further 10 years!

mrsdolittle · 05/10/2017 08:07

Any luck?

AmberNectarine · 05/10/2017 11:42

We had a random cat move into our house while we were on holiday (he must have followed our cat in through his microchip flap and couldn't get out.

Owners were beside themselves with worry, but he was fine - ate my VERY disgruntled cat's food and crapped all over the rug. Made himself scarce when my dad came in to feed mine.

He was so comfy in fact, he stayed for a whole day after our return! The first we knew about it was when he popped out from behind our sofa. I was out and DH texted me a photo saying 'this random cat just appeared'. We shunted him out into the garden and he strolled home. I then found a flyer in the recycling and texted the owners to tell them where he'd been.

Hope yours has turned up by now.

SparklyMagpie · 05/10/2017 12:13

Any luck OP?

Hope snape is back home enjoying his lovely warm home and lots of love

Member984815 · 05/10/2017 12:34

Did he come back ? When I was younger I had a cat that went missing for 2 weeks and I thought the worst but he followed my brother home and he was delighted to see me . I also more recently had a cat that left for a week she was living comfortably with a lovely lady until she found a phone number in her collar and brought her back . She was only back a few days and she went off again with a different couple for a week . They found name in collar and brought her home . The final time she went while I was away my mother was taking care of her she ended up 14 miles away in a different town . Thank God for the collar with the number written in it . She loved to follow people and get in cars

FineSally · 05/10/2017 12:35

my cat went missing for about a week. He was a home lover, not a wanderer, so I was very worried.

Turned up after a week. I saw him, from my bedroom window, sitting on a bench in my neighbour's garden. I don't know if he was lost/disorientated or what. He seemed to recognise my voice when I called him, but wouldn't move. I had to carry him home. He was extremely tired and thirsty, but didn't seem much thinner. Right as rain 2 days later.

No idea where he'd been, unless he'd been locked inside someone's shed for a few days. No-one knew (or admitted) anything of course.

FarmerGilesRockfordFiles · 05/10/2017 12:50

My old cat went missing for two months. One day I came home and she was just sitting on my doorstep like nothing had happened. Apart from she seemed to have acquired a friend, a lovely black cat with one ear missing and very patchy fur.

I gave the black cat some water and a bite to eat then left it outside (assuming it'd bugger off home) but it sat on my doorstep all night. When I let my actual cat out the next day, they greeted each other like long-lost friends. So, after ascertaining that this black cat wasn't chipped we ended up keeping it.

Confused

When I was a kid My cat went missing for almost three months!
One day she jhst turned up again
A big bedraggled and worse for wear, but alive and wanting to be home. I think she had got caught up in some farm machinery

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 05/10/2017 16:57

My mums cat wandered off for about a month, we even spotted her when searching in the first week of her missing - but she hared off into the woods.

Sauntered back eventually - cantankerous as ever.

Harlexx · 26/01/2019 04:57

My own cat is missing, 5 months now. Glad I found this post, really needed to read some of the replies. Hope you got your cat back though OP.

minisoksmakehardwork · 26/01/2019 07:34

Sister's cat went missing. A bit over a week on my mum got her a kitten as we figured she wasn't coming back. Cat returned after a fortnight. As it was peak holiday time we assume she got shut in somewhere when people went away. Quite hoarse and a bit skinny but soon back to normal.

Teagoanngoanngoann · 26/01/2019 08:28

Tie a used bed sheet outside your window (as best you can) so your scent wafts in the air for the cat to follow. Or leave a cat bed outside in a box for the scent. Good luck x

Traveller104 · 26/01/2019 08:29

Our cat disappeared, we did the usual walking round, leafleting, posters etc etc for about 6 months (got to know the neighbours very well!) and eventually gave up hope.... 2.5 years later, I got a call from the local cats protection and he’d wandered into someone’s house and was eating their cats food.... his chip was scanned and he was returned to us! Other than a bit of a cauliflower ear and being covered in fleas..... he was fine!

Thisgirlcant · 26/01/2019 08:33

My friend's house cat (that had never gone out) and was very old was missing for two weeks she was convinced he'd gone away to die. One day he just strolled back in.
I hope your day turns up it may not be the worst thing but it's still very worryong.
