A friends birthday treat is to see IT. I think IT is unreasonable to expect us to let our 13 year old see it

I spent much of the film laughing and I'm normally terrified of horrors and clowns. It's not a patch on the original which was really scary, however at 13 it may have freaked me out a bit.

Idontevencareanymore · 24/09/2017 19:32

All the nope. It's a mind funk of a film. The book is scary enough let alone it actually right there.

My child wouldnt be going.

ProverbialOuthouse · 24/09/2017 19:35

I saw the original when I was about 11. I loved horror films and was a massive fan of nightmare on elm street at that age. However - when watching IT I absolutely shit myself and had nightmares for months. Even years later into my adult years I couldn't watch it without freaking out and I can usually watch anything. When the new one came out I wanted to watch it as some form of "closure" 😂

I found it creepy and disturbing - so much so that in the opening scene with the little kid getting killed (that's not a spoiler, it's in all the trailers) I had an attack of nervous laughter and was pissing myself laughing. DH turned to me and said "you twisted bastard" 😂 I didn't really find it funny, I was just scared and didn't know how to handle it.

I don't know what it is about that film but I find it terrifying. I'd let the kids watch it though, if they could get into the cinema.

My DS is 14 and he managed to get in with his friends a few weekends ago. He said it was creepy rather than scary.

I saw the original It when I was 13ish and I am still petrified of it. I can’t even look at photos of it. No way am I watching the new one, the advert was more than enough for me.

mumontherun14 · 24/09/2017 19:39

My DS 13 dying to see it. He went to cinema last week with a group of pals and one of the mum's. They didn't get it . They were asked for Id xxx

mumontherun14 · 24/09/2017 19:40

They didn't get in that was meant to say xxx

Nanny0gg · 24/09/2017 19:43

Just say no?

Take her out/have other plans instead.

It's not obligatory.

HarryHarry · 24/09/2017 19:48

It's a 13 where I live and I think that's too young. I saw the original when I was about 7 and it scared me to death. The new one isn't as scary, it feels more like a children's adventure movie (albeit with more swearing), but it does start with a kid getting his arm ripped off. It seemed a bit much for children under say, 15.

Boulshired · 24/09/2017 19:54

It is more jumpy than scary, here the teenagers know which cinema is more likely to let you in. I had my DC one just under 15 with me and (Possible Spoiler) - felt uncomfortable with the abuse the girl went through even though it is not shown.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 24/09/2017 19:56

Dd 15 waanted to watch it

So we showed her the trailer

She doesn't want to watch it anymore

I wouldnt be happy...last time she watched a scary movie she ended up in my bed, and she was still 15

TheSnowFairy · 24/09/2017 20:05

DS (15, 6ft tall) was asked for ID 3 times - at the booking office, at the entry point and at the entry to the screen.

He found parts of it terrifying so your son is BU 😱

eyebrowsonfleek · 24/09/2017 20:19

My dd (age 14) loved it.
Her older brother (age 16) who secretly doesn’t like scary movies decided to watch some of the “highlights” on YouTube/read about the key moments so he knew what people were talking about and he could act like he’d watched the film.

Ttbb · 24/09/2017 20:22

I'm 23 and yet I am too scared to go see it.

BishopBrennansArse · 24/09/2017 20:32

I laughed my arse off. But I’m twisted.
Won’t let my 13 year old see it. My local cinema are insisting on ID.

TheLegendOfBeans · 24/09/2017 20:35

She's 13.

So not old enough.

End of discussion...right? Or was my mum just overly harsh about my cinema attendance as a teenager?

BTW: if she's scared of the dark FFS don't let her watch this.

Thunderblunder · 24/09/2017 20:38

4 of my DC went to see it last week. They're 21, 17, 15 and 14. They were all mightily unimpressed and disappointed with it and thought it wasn't scary in the slightest. They all said it was a waste of money.

Thunderblunder · 24/09/2017 20:39

They weren't asked for id but then my 14 yr old is 6ft 3 and looks older than his 15 yr old sister.
