DD who is 13 wants to see IT

A friends birthday treat is to see IT. I think IT is unreasonable to expect us to let our 13 year old see it

Ds(13)'s friends wanted to see it, I told him no as he wouldn't get into a 15. His friends went, paid for tickets but were checked/told they couldn't go in at the doors.

Fekko · 24/09/2017 17:43

Sorry I missed the 'un'! Tell them not to be an arse. and find a film that the kids will all positively love, not one that some will piss themselves at but sit through, terrified, rather than refuse/leave and be teased for being a baby.

Allthebestnamesareused · 24/09/2017 17:48

Our local cinemas do ask for ID for 15s even if parents are with them.

Hulababy · 24/09/2017 17:49

MyrtleMaracas

Not at our cinemas - they've become really struct with it over the past year or so. One of DD's friends looks way older than 15 - she is over 6 foot, and passes for late teens/early 20s in many venues. However, at our local cinemas she is ID'd pretty much every time!

silverbell64 · 24/09/2017 17:51

You know your child and if you think she'd be scared then say no.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 24/09/2017 17:51

My dd and her friends went to see this last week, they are all 15/16 and every one of them had to show id.

coldcanary · 24/09/2017 17:54

DS went to see deadpool at 15 and got asked for ID, it's really silly to do this for a birthday treat if some aren't going to get in.
Candyman made me cry Blush it scared me but the story is so sad!

Foxysoxy01 · 24/09/2017 17:57

I saw the original IT at about late 12/13.
It was at a sleepover when the parents didn't actually know we were watching it (or maybe they did but didn't care) it was a bit freaky but surrounded by mates actually made it a bit boring as it wasn't all that scary just a bit of anticipation rather than full on screaming wet your pants.
You know your child but TBH I think she would probably be ok, although doubt very much she would get in at the cinema as they are pretty hot on ID now.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/09/2017 18:08

YANBU. You know your DD, it doesn't sound like she'd enjoy it, and there's a good chance they might not let a group of 13-14yos in. Stupid thing for someone to choose as a birthday treat for this age (I'm assuming her friend isn't going to be 15 or 16)

eyebrowsonfleek · 24/09/2017 18:14

My local cinema weren’t ID’ing the borderline aged kids for IT. I went with 3 kids aged 13/14 (and their parents) and nobody got ID’ed.

eyebrowsonfleek · 24/09/2017 18:15

If she doesn’t like the dark then definitely not a good idea imo.

BeALert · 24/09/2017 18:18

My 14yo would be fine.

My 12yo would have nightmares for years...

MsJuniper · 24/09/2017 18:24

A 12A can be seen by an under 12 as long as they are with an adult. But a 15 certificate means no-one under 15 can see the film full stop. It isn't affected by whether you're with your parents.

PurpleHebe · 24/09/2017 18:31

It wasn't as scary as the original, horror bits seemed to be played for comedy fright but there was some gore. Not nearly as scary as 'The Woman in Black' which was a 12A and terrifying in places -lots of sobbing children in that one!
Odeon were asking for ID from the mostly teenage audience

demirose87 · 24/09/2017 18:34

I'd get it on DVD and watch it at home. Cinemas are quite strict with ages especially if she doesn't look 15. It depends on how old/ young minded she is. Like I'm 29 and I can't watch 18 rated films as they are too much for me..

Carouselfish · 24/09/2017 18:41

No because it's not as good as the original.

No because of the pervy Dad to daughter side of Beverly's situation.

No because why do people think it's a good idea to fill their kids' heads with blood, gore, horror etc? There's so much else to be getting them into. Don't get why it's better to be nonchalant about it.

Plus at 13 they might still silly enough to think it would be fun to live out movie scenes, like daring each other to go into the sewers etc.

peachgreen · 24/09/2017 18:44

I thought it was pretty scary. Some really disturbing imagery including dead zombie children, quite a bit of gore etc. Tbh I was surprised it wasn’t an 18.

ThymeLord · 24/09/2017 18:45

My daughter saw it on friday. She's 14 and a half. She said it was scary but she loved it.

ThymeLord · 24/09/2017 18:47

Posted too soon. I wouldn't have let her go at 13 but only you know how mature your kid is. It's supposedly quite gory in parts.

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 24/09/2017 18:52

Our local cinema asked a group of teens in front of us for ID, I reckon some could pass for 15 others not - none of them had any so out they went looking pretty embarrassed. I think it is unreasonable for you to be expected to let her go as it has that rating, personally though unless sensitive I don't think a 13 year old would be that scared by it - it really isn't scary.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 24/09/2017 18:57

Well at the cinema my dis works at they do ask for id, most of his time is spent turfing underage kids out of films (they pay for say The Minion movie, then sneak into It)

GoldSpot · 24/09/2017 18:59

My son is nearly 12. He saw the trailer for It and now has nightmares over it.

tippz · 24/09/2017 19:15

@sad9999

She won't be let in. In my local cinema (both of them,) if it's an 18 film, then anyone who looks under 21 has to prove their age. If it's a 15, then anyone who looks under 19 has to prove their age.

Does your daughter look 19? Doubt it eh?

It's pretty scary and gruesome too. I would say no. I also agree with @CarouselFish about the weird shit that goes on with the dad and daughter. It's really not for the eyes of a 13 year old.

So, it's a no from me. Grin

diddl · 24/09/2017 19:19

I accidentally watched the trailer.

That was more than enough for me!

chewbacca83 · 24/09/2017 19:24

I saw it last night and it scared the bejeesus out of me! I'm 35. No chance I would let a 13 year old watch it.
