Or is Jimmy Carr just a misogynist arse hole?

VioletCharlotte · 23/09/2017 12:08

This week I went to see Jimmy Carr's live show. A friend of mine had tickets and asked my go along at the last minute as their mate dropped out. Now I've never really had an opinion on Jimmy Carr, he's just someone I've never paid much attention too, so didn't really know what to expect.

Most of the 2 hours were filled with cracks about rape, special needs children, blind people and women. I came away feeling quite sad that this is what's considered comedy. Friend (male) says I've obviously had a sense of humour bypass, but AIBU in thinking actually it's just not funny and Jimmy Carr is actually just a massive idiot?

So disabled people are now 'smaller'?

PickleRickSanchez · 23/09/2017 18:19

I believe that the only people who can legitimately tell jokes about the disabilities are those who have one.

The question is, who's allowed to laugh? Confused

derxa · 23/09/2017 18:24

I could never laugh at a disabled joke unless the disabled person was making the joke at their own expense.

I've looked at Frankie in action on Youtube. He's so enamoured by his own cleverness it's pathetic.

Elendon · 23/09/2017 18:27

If you are horrified by him

I'm not horrified by him in the slightest. He's a creepy little shit who thinks that jokes about disabled children and those who have been raped are funny. Pathetic. Plus he does a great job on tax avoidance.

I mean, what's not to love? Last sentence is irony by the way

Elendon · 23/09/2017 18:30

I'm not sure about making jokes at your own expense. I don't like them.

'I'm off to Northern Ireland tomorrow. Can't wait. County Down.

10, 9, 8, 7,...

I'm Irish, this is a good joke but it's not racist.

Gilead · 23/09/2017 18:36

Jimmy Carr, really intelligent, went to Cambridge.
So did Nick Griffin...

EamonnWright · 23/09/2017 18:37

What do you call an Irish sniper?

Eamonn Wright Shock

RidingWindhorses · 23/09/2017 18:41

Many disabled people are or were big and tall, but it's a metaphor about equality and picking a fair fight. Not children on a Variety bus, or Harvey Price for example. Which is basically a kind of bullying.

vegetariansAreDelicious · 23/09/2017 18:45

Isn't Harvey Price extremely strong; the premise of 'that joke'?

Elendon · 23/09/2017 18:48

But why would you tell an unfunny joke like that @EamonnWright when you know it's going to make people feel uncomfortable. Especially post the Good Friday agreement?

If I told that joke amongst my English/Welsh/Scottish friends they wouldn't laugh - and I would never dream of telling it to them anyway. They would ask if I was okay.

Twinkie1 · 23/09/2017 18:51

Can't stand the utter wanker. If you cut out him laughing at himself it'd decrease his airtime by at least 50%.

Elendon · 23/09/2017 18:53

The premise of the joke about Harvey Price is because he is disabled.

And his mum is fair game.

Would you laugh at a joke about David Cameron's now dead disabled son?

sharksDen · 23/09/2017 18:54

I thought it was funny @EamonnWright

What the fuck does the Good Friday Agreement have to do with it?

For what it's worth, I grew up in Derry and my father was at the march on Bloody Sunday.

It's nothing more than a pun.

solarisIsAClassic · 23/09/2017 18:56

"Would you laugh at a joke about David Cameron's now dead disabled son?"

What's the joke?

EamonnWright · 23/09/2017 18:59

But why would you tell an unfunny joke like that @EamonnWright when you know it's going to make people feel uncomfortable. Especially post the Good Friday agreement?

Because I'm not responsible for other peoples sensibilities. Especially when they are utterly ridiculous.

Elendon · 23/09/2017 19:00

My cousin was at the march too!

It's a joke that was used by some racists in the British Army, it was meant to be sarcastic.

Gottagetmoving · 23/09/2017 19:02

Yeah right- everyone on here criticising him is only doing so because they secretly think it is acceptable to mock people with disabilities. What a fatuous argument

Not talking about people criticising...i was talking about outrage

EamonnWright · 23/09/2017 19:02

sharksDen

I live in Ardoyne and unfortunately loads I know are dead. Guarantee the person on about the GFA isn't even Irish which gets my goat. Hate people being offended on my behalf.

Derry ABU Wink

RidingWindhorses · 23/09/2017 19:03

I don't know that he is particularly strong, that was just Boyle's idea, he's not well co-ordinated. And he's certainly not strong mentally. The idea of picking on someone who wouldn't even be aware of your contemptuous comments let alone be able to respond repulses me.

It's just cowardly and dishonourable.

RidingWindhorses · 23/09/2017 19:03

^that was to vegetarians

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 23/09/2017 19:03

I find him funny

I don't want comedy to be censored becuase some people are offended

I find FB and other similar comedians funny

EamonnWright · 23/09/2017 19:07

Here's a belter.

www.google.co.uk/amp/www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/09/12/hate-crime-trial-youtube-user-video-dog-taught-do-nazi-salute/amp/

I honestly don't care what anyone says, this is funny. A Pug dog doing Nazi stuff is just fucking funny. Honestly what is not funny about this? He done it because he knows Nazis are the worst, that's why he got the wee dog to act like one.

Hate Crime?

Elendon · 23/09/2017 19:07

So Aiming right would you then say that a joke against a person of colour is okay? After all it might well be funny and laugh out loud if you are less endowed in the intelligence stakes, but you can always argue they are being utterly ridiculous when just ridiculous would suffice

Elendon · 23/09/2017 19:08

I have duel citizenship. Aimingright.

You are offensive as well as a total knob.

Elendon · 23/09/2017 19:10

Aimingright has now evoked Godwin's Law!

Preens!
