Or is Jimmy Carr just a misogynist arse hole?

This week I went to see Jimmy Carr's live show. A friend of mine had tickets and asked my go along at the last minute as their mate dropped out. Now I've never really had an opinion on Jimmy Carr, he's just someone I've never paid much attention too, so didn't really know what to expect.

Most of the 2 hours were filled with cracks about rape, special needs children, blind people and women. I came away feeling quite sad that this is what's considered comedy. Friend (male) says I've obviously had a sense of humour bypass, but AIBU in thinking actually it's just not funny and Jimmy Carr is actually just a massive idiot?

hazey I posted that so people could see another example of how horrible his comedy is. I thought that would have been clear from my previous posts.

araiwa · 23/09/2017 14:14

Bob monkhouse told one of the greatest jokes ever- well theyre not laughing now

TipTopTipTopClop · 23/09/2017 14:15

He definitely steers clear of racist jokes but you can bet that those who love him and think that he's 'fucking hilarious' will also like a racist joke as well, between friends that is.

That old chestnut.

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 23/09/2017 14:15

It’s satire, mostly. It’s meant to make you feel uncomfortable when you laugh at it. He’s really not sexist, disablist or a rape apologist, his act is supposed to be subversive.

But it’s not subversive is it? It’s entirely conventional.

Where are the white man jokes?

derxa · 23/09/2017 14:15

Jimmy Carr and Frankie Boyle are nasty ugly men on the inside and on the outside.

Elendon · 23/09/2017 14:16

Now this is funny, and has a great twist. From Edinburgh fringe.

If you’re being chased by a pack of taxidermists, do not play dead. Olaf Falafel.

VanillaSugar · 23/09/2017 14:17

YANBU I don't like him at all.

Nancy91 · 23/09/2017 14:20

I think he is really funny, his jokes have shock value which makes me laugh. Different people laugh at different things. I can see why some people are offended by him, but I'm not.

Elendon · 23/09/2017 14:20

Where are the white man jokes?

THIS!

coddiwomple · 23/09/2017 14:22

Either you find him funny, or you don't. No one is going to convince the opposite side of the contrary!

He does make me laugh.

TipTopTipTopClop · 23/09/2017 14:23

Where are the white man jokes?

There are a fair few black men comedians who fly pretty close to the sun with their white people humour. It's hard to make good comedy if you don't.

Elendon · 23/09/2017 14:23

It all starts innocently, mixing chocolate and Rice Krispies. But before you know it, you’re adding raisins and marshmallows – it’s a rocky road.

Another one from Olaf.

TipTopTipTopClop · 23/09/2017 14:25

Elendon, that's not funny, but I think you must know that.

Autumnskiesarelovely · 23/09/2017 14:30

Oh my I got tickets for me and my father, never squirmed so much in my life! He goes too far. Can't look at his shows in the same way now.

Elendon · 23/09/2017 14:31

Milton Jones is my favourite.

"So no one turned up to the first meeting of my Sarcasm Club - despite loads of people saying how much they were looking forward to it." Milton Jones

mrsRosaPimento · 23/09/2017 14:32

If you're offended by Jimmy Carr do not go and see Frankie Boyle. He's funny but some jokes are gasp worthy.

ocelot41 · 23/09/2017 14:32

Love Jo Brand. You could go for a pint with that woman, nay bother. I think Carr would be wearing his in about 5 mins..

Onthecouchagain · 23/09/2017 14:35

Doug Stanhope, now he's funny.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 23/09/2017 14:35

Actually having now read the hilarious examples of Jimmy Carr's humour and having googled Bob Monkhouse I think the comparison does Monkhouse a disservice.

Tbh if someone tells me they think Carr is hilarious they are probably some one I don't want to know.

hazeyjane · 23/09/2017 14:37

purple - I'm sorry, I really didn't think you thought that joke funny! I just wanted to refer to the right joke. I probably wasn't clear enough.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 23/09/2017 14:38

If you’re being chased by a pack of taxidermists, do not play dead. Olaf Falafel

Genuinely funny.

I loathe Boyle too.

PurpleDaisies · 23/09/2017 14:40

That's ok hazey- I wasn't sure and just wanted to make sure nobody thought I liked jokes like that. I work with wonderful children with disabilities who are in no way just the same as each other. It's totally dehumanising to suggest that they are.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 23/09/2017 14:41

I compare tossers like Carr and Boyle to someone like John Finnemore.

I don't think I've ever heard Finnemore tell a sexist, racist or disabilist joke, I dont think he even swears that much but he is head and shoulders above them when it comes to wit and originality.

Iris65 · 23/09/2017 14:42

Oh it's postmodern hate speech.......so we can pat ourselves on the back and tell ourselves we are better than the racist misogynist comedians of the past like Jim Davidson and Bernard Manning. Aren't we clever.
