This is on the horror channel right now and bf and I have seen it before (separately). I have been laughing at the funny parts yet he has remained stoic (even though I know he's scared of horror films lol). It is a horror film but clearly it is meant to be a comedy as well, am I wrong? He thinks I'm being sick laughing at this film but it is quite clearly meant to be funny, like a comedy-horror, imo. He thinks it's a horror and not funny in the slightest. Out of those who have seen it, who is BU?

I saw it a few months ago and definitely laughed at some parts. I think it was meant to be funny in an over the top, ludicrous sort of way

JamieLannisterToMyBedchamber · 20/09/2017 21:58

"Horror Comedy"

CosyFires · 20/09/2017 21:58

I understand what you mean, but no, I don't believe it was meant to be intentional. I watched it when it first came out and it really freaked me out! I've seen hundreds of horrors since and have grown some form of a spine Wink

MissionItsPossible · 20/09/2017 22:24

CosyFires
I understand it being scary but you don't think it was meant to be intentionally funny!? The scene with the false teeth flying out her mouth and her sucking on the victims chin had me in stitches! Grin

Yeah maybe you're right... The anvil to the head scene with the eyes popping out has changed made me reconsider!

Obviouspretzel · 20/09/2017 22:36

Isn't it Sam Raimi ? Of course it is meant to be funny as well as scary, same as Evil Dead.

opheliacat · 20/09/2017 22:37

Oh, I hated it.

Anything about hell scares the shit out of me. And a cat is killed.

MorbidBibliomancy · 20/09/2017 22:37

I saw this with a friend in the cinema when it first came out. We had no idea it was meant to be a comedy and somehow that made it even funnier for us.

But yes, it's definitely a comedy. Raimi himself said that it relied on a lot of dark humour.

MissionItsPossible · 20/09/2017 22:48

Thank you! Majority seems to agree. He is sulking and still saying I'm wrong and so are you that agreed Grin

shittyshitybangbang · 20/09/2017 22:52

I've seen it when it came out and don't remember it being funny.

MrsPinkCock · 20/09/2017 22:54

It's meant to be a comedy?!

I thought it was entirely serious and actually quite liked it Grin

CosyFires · 20/09/2017 22:54

Tell him not to watch the new 'IT' then because there's some funny scenes in that too!

ispentitwithyou1 · 20/09/2017 22:55

100 percent a very dark comedy.

ispentitwithyou1 · 20/09/2017 22:56

I remember quite a lot of comedy in the seance part as well?

Racingraccoons · 20/09/2017 22:57

It is definitely comedy horror! I think it's a bad film though and put it in the same category as Black Sheep!

BonnieBlueButler · 20/09/2017 23:00

Another vote for comedy horror. I hope it was intentional. Am I misremembering an evil dancing goat? That was funny!

My DH hates when I watch this for that very reason! Some of my personal highlights include:

  • the fight in the car with the gypsy. The whole scene from start to finish was pure comedy value
  • the talking goat
  • when she went to the woman's wake and ended up with corpse juice all over her face
  • the flies coming out of her cake at her bf's parents house and the subsequent meltdown she had

@MissionItsPossible

From wiki...

Drag Me to Hell is a 2009 American supernatural horror comedy film co-written and directed by Sam Raimi.

I would not have said it was a comedy, and parts of it scared the shit out me, but I think I could go along with it being a borderline black comedy - as someone said, like the Evil Dead. V. scary but with a few slightly daft moments. When the goat said 'YOU BLACK HEARTED WHORE!' in Drag me to hell, I almost pissed myself laughing! Grin

Neither you or your boyfriend are being unreasonable, as what the movie is classed as, is subjective, but it is officially classed as a black comedy/horror.

Choccywoccyhooha · 21/09/2017 01:01

It is still a source of amusement for me, 8 years after seeing it, as it terrified my husband and he still gets scared if I say "You shamed me, " in an old lady voice in the dark!

DeadGood · 21/09/2017 01:05

Um, yes, it is a comedy. I'm a bit embarrassed for all the people on here who didn't realise! It is hammy as hell.

StarfishSeahorse · 21/09/2017 01:20

It's awful but fucking hilarious, the chin sucking thing has us in scene had us in stitches!😂

EleanorAbernathy · 21/09/2017 02:26

Definitely a horror comedy - it's the sort of film I'd love if I didn't already have a phobia of buttons and a love of cats! Grin

DH loves it but I can't watch the fucker!

Areyoufree · 21/09/2017 06:28

Just have to clear something up. Evil Dead was not a horror comedy. Evil Dead 2 and 3 were. As is Drag me to hell.

As you were.
