This is on the horror channel right now and bf and I have seen it before (separately). I have been laughing at the funny parts yet he has remained stoic (even though I know he's scared of horror films lol). It is a horror film but clearly it is meant to be a comedy as well, am I wrong? He thinks I'm being sick laughing at this film but it is quite clearly meant to be funny, like a comedy-horror, imo. He thinks it's a horror and not funny in the slightest. Out of those who have seen it, who is BU?

Definetly horror comedy, I love that film but it's a tragedy at the end what happens to that beautiful coat!!

Gah81 · 21/09/2017 07:32

As far as I recall, it was supposed to be a homage to B movies. So horrific but in a funny and slightly OTT/kitsch way - I mean, how can you not laugh at the dinner scene?!

Everyone in the cinema at the time was chuckling. I think your bf is wrong.

Capricorn76 · 21/09/2017 07:38

I'm terrified of horror movies so can't explain why I've ageed to go and watch IT this weekend, however, DMTH was funny. The gypsy fight scene was hilarious.

He's left for work in a mood after I read through this (I think because he found it scary and I was just laughing through it)! 😂

Is he always so moody when his attempts to tell you you're wrong backfire?

(he sounds a bit of a twat, why hasn't he just laughed this off by now? My DH is the same. I don't even get into discussions with him anymore, I just say "Isn't it nice that we have different views?" even if he's arguing something fucking stupid. If he then goes and googles it to check who's right, I know when it's me as he goes silent. He never says "Wow, you're right, I did not know that and it's very interesting isn't it?" Such dickish behaviour.)

Definitely it's supposed to have a touch of humor about it, Sam Raimi would be somewhat known for that style. Get Out is a recent horror with intentionally humorous bits too even though the subject matter is deeply disturbing.

(I thought this was going to be about the 'eating disorder' aspect.)

KimmySchmidt1 · 21/09/2017 10:32

the premise is intentionally funny - your sympathy for her is hampered by the fact she is a loan clerk at a bank foreclosing on an old gypsy woman - it is meant to be a bit tongue in cheek in places I think, and also scary.

TathitiPete

I read a theory about the eating disorder aspect of the film. I don't buy into it myself but I can see its plausibility.

I saw it at the cinema. It's hilarious. My friend and I both laughed a lot.

Pastacube · 21/09/2017 10:39

it's such a crap film

OstentatiousWanking · 21/09/2017 10:40

"I don't want you fucking cat." Properly cracked me up tbh.

OstentatiousWanking · 21/09/2017 10:45

Your not you.

Queenofthestress · 21/09/2017 10:47

I wet myself laughing at it (not literally) its definitely funny!

OrangeFluff · 21/09/2017 10:51

Yep another who agrees it was meant to be funny. It was just so ridiculously over the top! Why does she end up with so many disgusting things going into her mouth?! Bleugh!

Ohyesiam · 21/09/2017 14:50

He could give up horror movies if they scare him, as it makes him defensive.

alfagirl73 · 21/09/2017 18:00

Definitely a dark horror comedy. It's a really good film actually. I normally just like proper scary/horror - but it struck the right balance with the dark comedy for me.

Spangles1963 · 21/09/2017 19:24

I'd call it a horror comedy. I had the same issue with 'An American Werewolf in London' film years ago. I watched it and laughed at many parts of it but my friend remained po-faced throughout, and couldn't understand why I thought it was funny!
