Went to an imax movie yesterday with dh and ds.

Before the film started a guy in the row in front was watching porn on his phone. His friend next to him said 'dude there's a little kid behind us'. The guy watching it said "I don't give a fuck, not my kid." HmmConfusedShockAngry

Then during the film there was a tiny baby screaming its lungs out pretty much consistently. Brought by (who I assume) was Grandma and was totally oblivious. Poor thing, film was way too loud for a baby and it was probably terrified!

Then no less than THREE people (all right in front of me) were holding their phones up high in the air and taking photos/recording! So massively in my view and hugely distracting.

Oh, and don't forget the couple that had a pretty loud argument.

Wth? I haven't been to the cinema in years. Is this what it's bloody like now or did I just get unlucky?!

just wow.

Shock

i don't normally go to the cinema unless its an art film, and then only rarely.

sounds an awful experience. sometimes I wonder...

sooperdooper · 20/09/2017 20:40

I'd have gone & complained to the staff, they're normally really good at telling people to pack it in in cinemas

Katedotness1963 · 20/09/2017 20:41

I stopped going years ago. If people want to act like they're in their own sitting room, that's where they should stay, I want to go, sit quietly and concentrate on the film, damn near impossible these days.

blahdyblahblah · 20/09/2017 20:42

I'm in no bloody rush to go again that's for sure. I was so distracted and annoyed by everything I don't think I saw more than a couple of minutes of the film!

blahdyblahblah · 20/09/2017 20:43

I'm in a wheelchair so would have had to have got dh to open the back doors which everyone would have noticed and got in the lift to the other floor and back up again.

Would have been a bit conspicuous. Grin

And dh wouldn't complain because he's a wuss like that.

Went to the cinema once and had a couple whispering through the WHOLE film on one side, and a woman using the torch on her phone to light up a folder that she was writing in on the other! WTF!?

Gartenzwerg · 20/09/2017 20:45

I don’t go to cinemas any more for precisely the reasons you outline. Also the prices are ludicrous. I’d rather wait 6-12 months and watch the film on Sky in my own home

blahdyblahblah · 20/09/2017 20:49

We went as we're stuck away from home and ds was bored stupid. It was an imax film about sharks so more for him than us. If it had been a film I really wanted to see I'd have made the trip downstairs to complain!!

Twopeapods · 20/09/2017 20:50

I probably would have complained to the staff.
We very rarely go to the cinema nowadays as we have sky cinema and prefer to watch things at home.

Crumbs1 · 20/09/2017 20:51

Horrid when cinemas are like that. We went to an Everyman at the weekend to watch Victoria and Abdul. It was a lovely experience. Comfortable sofas and seats. Mugs of tea or cocktails brought to you. Pleasant other customers and decent loos. I'd find it hard to go back to large complex.

blahdyblahblah · 20/09/2017 20:58

Ooooh that sounds luffly.

Adding to my disgust at cinemas here (States) - most don't sell alcohol.

Cinemas are full of arses. I always get the badly behaved child kicking the back of my seat, and the mother who reacts with fury when asked to intervene.

Ttbb · 20/09/2017 21:02

That's really terrible. Where did you go to experience this level of douchery?

SweetChickadee · 20/09/2017 21:03

Don't get that kind of nonsense up here in Canada Grin

can't get booze either tho

Poshjock · 20/09/2017 21:06

My brother and I had this conversation at the weekend! I now only go to the cinema during the working day when its practically empty (and much cheaper) or use the local theatre instead of the multiplex its much cheaper and a bit better behaviour.

ijustwannadance · 20/09/2017 21:06

Best time to go is usually is lunchtime in a school day.
Virtually empty.

EvilDoctorBallerinaDuckKeidis · 20/09/2017 21:10

The last time I went was to an MN screening, we can't afford it otherwise. I now have a load of other reasons not to go! Shock

Maelstrop · 20/09/2017 21:10

I found it very odd that people brought tiny babies to the cinema in America.

I refuse to go to 'normal' cinemas and only go to a local independent one where they serve food and booze. Marvellous!

glenthebattleostrich · 20/09/2017 21:11

We have a small local cinema near us that is lovely and has a staff member in the room when watching the film. They stop any bad behaviour.

I now won't go to the chains unless it's a kids cheap showing. The seat kicking, the pissing around on phones ( the world generally won't end if you are off Facebook for an hour and a half), the selfie twats, the talkers (it's a cinema not a fucking bar, I want to what the film not about the bloke you shagged at the weekend).

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 20/09/2017 21:16

Isn't it illegal to watch porn in the open? Especially of a child is sat right there!

I'd have told the staff, I'm sure they would have been aware he was breaking the law.

shoeaddict83 · 20/09/2017 21:23

I had this conversation with my friend yesterday when we went to see IT. Row of kids in front -none of which looked 15 so not sure how they got in, all taking selfies, shrieking, chucking popcorn, constantly swapping seats. People behind us talking, fucking drive me mad.

I've both been out to complain before and turned around and said something myself to the twats ruining the film. It usually shocks them into stopping coz no-one ever expects anyone to actually say anything to them!!
I just don't know why people can't be respectful of others.

niccyb · 20/09/2017 21:28

OMG. Never known anything like it. Could u not get security to chuck the feckers out?

Hassled · 20/09/2017 21:31

I get so stressy and livid every time I go to the cinema that I rarely bother anymore - which is a shame, because when it's good, it's really good. It's just not the same watching a film on the TV at home.

Last time was La La Land when during the spectacular opening dance number a couple started asking me where Row E was. It went on and on - "so if this is G, where would E be, then - up or down?" while I pointed clearly at row E and eventually hissed "I'm trying to watch the film" and they got huffy. It was insane.

JaneEyre70 · 20/09/2017 21:33

I've been to one too many films now that have been ruined by other cinema goers. If it's something I really want to see, we go to the Screening Rooms that is beyond lovely but at £20 a ticket, only worth it for a good film. Otherwise we wait until it comes out on Sky. Far more civilsed.

e1y1 · 20/09/2017 21:33

I don’t go to the cinema. I’d much rather buy the DVD rent off Sky/Prime etc.

Can pause when I want , get a drink that doesn’t cost the earth, etc.

However, I’m assuming your experience is not far off what it is like now.

In my hometown, the cinema was showing the most recent big boxing fight (not sure who it was). End of the fight, cue 20 teenage lads scrapping in the room. Whilst not the most high end place, it is nowhere near “rough” (infact I think it was rated one of the best towns for families to live).

So yeah, I just think people don’t give much of fig anymore.
