Mine has to be pacific instead of specific

OP posts:
CurlyhairedAssassin · 21/09/2017 19:18

Sorry, I meant "you don't like SAYS instead of SEZ"?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 21/09/2017 19:21

My most hated one is click instead of clique.

It's a French word. Pronounced cleek. And it was always pronounced correctly by nearly everyone in the early 80s and then from nowhere there came this word "clicky", as in "I don't like those girls, they're too clicky."

treaclesoda · 21/09/2017 19:22

I understand what Carousel is saying about the G. It's not pronouncing the G, it's pronouncing a hard G, like 'garden' but at the end of the word.

treaclesoda · 21/09/2017 19:24

And I agree with Carousel about sez and say-s as well Grin

BurnThisDiscoDown · 21/09/2017 19:25

Proshecco (my boss)

Nucular - I heard this on radio 4 a little while ago, I was horrified.

I'm guilty of the w for l though (app - w, Skyfa-w) etc, its just my regional accent.

whoputthecatout · 21/09/2017 19:27

Wa'er. bu'er etc. There should be a society for the preservation of the letter T.

Catwithglasses · 21/09/2017 19:33

I don't understand Carousel's dislike of the letter 't' either. I hate that my OH fails to pronounce them in most words when reading bedtime stories now that my DD is talking, but also horrifically aware of how lazy my own speech has got.

Random, my DM also says 'pitza' and I have no idea why.

HotelEuphoria · 21/09/2017 19:39

Off of

"He got it off of his brother"

Noooooooooo, he got it FROM his brother.

People that pronou e jalapeños as JAL-apeeno rather than HAL-apeeno.

It doesn't exist it is from

TheScottishPlay · 21/09/2017 19:41

Would of instead of would have.

DobbyIsAFreeElf · 21/09/2017 19:53

Chwenty instead of twenty
Chwice instead of twice

SabineUndine · 21/09/2017 19:55

Chris Tarrant saying 'all-mond' for 'almond'.

thelonelyhamster · 21/09/2017 19:58

Read through the whole thread just to check I'm not the only one who can't stand 'sanGwich'.

wictional · 21/09/2017 20:22

A relative pronounces “supposed” as “asposed”. As in, “it’s asposed to be _”. I love her dearly but my god I want to strangle her when she says that!

fluffiphlox · 21/09/2017 20:27

CurlyhairedAssassin You're quite right. I didn't pick that up at all. My spelling has gone to buggery.

Criceta · 21/09/2017 20:29

Cleansiness instead of cleanliness 😐

echt · 21/09/2017 20:40

Preshume for presume, ashume for assume. It is rampant in Australia.

Karen85 · 21/09/2017 20:52

How some americans pronouce Iraq and Iran irritates me I don't know why

OVienna · 21/09/2017 21:38

I can't even read through the thread as after the first two posts my blood pressure was already raised to unhealthy levels. Pacific fir specific might win though.

Pineau · 21/09/2017 22:03

Not pronunciation but grammar
I is hungry or I is cold

Littlejayx · 21/09/2017 22:03

Jalapeño. JAL instead oh HAL

etzy · 21/09/2017 22:06

Neeeechh instead of niche!

TheHuffAndPuffALot · 21/09/2017 22:11

Pinktails instead of pigtails.

Strokethefurrywall · 21/09/2017 22:39

I couldn't get past "hospikkle" and "likkle" - fuckers who utter such bastardization of regular English words (often in a baby voice) need to be shot at dawn.

Ditto for any person uttering the word "hollibobs"

MumBod · 21/09/2017 23:00

A relative of mine -

Etha-real for ethereal.
Super-FLEW-uss for superfluous.
Feasty for feisty.

She reads a lot.

MumBod · 21/09/2017 23:03

A relative of DP's mentioned a website called 'Linker Din'.

Took us a while to cotton on that she was talking about LinkedIn.
