Mine has to be pacific instead of specific

OP posts:
blahdyblahblah · 20/09/2017 23:37

Dh says nitch. He's American. I snarled at him the first few times he did it and now he thinks it's funny. Envy

BoysofMelody · 20/09/2017 23:40

Super fucking Nanny

Asseptable for Acceptable

A friend of mine pronounces Bolero, boller-ow. I'm being picky now.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 20/09/2017 23:41

My son says nucular. I'll raise my eyebrows and he'll chant nuclear under his breath for a few seconds, but it has never nor do I think it will ever stick.

AimeeNoOneTheSamee · 20/09/2017 23:44

ODDviously instead of obviously 🙄

blahdyblahblah · 20/09/2017 23:44

Pacific for specific. That Facebook pearl lady says it and it makes me want to kill her but I couldn't stop watching for a month. Dh finally cut me off and said it was awful and weird.

grecian100 · 20/09/2017 23:45

I nearly died a death when ds' English teacher said that he needed to be more pacific when answering questions Shock

I follow a vlogger who bless him isn't the brightest and makes lots of bizarre mispronunciations.

Monterey (cheese) = Montgomery cheese
Schloer= Shalola
Chorizo= koritsiyo

Chester draws really bothers me.

TheEdgeOfGlory266 · 20/09/2017 23:45

Where I live nearly everyone says brought when they mean bought. It crushes my soul every single time. Even my 2 year old knows the difference.

AimeeNoOneTheSamee · 20/09/2017 23:46

BoysofMelody

My mum calls it a boller-row! Gah! Also hate GILLET (like bullet) instead of gilet(ay).

ConkerGame · 20/09/2017 23:48

Yes brought vs bought is very annoying!

Also my ex boss used to say thee-a-ter instead of theatre and Ay-see-ya instead of Asia, used to drive me mad!

grecian100 · 20/09/2017 23:51

My DM keeps showing me all of her Cath Kitson handbags. I must have said Kidston a hundred million times but it falls on deaf ears.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 20/09/2017 23:55

My manager says Pacific rather than specific and it really grates on me. She's intelligent, well spoken etc but just can't say specific.

Garridge instead of garage really irritates me as well

SinisterBumFacedCat · 21/09/2017 00:01

My ILs pronounce banoffee pie "ban - uu - fey" no matter how many times I explain it's just the words banana and toffee stuck together, they just love to make it sound posh.

RapunzelsRealMom · 21/09/2017 00:14

It made me laugh when someone upthread complained about people saying 'drawers' when it should be 'draws'. The word is drawers! Draws drives me mad.

I was corrected in front of numerous people for my pronunciation of the dessert Mille feuille. I correctly said Meel foy. She said, you mean Meel fwee. There were so many people there and I didn't want to make a scene, so said nothing.

MIL says digical instead of digital and no one ever corrects her.

And people who say Krispy Krem when it should be Krispy Kreem

Beachcomber123 · 21/09/2017 00:29

Drawing pronounced as drawRING!!!

Drives me crazy!!!

Grilledaubergines · 21/09/2017 00:39

Haitch instead of Aitch

Pacific instead of specific

Com-promise instead of compromise (yeah, you MIL)

Somewhereoverthere29 · 21/09/2017 00:41

My DM says Carn't Hmm

minimonkey11 · 21/09/2017 00:45

2tired2bewitty - i think we had the same HE teacher!!

Longdistance · 21/09/2017 00:47

Mataland 🙄 Gets on my nerves when people say it. Like it's some sort of theme park with magical rides, when in fact it's a sweaty shop with huge queues, that they haven't worked out how to shorten in all the time it's been there.

potatoscowls · 21/09/2017 01:33

Expresso

potatoscowls · 21/09/2017 01:35

Pie-yeller (paella)
Chorr-itzoe (chorizo)

Saracen · 21/09/2017 02:19

I cringe when people with foreign names (names which are short and easy for native English-speakers to pronounce) have their names CONSISTENTLY mispronounced by English people who have known them well for years, despite having been corrected many times.

It just seems like they can't be bothered with anyone whose name isn't Jack or Emily.

nellytheelephant21 · 21/09/2017 04:59

It's;
restaurateur not restauranteur;
Aitch not haitch;
Specific not pacific;
Pronunciation not pronunciation.

Not pronunciation but misuse of;

nellytheelephant21 · 21/09/2017 05:01

Oops posted too soon. Misuse of accept/except, affect/effect, bought/brought, its/ it's, they're/ their/there

nellytheelephant21 · 21/09/2017 05:02

Auto correct intervened! It's pronunciation not pronounciation

RainbowPastel · 21/09/2017 06:59

Somewhere how else would you pronounce can't than carnt?
