Is this a thing?! And if so WHY WHY WHY
Just got some chips and curry from a chip shop while down the beach and there's SO many lumps of what looks like raisins?! If they're not raisins what are they?

Think I'll be sticking with Chinese or Indian curry sauce from now on Envy

Raisins, along with all their bastarding relatives (sultanas/dates/prunes etc etc etc) are the devils own work and shouldn't be allowed near ANYTHING I AM EATING EVER

People sneak them into things where they just shouldn't be, such as curry, but also delicious things like chocolate brownies

Used to love a bag of Revels me-and then they went and added raisins in there. Can't take that chance, oh no.

iklboo · 20/09/2017 17:30

Dinaclass curry mix has sultanas in it. It's usually the one lot of chippys use.

Ellendegeneres · 20/09/2017 17:35

As above, sultanas yes, raisins no.

I have a craving for a curry with sultanas now. It's the only reason I bloody buy sultanas, nobody in this house eats them aside from me

Apricots in Coronation chicken - then and now.

Raisins are the work of the devil. Envy

Fekko · 20/09/2017 17:38

But grapes are so lovely!

IrenetheQuaint · 20/09/2017 17:42

YANBU. I have never encountered a raisin in a curry, but sultanas in curry are disgusting. All brown and squishy. Just WRONG.

I've had those wizened wrinkly warts in curries but then I had curry in the 1970s!

StepAwayFromCake · 20/09/2017 17:46

I love fruit in a curry. (Except for bananas. Banana should be raw. Cooked bananas are bleurgh.) But not in a sauce. Sauce should be smooth, not lumpy.

Fekko · 20/09/2017 17:47

I had a banana curry once. Just the once...

Andrewofgg · 20/09/2017 17:54

Anyone who pollutes curry with chips does not deserve curry.

And many curry dishes have raisins and other fruit in them.

So YAB double U Smile

Crabbo · 20/09/2017 17:59

You get all sorts of fruit in curries - banana, lychee, plantain, coconut... bit unusual to have it in a chip shop curry sauce but not unheard of surely.

scoopmuckanddizzyrollytoo · 20/09/2017 18:05

My dad always put sultanas in tbe curry and it was an indian chef in the navy that taught him how to make it, one of them might have made it up though Grin

SecretSquirrils · 20/09/2017 18:11

Whenever I make curry DH always says wouldn't it be nice with a few raisins in?

NachoAddict · 20/09/2017 18:13

Rocky road is always a risky treat because they sometimes sneak crusty dried up old fruit in there.

pobblewashere · 20/09/2017 18:24

Way back in the 70s you could buy dried curry mix (from the butchers!)
I think it was called Dinaclass curry mix. Just add water, stir and heat. It had raisins /sultanas in it. Was similar to todays chip shop curry sauce in colour. I loved, didn't know any better. I also liked Vesta curry and rice!
Getting nostalgic now. mmmmmm

themueslicamel · 20/09/2017 18:25

YANBU

This is filth of the highest order!!!!

Lunde · 20/09/2017 18:26

Ah yes -memories of retro 70s curry served with sultanas, banana and desiccated coconut!

Whiterabbitears · 20/09/2017 18:27

I absolutely despise raisins in curry, it is hideousness of the highest order. In fact just thinking about it is making me feel sick, yeargghhh!!

Someoneasdumbasthis · 20/09/2017 18:29

Laughing at the objection to fruit in curries but happy to have curry sauce with chips!

MyFishGeorge · 20/09/2017 18:31

Dried fruit in curry is WRONG!

Theresnonamesleft · 20/09/2017 18:31

Ooh not had a curry with Sultanas in it for years. Really hot one, and the sweetness of the fruit was refreshing.

NachoAddict · 20/09/2017 18:31

But curry sauce is for chips. Chip and curry barm is food of the gods.
