To have changed my Amazon password?

We have Prime. None of my siblings or my parents do. I mean, why would they when they can just log into mine?

Over the years they've all had my password so they can order something for next day delivery. I didn't mind at the time but now it's just become a regular thing, and where they used to send me a courtesy text to let me know they no longer bother.

So all my suggestions are ballsed up (no, I don't want climbing rope, bike repair stuff or Jeremy Clarkson's latest book). And it often defaults to one of their addresses so I have to be careful when I order (which is frequently, hence having Prime).

They also use it for the telly stuff, which again cocks up my suggestions.

The kicker is that I've said why don't we all pay a tenner each for it and they've all said no.

So I've changed the password. And it the last week have had irate texts from my two youngest siblings. One even phoned my DH at work because I said he knew it and I didn't yes that was a cop out.

Aibu? They say as I'm paying for it anyway they may as well use it. Am I just being selfish, really? It's not actually that big of a deal but it annoys me.

No yanbu - especially since they refused to pay a share!!

chickenowner · 20/09/2017 12:59

YANBU at all!

Ploppie4 · 20/09/2017 12:59

Tell them it's their turn to pay for it and you can use theirs

Whambarsarentasfizzyastheywere · 20/09/2017 13:00

They started treating it as a right instead of a favour you were doing them so YANBU.

Glumglowworm · 20/09/2017 13:00

Of course yanbu

You gave them opportunity to pay a portion of the cost which they didn't want to do. Why should they get it for free at your expense?

jay55 · 20/09/2017 13:01

Yanbu. They took the piss.

Ellendegeneres · 20/09/2017 13:01

Tight bastards! They're taking advantage now they're not even asking permission. I'd tell them I've cancelled it. Let them get their own.

SisterhoodisPowerful · 20/09/2017 13:01

You offered a compromise and they refused. Don't share the new password. In fact, I'd get a different email for prime so they don't try to reset the password using the email address.

KinkyFruits · 20/09/2017 13:01

My family does the same, for amazon and Netflix. I always think next year we should split it, or alternate years, but we never do. But the thing is, brother doesn't have much money so I hate to ask. My parents do but they are generous to us in other ways. If I pushed it they would split it with me but I would feel a bit mean under the circumstances. But if I felt like I was being taken advantage of, like you do, I would definitely stop. The addresses and recommendations are a bit annoying but minor. It's the principle. So basically YANBU if your family are shitty about it.

SprinklesandIcecream · 20/09/2017 13:04

YANBU, they should have their own account technically. However, if they're willing to contribute to the cost, you can always add a few households to your account. That basically means linking accounts to your prime but they can use it through their own account saving the cross over.

FakePlasticTeaLeaves · 20/09/2017 13:05

YANBU.

You are paying for it and you get personalised recommendations based on how you use the platform. They are using it to, they have messed up your recommendations system, so you no longer have that functionality - it pointless for you.

If they all want to use it, they can pay and the offset is that your recommendations get all screwed up, so they should understand they are paying as the account has 'changed' from a personalised one, into a screwed up, weird one.

Allthebestnamesareused · 20/09/2017 13:18

Does that mean that their purchase also gets charged to your credit card?

Either way I'd be saying no unless they want to contribute.

CredulousThickos · 20/09/2017 13:20

They've all got their own addresses and payment details set up. But it means that sometimes the default address and payment is one of theirs and I have to scroll through a load to find mine. It's irritating.

Using Amazon itself is free isn't it? It's just Prime that costs extra so they can set up their own Amazon purchasing accounts.

PickAChew · 20/09/2017 13:40

They're taking the piss. They can set up their own accounts and either pay for postage or prime or wait a bit longer for things to arrive.

LurkingHusband · 20/09/2017 13:43

I'd be curious what Amazons T&Cs say about it ?

I know they allow household accounts (MrsLH and I have one) where Prime is shared between two people. But any more ?????

slbhill42 · 20/09/2017 13:43

is it within the terms to use someone else's prime account? Sounds dodgy to share in the first place, I would think you risk getting your account closed for abuse of service.

Yanbu

ShakeShakeTheMuffin · 20/09/2017 13:51

My DH gets free deliveries because I have a prime account at same address. If they're at different addresses then they are definitely taking the piss. Either way YANBU to change your password. I wouldn't want anyone else using my Amazon account. If one of them started returning lots of stuff your account could be suspended.

OverOn · 20/09/2017 13:59

Just use a cop out way if you cant face the aggro. Say that Amazon has emailed you to say it looks like you're not using the account under its terms as you have miltiple addresses and payments (I'm sure you can find something in their terms and conditions about it being linked to one household or some such). So you're sorry but you can't let them use Prime as can't risk Amazon refusing service.

knowwhereyourheadis · 20/09/2017 14:02

Just tell them you cancelled Prime as you couldn't afford it.

5rivers7hills · 20/09/2017 14:07

The kicker is that I've said why don't we all pay a tenner each for it and they've all said no

YANBU

SnowiestMountain · 20/09/2017 14:12

People are so cheeky with Prime! I too have Prime (and I love it) the amount of times I get texts 'Snowiest, would you mind just ordering...' so bloody annoying because then I have to pay for whatever it is, yes they transfer the money immediately but it's still a bloody faff, GET YOUR OWN PRIME!!!!

I hear ya OP!

Trills · 20/09/2017 14:25

It's technically not allowed, but I don't think you or they care about that.

If they want to share the benefits they can share the cost too.

LurkingHusband · 20/09/2017 14:28

Amazon might Hmm
