AIBU to think driving a big car is easier than a little car?

I've yet to pass my test (I know, I know) but hope to in the next month or so.

We currently have a fiat 500 but as DC2 arrived this year it's not that practical, although I love it & feel comfortable driving it.

DH & I are Londoners & live 12 mins from the tube/high street & 5 mins from nursery/school so we don't actually drive that much. DH wants to get a big car & sell the fiat. AIBU to think I will struggle to drive a big car? It will be automatic but probably 5 yrs old so not self driving!

Does the xc60 fit 3 small kids in

Don't forget to factor in that small kids very quickly turn into big kids! I'm looking for a new car now and finding it almost impossible to find ones with decent space in the back for 3 coming up to teenage years.

I have a Seat Ibiza and I lover her. She's nippy enough and does about 400 miles for £40

I can live with that carbon footprint.

Bigger cars are probably more comfortable and easier to drive.

They are harder to park and worse for the environment and more expensive to run and insure.

Depends a bit where you live - if you have to squeeze into small on street parking spaces a smaller car might be better!

If buying a new car I would prioritise safety features.

I drive a Mini Cooper, Volvo V70 or a Land Rover Defender.

They're all awesome in their own ways & none of them are any harder to drive than the others.

Good luck with your test!

My dh lives in London, he has a small(ish) car.

When I drive up to London in mine (Volvo XC90) I park up and it never gets moved until I drive home a few days later.

It's just not practical for parking around where he is, takes longer to find big enough, spot.

I see a lot of big Volvos up there but they must all have driveways or designated parking bays either that or have way more patience and time than me to drive around looking for a tidy spot ... or they don't care about their car and abandon it any shape.

Did make the mistake of driving it into Waitrose's carpark, massive concrete posts with concrete walls on a main route through with scrapes from previous drivers bad judgement as proof ... I was a bag of nerves.

Stick to the Fiat if you like it.

We also have a Mii which I adore, nippy thing all 1 litre of it Smile but parking in my local town is a doddle.

Update - DH has opted for a XC90 so I'd better get used to it! Talk about extremes! At least it's 2nd hand so if I bash it, it's not the end of the world (hopefully).

I have a 5 series estate and all my work colleagues call it a boat. It's very easy to park as long as you reverse in or parallel park. I also regularly drive LWB vans in central London and can park these too as I'm used to the size. My OH has an Audi A1 and I hate driving that. It's small and I feel really close to things because I'm used to having 4ft of bonnet and 8ft of car behind where I normally view the road. He however loves it and hates parking my big car but likes the quick forward swing into a space.

YABU

Big cars are dangerous. I've lost count of the amount of times I've nearly been hit or worse my dcs by an idiot reversing out of a driveway in their massive car and they can't see very well.
