Lane hoggers at junctions

I wonder if anyone else gets frustrated with those drivers who, on turning right at a junction seem to think they can hog both lanes thereby not allowing the drivers who want to turn left any room to do so. I'm sure they don't even realise they're doing wrong. All they have to do is tuck themselves in properly and let the traffic turning left flow freely. Confused

Oh yes. I have this every morning near my Dd's school. There is plenty of room but they sit in the middle of the lane causing a tailback.

Scentofwater · 19/09/2017 09:35

Or even better, when you are turning left and first at the junction, they drive up and put themselves so you can't see the traffic from the right and are stuck there waiting for them to move. Grrrr

SheRaaarghPrincessOfPower · 19/09/2017 09:37

Depends on the junction, and whether there are actual lanes or not really. I know what you mean, and it can be annoying, but I can't get worked up about it. I'll save my rage for people like the tailgating git that followed me all the way home from work yesterday.

Subtlecheese · 19/09/2017 09:38

Special level of hell.

MorrisZapp · 19/09/2017 09:40

DP gets annoyed about this but I think it's harsh. It takes a lot of confidence to push into the incoming traffic for turning right.

SheRaaarghPrincessOfPower · 19/09/2017 09:44

Why would you push out into oncoming traffic?

tinypony · 19/09/2017 09:44

I don't expect them to rush out into incoming traffic though, just to wait but allow drivers turning left to be able to do so.

Morris she means move over to the right of the lane as far as possible.

On your point about turning right into traffic sometimes it is the only way to get out. I have to turn right into to a major road every day. You would sit there for hours if you didn't push out. It's part of driving to have the confidence.

ShotsFired · 19/09/2017 09:51

Does this include people who can't use those middle of the road "slip lane" things for right hand turns?

You just slide into them so your car is parallel between the lines and can then wait safely out of the free flowing traffic each way. But some feckers seem to turn their vehicle so it is perpendicular, right across the lines - so their boot sticks out onto the left hand lane that runs next to it.

tinypony · 19/09/2017 09:57

Yes shots aren't they a massive wind up.

OP posts:
RainbowPastel · 19/09/2017 10:01

Yes Shots here they seem to put half their car in the filter lane but their other half in the original lane so you can't get past them. It makes the filter lane pointless.

TheNaze73 · 19/09/2017 10:01

Could you do us a diagram? Wink

Andrewofgg · 19/09/2017 10:03

I live near a point where you can turn right onto a main road at lights, and st rush hour there is a long queue to use the right turn. And there area number of drivers who take the left hand lane and then turn right because they are too important to queue. So bloody arrogant.

SalamiSandwich · 19/09/2017 10:05

There's a special place in hell for anyone that turns left from a right hand lane. Especially the bus that drove in front of me doing it while I was going straight on.

tinypony · 19/09/2017 10:06

Ill try

ErrolTheDragon · 19/09/2017 10:06

YANBU - except of course, those vehicles which swing out at the back as they turn. In that case leaving a space which another driver might think they could squeeze through might be a bad idea. But that really doesn't apply to normal cars.

CaptainHammer · 19/09/2017 10:12

I get annoyed at them too.

Similarly, there's a lot of one way streets around here that I have to use for work. The amount of people I get stuck behind as they've stayed in the left hand lane when they want to go right is infuriating!

Sparklingbrook · 19/09/2017 10:14

It's a fairly easy scenario to envisage without a diagram.

There are a lot of terrible drivers out there. Going out around here at school run time you can guarantee to see at least a couple of examples of entitled driving/parking.

Viserion · 19/09/2017 10:14

f people keep going up the left, they often pull so far forward to see round the car turning right that you cannot see left to turn across. This happens at a junction near my son's school. There is no 'left lane', just a semi-rural road junction. Others who are turning into the junction frequently cut the corner as they rush across a tiny gap, and would take the front of my car off if I am too far to the right. I have learned that it is quicker and safer to sit in the centre of the (left side of the) road to prevent people wheedling up the side of me or skimming my front end.

tinypony · 19/09/2017 10:26

I hate to say this, but in my experience the majority of drivers who do it are women. Sad

Can't believe you actually drew a diagram. Grin

tinypony · 19/09/2017 10:30

I know sparkling but someone requested one. Grin

I experience this every morning on the way to school (although at a roundabout rather than a junction.) Incredibly frustrating and the drivers doing it must know mustn't they?

Sparklingbrook · 19/09/2017 10:33

It's a fantastic diagram-just as I imagined the particularly complex driving situation to look. Grin

Eminado · 19/09/2017 10:36

Love the diagram - perfect representation of traffic blocking sticky out boot Grin
