Lane hoggers at junctions

I wonder if anyone else gets frustrated with those drivers who, on turning right at a junction seem to think they can hog both lanes thereby not allowing the drivers who want to turn left any room to do so. I'm sure they don't even realise they're doing wrong. All they have to do is tuck themselves in properly and let the traffic turning left flow freely. Confused

I've never seen anyone do this but would think them a massive tool if they did!

sharklovers · 19/09/2017 10:37

They're just shit drivers with no real concept or interest in what's going on around them. The funny thing is they probably think they're good drivers because they never exceed the speed limit.

i like to make myself clear sparkling, no room for doubt now. Grin

Extra hatred to whoever designed the exit road from our local leisure centre to be 1.75 car widths wide. Turning right is a nightmare, as the road goes into town and is usually at a standstill. And no one can turn left because they are stuck behind a queue of traffic waiting to turn right. So it can take 10 mins to leave the site - why o why?

ohhereweareagain · 19/09/2017 11:20

What incensed me this morning was when I had gone half way over a major junction wanting to turn right. Traffic from the left was very busy so it wasn't me being a crap driver missing opportunities to turn right . A huge 4x4 (no surprise) saddles up next to me on my lhs thus blocking my view as they thought they were a better driver than me and couldn't wait thus blocking my view so I am sat there like a cunt unable to pull out until they have gone 😡😡 . Actually this often happens at this junction and for some odd reason it is always either a 4x4 or BMW or Audi 😁 I wonder why?..

minionsrule · 19/09/2017 11:29

Its funny becayse i have a rule in me that if someone is at a junction turning either right or left, and i am turning the opposite way, i position myself a bit behind them so I can see what is coming and when it is clear i can just pull out. Never failed me yet and don't block other peoples view.
There is a special place in hell for people who cut corners when turning right into a side road. I purposely position myself right on the line so the lazy bastards have to make an effort 😠

BlackeyedSusan · 19/09/2017 11:36

I have only done the boot sticking out into the left hand lane once.... that was because as I was sliding parallel into the right turn space, a police car with blues and twos was barrelling down the road at 60mph towards me. and I had to get back out sharpish then no more road space to reposition properly.

YANBU

Lurkedforever1 · 19/09/2017 12:36

Yanbu. Drivers who can't use lanes correctly in any situation, and who also hover over the lines when they are in a lane should face lifetime bans, it's just bad driving.

ShesNoNormanPace · 19/09/2017 13:51

And also those who block junctions while in stationary traffic. Especially those who pretend not to notice that they have done so Hmm

RaspberryOverload · 19/09/2017 13:58

OP, I like your diagram, but can honestly say it's mostly men who do it round here Grin

tinypony · 19/09/2017 14:28

I notice with men it's their bad habit of coming over on to my side of the road. Where i live there's lots of winding country lanes. The number of drivers who are veering over the white line onto my side of the road is unbelievable. Often big lorries too. They even do it on bends ffs. Angry

Lweji · 19/09/2017 14:33

On your diagram there aren't two lanes. Just space for two cars on one lane.

Lweji · 19/09/2017 14:35

Where I live cars actually occupy two lanes when turning.
I call these twats "cars who think they're lorries".
And always beep them.

There isn't meant to be two lanes, it's one lane but when you get to the junction, if you're turning right you're supposed to keep to the right of of it and allow the traffic turning left to be able to do so without your back end blocking them. Confused

I hate it when you are at traffic lights on a X road where the lights stay green for longer on the main road and stay green for only a short time on the more minor road so only about about six cars can get over before they change back.

So what does the lead driver do? Wait until it turns green, sit there for bloody ages before thinking "oh it's green. Suppose I had better get ready to put it in gear and crawl off..." Worse still when car two and three adopt the same procedure.

I don't mean that they should take off like scalded cats but surely a little bit of being ready to move would not come amiss.

The result is that only two or three cars get through and bloody great queues build up behind.

tinypony · 19/09/2017 14:56

Oh yes whoputthecatout that's another huge wind up, often because they're looking at their bloody mobile phones.

It's nice if you leave space, but nobody is supposed to, actually.

And your OP was misleading talking about hogging two lanes, which they're not.

tinypony · 19/09/2017 18:09

Yes i realise that it was misleading, but you are supposed to position yourself properly if turning right so that the traffic turning left can get through. Obviously I'm talking about when the road is wide enough. An unwritten rule of the road? It's about having consideration for other drivers surely, rather than selfishly thinking of self?

Or are you one of those drivers. Hmm

One of my great annoyances is the generous letter outer who tries to dictate that i drive in an unsafe manner and not in accordance with the law/highway code.

Here is what i mean as an example,,

The other day i stopped at the give way line of the side street i was driving on. I was waiting to emerge onto a busier road and turn right.

After a short while it was clear to my right but to my left was a single car approaching and indicating right so he wanted to turn right into the street i was seeking to turn from.

There was no one coming up behind him for some distance. Instead of just cracking on and turning right,,ohh noo, he stopped short and started flashing me to pull out.

I steadfastly refused and he stayed there for a good 30 seconds flashing away.

In the end he did as he should have done, i e made the turn.

Such stupidity causes uncertainty and leads to accidents.
