Plus sized clothing for kids

Not sure if this has been covered yet - not seen it but apologies if it has!

See the article here

It makes me sad that we live in a world where we need plus sized clothes for kids. I was hideously obese as a child - I had to see a dietician when I was 10 and was in size 18-20 clothes - and this was down to the fact that I was allowed to eat whatever I wanted.

I genuinely believe this has dramatically affected my relationship with food nowadays, and I blame my parents and grandparents.

When do we start cracking down on kids having more than just puppy fat? Hmm

Agree we schools. The older DC get the same serving as younger kids in primary but can have seconds or thirds and don't get me started on cash cafeteria in secondary.

LOL at the comment re- showing id, Having a social worker etc... people need educating not shaming. Plus I think overweight children is the least of social work's worries unless it relates to other concerns of course... and I dont think social work shouldn't be involved because of the "shit job" you talk about OP but because resources are pretty terrible. I very much doubt any social worker went into the job with the intention of delivering a poor service.

No she hasn't but she's also not straight up and down anymore. Interestingly at age 4 we couldn't fit clothes skinny enough to fit her.

We've seen a doctor about it whilst also seeing her about another medical issue. She's also seen a paediatric consultant. Neither were at all concerned about her weight.

As for social work intervention. Please don't be so ridiculous.

@MooMooTheFirst I get where you're coming from. I'm not quite as strict as you - DD (17m) has a small bite or two of a chocolate biscuit, if I'm having one. Or a teaspoon or two full of a pudding or ice cream, if we're out for dinner, I let her taste but that's it. I think banning things makes them popular so I don't ban, but in general I also do not give her sweets, chocolate, biscuits etc. I also don't let her have proper crisps despite most people I know letting their toddlers eat adult size bags of quavers frequently (too much salt, as she so young still) but she does have the no-salt kiddies ones you get.

My DM turned up the other day with a bag of raspberry jam filled doughnuts for my OH. Walks in and says 'Oh, has she had her dinner? Oh good, she can have a doughnut!'

Are you joking? Give a 17 month old a doughnut? Why, just why would anyone think that's necessary or a good idea. She acted like I was being a total OTTA precious idiot. Luckily I have a thick skin, so I didn't care.

Andbabymakesthree... my thoughts exactly!

You would hope that if a parent has to buy the plus fit version it will be a wake up call but I'm really not sure that's the case

My Ds has always been taught about balance..When we come back off holiday we eat very healthy for a bit, takeaway followed by healhty meal next day.

He is now on a medication that does make him have a slightly reduced appetite till it wears off then is starving hungry..First few weeks he gained weight then we pulled back got the healthy snacks in to help him.. We had a takeaway the weekend so he chose fruit for pudding at school next day this week ( first time ever) ..It has took till he is 10 to start to be able to take that responsibility for a balanced diet...So up until that point it was my responsibility to balance it out.

I agree with the posters who seem to think the children whose parents think that wearing plus size clothing is normal are in denial. My DS has to wear skinny trousers as normal size look ridiculous on him..Even then he has a huge loop with the adjustable waistband.
