To ask for emergency pooing advice

I've just had a slightly panicked message from a friend (no idea why she's asking me but I guess I'm flattered she's thought of me as someone who could possibly help in a crisis) saying that the medicine she's been prescribed has made her poo really hard and she's in agony trying to pass it. She's 9 weeks pregnant. Is there anything she can do in the short-term, as in right now? I said I'd ask and get back to her asap! Sorry for the poo subject! And sorry for posting in AIBU, I'm just hoping for some quick responses!

Oh well done , Op's friend! Star
You can tell her that there are forty something random internet strangers who share her relief! Grin

I love threads like these. Brief, to the point and with a happy ending.

10/10; a life-affirming tale

If she has hyperemesis tell her to get on the group Hyperemesis Gravidarum and Pregnancy Sickness (UK group) on facebook. Lots of good advice for everything there

EvilDoctorBallerinaDuckKeidis · 17/09/2017 21:15

🎉🍰 Hooray! I know how she feels!

winobaglady · 17/09/2017 21:16

Stand in shower, put shower head onto strongest stream and direct at and around anus.
Should help ease anything stuck in your back passage out.

Good luck to her

ememem84 · 17/09/2017 21:16

Fibrogel drinks. I had an issue like your friends. And have been taking the drinks twice a week or so.

Never had the problem again.

Also eggs and strong coffee.

Ansumpasty · 17/09/2017 21:26

Not related (or helpful now she's sorted) but I have IBS-D and this thread has been helpful in warning me to keep away from the mint polos and sugar free Harbo!

grecian100 · 17/09/2017 21:28

If the poo is already in transit it needs to be softened from the bottom so glycerin suppository, lubricate with Vaseline to minimize tears/grazing and assume a pooing position.

AllToadsLeadToHome · 17/09/2017 21:33

Micralax enema, if the chemist has them in stock. Insert and hold on until softening occurs.

PacificDogwod · 17/09/2017 21:46

Oh, well done, OP's friend, we have a successful delivery Grin

Mittens1969 · 17/09/2017 21:53

I have this problem regularly and so does my DD1. Prune juice works (in moderation as it can lead to the opposite problem!), prunes, All Bran, lots of water or laxatives. It helps me to sit on the toilet for as long as it takes, with a book to read, and my feet pushing against something solid.

Hope things get better for your friend, a very embarrassing problem. Glad she managed to successfully get her poo out!

BellyDancer124 · 17/09/2017 21:58

Venti Caramel ice latte from Starbucks. Works a dream!

DorisDangleberry · 17/09/2017 22:20

If it is really problematic, use a pencil to work it out

NotAQueef · 17/09/2017 22:37

mrsj I know, I remember someone linking on here a couple of years ago and had lots of laughs reading

justilou1 · 18/09/2017 01:32

Water and maybe a glycerin suppository to soften it?

shakingmyhead1 · 18/09/2017 07:14

next time she needs to start eating gummy bears, according to the comments on amazon they will strip out things you ate 10 years ago

SkintAsASkintThing · 18/09/2017 07:38

Big mac meal always works for me 😂😂😂

YouCantArgueWithStupid · 18/09/2017 07:51

EdmundCleverClogs · 18/09/2017 09:45

No to licorice!

NHS site says avoid in pregnancy

In large quantities. There's nothing to suggest avoiding it completely.

TheLegendOfBeans · 18/09/2017 12:15

No to liquorice?!

Flipping heck, 36 weeks and approx 900kg of liquorice into this pregnancy...well you learn something new every day Confused

andbabymakesthree · 18/09/2017 13:27

Only because it raises blood pressure.

RiversrunWoodville · 18/09/2017 13:34

ShotsFired · 18/09/2017 13:36

I always find things loosen up if I go for a bike ride. Is that an option for her?
