To ask for emergency pooing advice

I've just had a slightly panicked message from a friend (no idea why she's asking me but I guess I'm flattered she's thought of me as someone who could possibly help in a crisis) saying that the medicine she's been prescribed has made her poo really hard and she's in agony trying to pass it. She's 9 weeks pregnant. Is there anything she can do in the short-term, as in right now? I said I'd ask and get back to her asap! Sorry for the poo subject! And sorry for posting in AIBU, I'm just hoping for some quick responses!

Sugar free haribo bears (see the amazon reviews for a clue about their effects)

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 17/09/2017 20:29

Doesn't orange juice work for babies? Same for adults?

FadedRed · 17/09/2017 20:30

Soak in a warm bath, then have a hot drink, put copious amount of anusol or olive oil in and around anus then sit on the lavatory, ideally with feet a bit raised from floor level encouraging a better 'crouch' position. She should make a thick pad of loo roll and hold it on the perineum, supporting the perineum and encouraging the bowel to empty. Sorry if TMI, but you did ask.

Appuskidu · 17/09/2017 20:31

Hot bath-that's what the midwife said to do to cope with a post baby poo!

EvilDoctorBallerinaDuckKeidis · 17/09/2017 20:32

Hospital baked beans on toast.

TheLegendOfBeans · 17/09/2017 20:33

If she's on medication for hypermesis keep away from the artificial sweetners. I only know this as a friend had v v v bad HG and was barred from her morning Diet Coke.

Prunes/Figs/liquorice are the way.

Also the utterly disgusting blight on society that is Lapsang Souchon tea.

sleepraptor · 17/09/2017 20:34

Squat on the toilet seat, actually with feet on seat.

Appuskidu · 17/09/2017 20:34

Or a squatty potty!

PanannyPanoo · 17/09/2017 20:35

warm bath is good and sitting on toilet feet on low stool blowing a party blower or recorder or blowing up balloom. exercising sphincter muscles in your body helps to release the anal sphincter.
according a physio I used to work with.
Musical poohs frequently occurred in the special school where I worked! Much more fun than just sitting on the loo.

MrsJBaptiste · 17/09/2017 20:36

NotAQueef Some of those Amazon reviews are brilliant! Grin

MrsJBaptiste · 17/09/2017 20:38

However my advice is a trip to Home Bargains. Without fail, I always need the loo when I'm wandering round that shop

Idontevencareanymore · 17/09/2017 20:38

Coffee! Does the job nicely

andbabymakesthree · 17/09/2017 20:40

Tell her to send her DP out to the chemist for Lactulose and a hot water bottle. Also tell her to drink lots of water, give up on trying to poo and to go to bed with hotwater bottle in the small of her back. All will be well in the morning Smile

MrsA2015 · 17/09/2017 20:43

Black coffee, brewers yeast,Jaffa cakes and fig rolls.

All work within the hour for me.

I suffered with bad constipation after birth for about a year to the point it had impacted so much so when it did eventually come out I bled a lot. Drinking water is essential and she will have to get her hands to do some work! Poor thing I feel her pain!

Happydoingitjusttheonce · 17/09/2017 20:44

If it's impacted then I think Bumwad has the right answer. The try the prunes and bath etc to soften the remnants.

primereadingitisthen · 17/09/2017 20:44

Manual evacuation............

EdmundCleverClogs · 17/09/2017 20:45
