AIBU to expect my DCs to be to be able to spend more than 30 seconds together without trying to kill each other?

I dread weekends. I hate them. My DH is always at work. I work too. But every weekend, without fail it ends with me losing my shit because my 2 DD fight constantly, we don't have a lot of space, they have to share a room. We are renting and can't afford to move. They drive each other (and me) mad with the constant bickering and it's starting to get me down. Why can't we be a normal family? (I know, no such thing). Why can't they just get on. AIBU to consider just leaving them to it and opening a bottle of wine instead?

Are you me?? My two have been driving me INSANE today. I'm not kidding, I literally have not been able to leave them in the same room today as they've been constantly winding each other and launching at each other wrestling style then wondering why they end up getting hurt.
Also had the mother of all tantrums from the youngest over God knows what Confused I wouldn't mind if they were toddlers, but they're supposed to grow out of this shit!!
Open the wine. I've just poured myself a glass as it's Saturday night dammit.
Sorry I'm no help but I'll be following for tips on how to make them behave like decent human beings!

megletthesecond · 16/09/2017 18:08

Yanbu.

Mine fight constantly. I've resigned myself to it and try and fill the weekend up with activites so I don't have to referee and separate all the time. We're at home now and I've just had to separate them while playing out, none of the other parents seem to have to do this.

mailfuckoff · 16/09/2017 18:10

I have 8 year old twins. They fight all the time and always have. We bought a bigger house so they could have a big back garden and a room each and still fight.

isitbedtimeyet73 · 16/09/2017 18:12

There are days where I literally go for a wee and WWIIII breaks out. Why is it other families get on and I get a couple of banshees. Again they are not toddlers. Might have to hide until they grow up

yabu. not many siblings can spend more than 30 secs together before fighting. you sound like a normal family already to me. enjoy your wine!

isitbedtimeyet73 · 16/09/2017 18:13

Mailfuckoff I would buy a boxing ring and some gloves and leave them to it

I was going to start a similar thread.
Ds1 is being an absolute monster today. Talking back and winding his brother up and being nasty. Not listen. The list is endless.

Ds2 is being cheeky and very physical.

Both are fighting each other.

isitbedtimeyet73 · 16/09/2017 18:15

Such a relief to know it's not just me. Sorry. I know it's shit. But we can all be in it together.

SilverdaleGlen · 16/09/2017 18:16

You ARE a normal family, I have a 4 bedroom house with 3 rooms to play in downstairs and they are still in the same one wanting the same toy trying to kill each other.

MamaOfTwos · 16/09/2017 18:16

Out of interest- what're your age gaps? I'm due dc2 in April and slightly terrified of this scenario! We'll have an 18m gap

thatdearoctopus · 16/09/2017 18:16

Shall I depress you all and tell you that it doesn't get better? My two are 19 and 21 and still do it - even when thousands of miles apart. I had one in Thailand last week, and the other in the USA, and they still managed to snipe at each other on the family WhatsApp. Angry

mailfuckoff · 16/09/2017 18:17

isitbedtimeyet I did but those inflatable giant cotton wool things so they could fight. One has a physical disability but is a scrappy fighter. It's the constant sarkiness and scarcasm and nastiness I hate.

Ummmmgogo · 16/09/2017 18:18

@mama all ages gaps are fighty. sorry. 18 months isn't too bad, but yes they will fight

Ishouldbedoingsomething · 16/09/2017 18:20

I have an 18m gap too - they are either best friends or trying to kill each other - especially when there is an audience and they are showing off!!

I was trying to give up drinking wine during the week but it's the only way I can get through everything 🍷🍷🍷

isitbedtimeyet73 · 16/09/2017 18:20

The age gap is 5 and a half years. The older one should know better (prepares to get roasted)

Ummmmgogo · 16/09/2017 18:22

yabu again. the older one can't help it. younger siblings are annoying. fact!

isitbedtimeyet73 · 16/09/2017 18:22

Mailfuckoff the giant inflatables sound fab. I saw some mini bumper cars the other week. Wish we could have them and they could sort it out that way.

OP posts:
isitbedtimeyet73 · 16/09/2017 18:25

Ummmmmgogo are you an older sibling by any chance? Yes the young one is annoying but when they are getting on it the older one deliberately lights the touch paper and stands back and complains when it all blows up in her face .

OP posts:
Ummmmgogo · 16/09/2017 18:26

what gave it away 😂

isitbedtimeyet73 · 16/09/2017 18:31

It was just a lucky guess 😂. I was the youngest (by minutes, I'm a twin) and I was an angel Halo where as my big sister......

OP posts:
Racheyg · 16/09/2017 18:50

Mine are 4 and 2 1/2

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 16/09/2017 18:58

My sister & I have a 4.5 year age gap (I'm the oldest). We fought most of the way through childhood, and that was without sharing a bedroom, but - and I know this won't help right now - we started getting on better when I left home & now we're really close.

I don't suppose there's any way you can divide the room up? Even just a screen down the middle?

megletthesecond · 16/09/2017 18:59

I've been known to mutter about a boxing ring too.

NerdyBird · 16/09/2017 19:06

Dsds 12 and 9 and dd 3 all manage to annoy each other in various combos. They each have their own room and a playroom, garden etc but still they bicker!

isitbedtimeyet73 · 16/09/2017 19:10

Room is too small to divide. It sounds no amount of space will help. Maybe the only answer is for me to move into the garden until they leave home
