Aibu to not go on the hen party in Holland? Worried about terrorism

I am meant to be flying out tomorrow for my best friends hen party and my husband for the stag.
Kids are nearing end of primary school age and are staying with my parents from tomorrow morning to Monday evening so that's all fine.
But now I'm terrified something will happen and both me and hubby will be leaving the kids without parents if an attack did happen!
Red light district is a hotspot for an attack if it did happen in Amsterdam looking at the online info so am really panicking!
Would you all go and not worry?

I would go and have a good time. I'm not aware of any particular risks identified for Amsterdam.

100 percent would go.im off out in Manchester city centre tonight and was on the metrolink off to work at 7am after the bombing at the arena, as were most people. Tomorrow I'm going to London. Life goes on

You could decide not to go for all sorts of reasons, but this reason is not likely to come true. It's probably more likely you'll slip on a banana peel and break a leg when stepping out of the taxi, on your way to the plane.

I'd go like a shot. Frankly you are at greater risk of being hit by a bike than from a terrorist attack.

The red light district isn't the only thing to see in Amsterdam! Why do you think it's a target when no other similar areas have been struck?

I'd worry and go anyway. Once you start giving in to irrational worries they get worse and worse.

Just because there are lots of people in one small area.
And this is where we will be spending most of our time as its a hen and stag party!
I haven't flown without the children either so perhaps this anxiety is also coming into my play too

Yes I'd go, was there recently actually. I do understand the anxiety, it's based on the fact that two of you might be killed because you're going together but life has to go on, and we can't not live it. What would you achieve by not going? The chances of anything happening are so miniscule so as to be negligible.

Amsterdam is a pretty small city you know. There will be cities all over Europe far busier than the Red Light area which is tiny.

You're being utterly unreasonable.

You are literally more likely to die coming down the stairs than in a terror attack. Also the red light district in Amsterdam is really small and after the initial giggle, pretty horrendous. I'm sure you'll find somewhere else in Amsterdam better to have fun. Don't bother with the sex museum, its awful.

What's all new to you? Is it going out of the Uk? Maybe if you can pinpoint the real source of the anxiety you can rationalise it a bit better?

It wouldn't even cross my mind not to go. Deep breath and try to relax, you're going on holiday. Have fun!

Your odds of dying in the bathtub, crossing the street, in the car on the way to the airport, or even from a heart attack are far greater that being involved in a terrorist attack. Life is a gamble, no matter what you're doing. You can live as a prisoner to the "What If's", or you can just simply live. The choice is yours.

Try and flip it on it's head, no kids means no stressing or entertainment on the flight, no worrying they're being too loud, have a wine and enjoyWineFlowers

The part of this trip where you're most likely to be wiped out together is the taxi to the airport.

Terrorist attacks are fucking awful but, even if you're involved in one, the odds are on your side.

Go go go! I try to rationalise these things by thinking of all the people who are there now and have been visiting all year (me included). They are all having/had a great time safely. Relax and enjoy
