To shave my cat's arse?

No sniggering at the back there.

My semi long haired cat, bless her, quite often goes for a shit but gets a little stuck in the hair around her arse.

Is she just not very bright or is this a "thing"?

Maybe just a little trim?

MrTrebus · 15/09/2017 14:00

Ah the clingnuts! One of life's little joys. Be kind take her to the groomers it's usually between £40-70 quid to get the full works and a short all over shave (or a lion cut or a bum only shave if you prefer) we do it for our girl cat every 6 months or so, no clingnuts and less fur balls! Win win.

plantsitter · 15/09/2017 14:01

Do it yourself. Post before and after pictures - of you. Grin

SerendipityFelix · 15/09/2017 14:02

Not U at all. I often do a quick "nappy clip" when cats are in for their routine health checks (vet). It's just routine hygiene for some pets.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 15/09/2017 14:02

Pet wipes?

TheABC · 15/09/2017 14:04

We trim our long-haired cat's breeches evety 4-6 weeks for that reason. And he is in for a shock next spring when he gets his first underbelly clipping at the groomers. Serves him right for constantly sitting in stickybuds.

Bringbackpublicfloggings · 15/09/2017 14:04

I had to do this with my cat, the clinkers were driving her mad.

DingDongDenny · 15/09/2017 14:06

My little kitten had the runs this week - she did a very sloppy one, halfheartedly tried to bury it, getting poo all over her paws, then ran off to play

I was cleaning up little shitty paw prints for ages, then had to put her in the sink Envy

pigsDOfly · 15/09/2017 14:08

My dog has very long hair, particularly around the back of her legs and bum, she also has a long plumy tail, so I have to have her bum groomed regularly, have in fact done it myself on occasion.

The groomer clears a strip from just under her tail downward, also clears some of her tummy fur. Can't see why you couldn't get the same done for your cat. Definitely get a groomer to do it though, because I doubt a cat would be as forgiving as a dog if you tried doing it yourself, and I suspect you'd end up pretty badly scratched.

pigsDOfly · 15/09/2017 14:13

Why would you shave a long haired cat all over MrTrebus? Surely it would be simpler just to have a short haired cat if you don't like the fur?
And £70 for the pleasure; a full groom on my dog never costs more than £35 or so, what the hell's involved in the full works for that amount of money.

Scribblegirl · 15/09/2017 14:19

Sometimes I can spend an evening quite happily curled up with a glass of wine and some crap TV and distractedly stroking Merlin whilst picking dried shit off his bum.

I really do have the world's most glamorous lifestyle Grin

Lindy2 · 15/09/2017 14:21

I've just clipped the bum fluff of an elderly rabbit (my life is so glamourous). It has actually helped her poo problem quite a bit so I think it would work for a cat. Good luck with it - I hope your puss is gentle with you. The rabbit seemed to quite enjoy the pampering.

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 15/09/2017 14:23

I take scissors to my cat's butt regularly to keep it clean. Easier than trying to clean her!!

MrTrebus · 15/09/2017 14:25

Alright @pigs better pull up the judgey pants! We get her shaved because 1) she licks her long hair all day then gets horrendous hair balls and once a hair ball got stuck and she had to go to the vets 2) she gets not but is stupid so carries on sunbathing and once became dehydrated leading to a UTI. 3) No clingnuts.

I love my pets I wouldn't do something because I didn't like how her fur looks Hmm

MrTrebus · 15/09/2017 14:26

*hot

Also depends where you live how much groomers cost.

pigsDOfly · 15/09/2017 14:28

I'm not being judgey MrTrebus. it was a genuine question. No judgement involved at all.

Spogget · 15/09/2017 14:40

My long haired cat is a filthy devil so he gets his bloomers and belly shaved quite short. I do it myself but he is very laid back so he doesn't mind.

Time to shave him again because he has just come running in the house soaking wet (he likes being out in the rain) with a massive slug stuck to his arse and twigs all in his belly fluff. This happens regularly this time of year, it's not just poo I have to pick off him. Urgh.

splendidisolation · 15/09/2017 14:50

Thanks for the replies guys, many of them have me snorting away like a beast.

spogget I call mine's bloomers her knickerbockers 🤣

Toddlerteaplease · 15/09/2017 15:26

YANBU. My long haired Persians have just had a £72 haircut from a groomer. Including a bum and back leg trouser trim. Your vet nurse will also do it. It's called a hygiene trim.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/09/2017 15:28

clingnuts. What a brilliant description. My cats now resemble cows as their back end clip is a bit square.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/09/2017 15:30

Mine cost £72 for both. £45 each cat but a discount for the second cat.

Chesntoots · 15/09/2017 15:57

I have to trim my cat's trousers every couple of months.

I then have to go away and lie in a darkened room for a short while to get over the trauma...
