Going to London tomorrow - what to do :(

pinkunicornsarefluffy · 15/09/2017 11:52

Posting here for traffic, I am going to London tomorrow, train from here to Paddington, then Euston, then Watford Junction.

Having just seen the news about the bomb, I am now terrified. I rarely go to London and this is so scary. There will be 3 adults and 3 children aged 9, 10 and 13.

If we don't go, we lose £600, but what price your life or your kids life?

We are still thinking of going and doing bus or taxi from Paddington.

Has anyone got any advice on transport ?

What would you do?

7/7 was in 2005...

Ummmmgogo · 15/09/2017 13:49

and they have drug gangs in the countryside too. www.theguardian.com/society/2015/aug/12/city-drug-gangs-are-muscling-into-rural-and-coastal-towns-says-report

doesn't seem like a safe place to live what with dangerous roads, murdering cows and drug dealers. you will have to move to London if you want to be safe!

ThePants999 · 15/09/2017 13:50

I don't understand why people expect that a terrorist attack is more likely immediately following one that just happened. You're probably safer tomorrow than any time recently.

Getout21 · 15/09/2017 13:51

just realised it was 15 yrs for the cows.

blackteasplease · 15/09/2017 13:52

I would continue to live in London perfectly safely, which is what I am doing right now!

Getout21 · 15/09/2017 13:54

why is that statistic comparing 15 yrs of deaths caused by cows to 7 yrs of deaths by terrorism? Shouldn't the time frame at least be the same?

who know cows were so dangerous?

Getout21 · 15/09/2017 13:54

knew!

honeylulu · 15/09/2017 13:55

I appreciate it seems worrying because London is a bit of an unknown quantity to you.
I commute to london everyday (I'm at Paddington at the moment) and I honestly don't give terrorism risk a second thought (except to feel sorry for the victims when it does occasionally happen). You'll be fine. Enjoy your day out.

ClinkyMonkey · 15/09/2017 13:55

I haven't read all the responses, but I think it's completely understandable that OP has reservations. As someone who was brought up in Belfast during the troubles, yes, I 'just got on with it', but that didn't stop me being worried or anxious. This 'aw, you'll be fine' attitude is not helpful and is quite patronising. It's human nature to think about such things. If there's a plane crash, for example, it's natural to think twice about getting on a plane, but with the passage of time the worry decreases. By the way, I realise that many posters are telling OP she'll be fine in order to reassure, but some seem to have quite an imperious attitude.

I disagree and don't see it as patronising at all. I have a family member who was badly hurt in the London Bridge attack.

did you actually type that Smile

YOU NEED TO CALM DOWN

spidey66 · 15/09/2017 14:01

I'm with Harriet by the way. You can get to Watford from Paddington without going to Euston. Get the Bakerloo to Harrow and Wealdstone and pick up the train from there.

Wildaboutoscar · 15/09/2017 14:02

No understanding of anxiety

HotNatured · 15/09/2017 14:06

but what price your life or your kids life?

Could you be any more unduly hyperbolic

its London not Aleppo Hmm

Capricorn76 · 15/09/2017 14:08

Wow, I did not know that there was only a 1 in 8000 chance of dying in a road accident. I also work (1 in 43000) and eat (1 in 370000). OMG I'm going to die!!

In all seriousness, do we have to have one of these threads everytime there's an attack in London? You can almost time your watch by them. If they're not in here they're marking themselves as 'safe' on Facebook even though they live and work 50 miles away!

In all honesty this is what happened at my workplace (in London) today:

Person 1: 'Did you hear about Parsons Green?'
Person 2: 'yes, bad isn't it, the bastards. Nobody died did they?'
Person 1: 'No'
Person 2: 'What are you up to his weekend, anything nice?

EvilDoctorBallerinaDuckKeidis · 15/09/2017 14:09

I live in London and have survived 21 years. Police presence will be up at the moment, it's probably safer to come here now! Please try not to worry. Flowers

Youcanstayundermyumbrella · 15/09/2017 14:09

Argh, the OP has made it clear her group doesn't want to go on the tube! This is why going on the Bakerloo is not an option.

Nousernameforme · 15/09/2017 14:12

Op can i ask where you will be staying? There are 6 of us looking to go do the natural history museum one day then HP the next and I can not find suitable accommodation anywhere

plantsitter · 15/09/2017 14:12

You could go on the Bakerloo OP and avoid Euston

ducks @youcanstayundermyumbrella

I confess I did not read the thread properly Grin

pinkunicornsarefluffy · 15/09/2017 14:12

Just laughing at the "death by cows" comments. I do know people who have been attacked by bulls, nasty creatures. I used to milk a herd of 100 cows twice a day , most if them were lovely, not a murderer in sight :)

Thanks for all the help and advice. I will discuss it with my friend as she is the one saying rather do racism whereas I'm trying to think that train will be ok.

OP posts:
pinkunicornsarefluffy · 15/09/2017 14:13

Rather do taxi , no idea where racism came from! Bloody autocorrect

Sounds about right! I work near Westminster. When that happened there was general irritation & then relief when they reopened the tube station.

pinkunicornsarefluffy · 15/09/2017 14:15

nousername we are staying at the Holiday Inn Express, there are several hotels around there.

OP posts:
pinkunicornsarefluffy · 15/09/2017 14:15

Sorry, at Watford Junction

BlackThumb · 15/09/2017 14:15

I'd be more thinking about what the route is if that fire is still going, it's a mess around Euston at the moment.

Don't worry about the tube, just be vigilant like always.

No spoilers about the play - I'm going soon!
