Going to London tomorrow - what to do :(

Posting here for traffic, I am going to London tomorrow, train from here to Paddington, then Euston, then Watford Junction.

Having just seen the news about the bomb, I am now terrified. I rarely go to London and this is so scary. There will be 3 adults and 3 children aged 9, 10 and 13.

If we don't go, we lose £600, but what price your life or your kids life?

We are still thinking of going and doing bus or taxi from Paddington.

Has anyone got any advice on transport ?

What would you do?

You will be perfectly fine.

puddingpen · 15/09/2017 11:54

Could happen anywhere. People who live in London just get on with it. Go. You'll be fine.

PoppyH56 · 15/09/2017 11:54

I think you need to think about the amount of people who travel into London on a daily basis and who live there. It's millions.
£600 is a lot of money to lose. You can't live in fear. I would still go to be honest, maybe get Uber's if you really don't want to get on the tube?

WineAndTiramisu · 15/09/2017 11:55

It'll be fine, you're more likely to end up in a car crash then a terrorist bomb...

MarmaladeIsMyJam · 15/09/2017 11:55

I'm here now, business as usual in the city.

KarateKitten · 15/09/2017 11:56

I would t give it a second thought. You wouldn't have expected Manchester considering today's news would you? I know it's hard to be rational about these things but there's no reason to think you are any safer taking your local bus than going to London.

Phosphorus · 15/09/2017 11:57

I'd feel safer on the Tube than in an Uber.

You'll be fine. Only a tiny part of the underground was shut this morning.

Just check TFL for engineering works, and carry on as normal.

Thete really isn't any great danger.

ArcheryAnnie · 15/09/2017 11:58

You will be absolutely fine.

Think about the car journeys (outside of London) that you make all the time. You don't get upset about them even though people are injured and killed in car accidents all the time, because you know that the odds are on your side.

I do understand feeling scared, but the key thing to hang on to is that even though your fear is very real, it's an irrational fear. You can't live your life like that.

Go on your trip. Have fun. It'll be fine.

Sprinklestar · 15/09/2017 11:58

I think you need to get a grip! What about the people who live and work in London day in, day out? By not going, you let the terrorists win, which is exactly what they want.

EsmeeMerlin · 15/09/2017 11:59

If anything you will be safer because everyone will be on high alert and there will be a increase of police on tfl. It's also highly unlikely to be two terror attacks two days in a row. I live in greater London and will be travelling in tomorrow and just get on with life as normal.

Smallplant · 15/09/2017 11:59

Sorry but this thread is very silly. Millions of people live in London, and we are just continuing. Got the news notification on my phone this morning, then got off my bus and straight onto the tube in to work, just like everyone else.

I hate threads like this, right after an incident, with people nowhere near the incident having a pity party. Your family are more likely to be killed or injured as you drive them to the station, or indeed in a car accident at any other time. Statistically speaking London is very safe.

I'm guessing you're going to Harry Potter world? Just go and have fun.

Carry on as normal

bookwormsforever · 15/09/2017 12:00

Well, the Watford Junction to Watford line is closed all day today due to a fire in Harrow. Wait to see if that's opened by tomorrow?

That's more likely to play havoc with your journey than a terrorist attack.

coddiwomple · 15/09/2017 12:01

I am in London, it's horrendous what happened yet again this morning, but I honestly don't feel specially unsafe. Not better or worst than yesterday.

If it makes you feel safer, just take a taxi. It's not unreasonable at all to feel a bit trapped when you go so low underground, and to avoid the tube, especially after today.

I am honestly more worried about my kids being run over by one of the nutcase parent driving and parking stupidly around their schools than by a possible terrorist attack.

whyhastherumgone · 15/09/2017 12:03

I'm heading to London very shortly and will be getting the tube - yes it's a worry but everyone is going to be on high alert now and for the next few days, police etc going to be even more vigilante and I expect to see an increased presence at stations.
I would still go. If you're really worried about the tube, maybe get a cab?

LizB62A · 15/09/2017 12:03

Have a think about how many millions of people were on the underground at the time of the incident today - only 18 people were unlucky enough to be injured.

You need to take a breath, you will be fine.

bookwormsforever · 15/09/2017 12:03

See www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/sep/15/trains-london-euston-milton-keynes-cancelled-huge-fire-in-harrow - they're having to rebuild a wall by the train track, expected to take all day.

Hereward1332 · 15/09/2017 12:03

You'll be fine, but if you're worried you can probably avoid the tube. Bus from Paddington to Euston in 30 mins. Depending on where you're coming from, you can probably avoid tube and bus.

But you will be fine. Don't worry.

ArcheryAnnie · 15/09/2017 12:03

Ooh yes, it'll be Harry Potter that you are going to! Just think - what would a Gryffindor do?!

Seriously go, have fun. Someone posted upthread that it'll actually be safer tomorrow than usual as the security services will be on high alert.

(PS if you are buying stuff, the replica jumpers - school and quidditch - are horribly expensive, but really well-made, and in the end IMO are the best-value things in the shop, as they last and look good for ages,.)

formerbabe · 15/09/2017 12:05

If we don't go, we lose £600, but what price your life or your kids life?

Sorry op, but this is ridiculously dramatic. Statistically, I'd imagine getting in a car or crossing the road is a far more dangerous proposition. Just go and enjoy your weekend.

SunSeptember · 15/09/2017 12:06

Op Its so horrid when your scared and worried and people have no sympathy for that Sad of course your bound to be worried especially if your not there in the "business as usual" hubbub in London.

I always feel vigilance really ups after and attack and also its usually week days, when casualties are higher. I also read somewhere they are told to attack on Fidays when Muslims will be safe in MOsques.

Go op...be vigilant and also maybe just get a taxi across London if your scared...pricey but peace of mind..

SleepFreeZone · 15/09/2017 12:07

I would go.

existentialmoment · 15/09/2017 12:07

What would you do?

I'd stop being so over-dramatic and get on with my plans.nobody died today, or have any more than minor injuries, and the tube will be safer tomorrow than it was yesterday.

hana32 · 15/09/2017 12:09

I'm sorry that you're feeling worried and scared, but honestly, you are way more likely to get hurt just crossing the road. Do your journey as planned, you will be fine.
