I am member (lurker) on a Facebook group that helps people get their debt wrote off, advocates not paying TV licences etc the group gets my back up, but it provides some regular entertainment. BUT tonight has shocked me, people are actually calling our NHS disgusting for charging for prescriptions ?! Are people crazy, do people want everything for free in life?

Grrrr I just felt like I needed a little rant Angry

Chattymumhere Unless you were forced at gunpoint to use your £4K limit I can't see what your beef is.

I never said I spent it I may of been young and dumb to even open an account but I had my head screwed on enough to only borrow what I could repay. My point is it's irresponsible. If you have someone with £0 income giving them 4K to spend is just asking for trouble.

For people really struggling with debt, pay day loans, bailiffs etc, try a website called Debt Camel

The NHS dont check up everything - I cite the folk from abroad who get free NHS hospital treatment - they aren.t immed asked for dosh, they are treated first. In Spain (am talking about when we defo had the so-called reciprocal arrangement!!!) - errrrr well it never was reciprocal. My partner had an epilepsy episode in Spain whilst I was in the loo. Immed an ambulance called. Immediately they told me that will be 100 Euros before they would check him over, yes thats right, immed. Plus We Have To See Both Yr Passports. End of. Here? Everyone treated free in hospitals here to the extent (yes check this out if you dont believe me) women hide pregnancies to fly here, then have a free birth. So I think the prescriptions bit may be haphazard too because I like another poster am asked in the chemist Is this free as opposed to Do you pay? The temptation is say yep its free!! I wouldn't tho because the NHS allegedly is very short of cash and I dont want to be the straw that broke the camels back :-(

What does "immed" mean?

Anyway, I had treatment at an NHS hospital January last year and had to show my passport at every appointment.

In some EU countries, I know France for sure, you pay up front even if you are a national, so they are simply treating you the same as their nationals, which means it IS reciprocal, just on a different system. You can't expect them to have a different system just for visitors, they don't. And quite right too.
