£50 advent calendar for tweens

Ijustwantaquietlife · 14/09/2017 14:37

I know I'm not the target market, but my neice would apparently like a £50 advent calendar. I wouldn't mind the high price point but it looks like awful value, some confetti and cookie cutters are the type of gifts and there are only 12 holes.

It just seems such blatant rip off by a money hungry YouTuber who has alot of young fans. I can barely see £20 of value in it!

Important info
The Lifestyle Advent Calendar (contains bauble, confetti, purse, candle 130g, cookie cutter x 2, jotter pad, key ring, pen, room spray 30ml, stickers and votive)

No wonder she & her boyfriend have moved into a fab new house!

PeaceAndLove1 · 14/09/2017 16:54

I've never heard of this company Confused

MintCassis · 14/09/2017 16:54

If you were planning to spend £50 you could make up your own advent calendar that is much more personal and better value. Buy 25 little things, cosmetics she uses, stationery, lip balm, chocolate coins, etc and wrap each one up then number the parcels. She'll have something to open up each day in the lead up to Christmas and it's a really thoughtful gift. You can split up multipacks of cookie cutters and candles too so they cover separate days and have more money to spend on decent cosmetics.

NewDaddie · 14/09/2017 17:08

I don't think anyone ever thought it was worth £50, even Boots. It's already on 'promotion' but even after 3-4-2 it's not worth £33+. It's a sales strategy aimed at loyal kids with more money than sense.

I'm not looking forward to this crap when dd is older.

pasturesgreen · 14/09/2017 18:08

I knew it'd be Zoella! Grin

Seems ridiculously wasteful, you could get her a quite nice 'proper' present for that money. Surely that's better than a handful of cheap tat that'll be forgotten about come January anyway?

LadyDeadpool · 14/09/2017 18:33

I suspect Zoella would stick her name on hemorrhoid cream given the chance.

kali110 · 14/09/2017 18:34

Is that it???
I got the nyx last year for £50 and it was filled with makeup!
I wouldn't even pay £10 for that, that's shocking.

Ijustwantaquietlife · 14/09/2017 19:49

I've just had a nosey at her new huge house and apart from being on the main road in hustpierpoint looks lovely. Even more determined to not buy any of her products. It's more about morals than spending the money.

Love the idea of making my own, I've got the time and inclination now it's cold outside. I might sell it to her under the guise of it being much better with 24 days rather than 12 Grin I'll probably end up spending more or needing another neice to split some items.

What a pile of utter crap. Btw, the £60 Body Shop calendars were reduced to £40 on December 2nd last year Grin.
That one will probably be about 75p...

metalmum15 · 14/09/2017 19:56

Don't forget her boyfriend has a net worth of several million too. I'm in the wrong job 😉

BLUESEAPARADISE · 14/09/2017 20:00

Hello

If you search YouTube for the calendar you will see someone opening it... it's a complete waste of money in my opinion ... you get an xmas tree decoration, a star cutter for baking , a brush and a candle and a few other little things that don't come close to £50 .. just wanted to warn you as a family member very nearly ordered it Confused

caggie09 · 14/09/2017 20:12

Ive watched other Youtubers under the same management as Zoella, and they never have a bad word to say about her products. A product will pop up in a video and its ''amazing'' ''YOU NEED TO BUY THIS'' Its really cringey to watch. i feel sorry for parents that get nagged to buy the ''merch'', they had a pop up shop and the cheapest thing there was £10 and that was just for a phone case. They have a lovely house, but seems unfair to charge so much to kiddies that nag mum and dad for the stuff.

ilovesooty · 14/09/2017 20:16

It's not nearly the season at all.

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 14/09/2017 20:23

Whatever you do, don't buy it full price. This is 3-4-2 fodder at the very least - I'd bet ready money on it being one of Boots' headline "HALF PRICE DEAL"s in the run up to Xmas. If I had a niece of the appropriate age I'd probably shell out 25 quid for it, but the 50 quid RRP is as fictional as the prices on the labels in GAP.

Ijustwantaquietlife · 14/09/2017 21:19

I know how zoella sleeps at night, on 2000 thread count luxuary sheets. She obviously doesn't care that she rips people off.

Yes I've seen that unboxing video, she pretends it's not that bad but you can tell shes thinking the whole time along what a rip off!

Ijustwantaquietlife · 01/10/2017 13:46

Sorry to bump, but I wrote a negative review and now it looks like all reviews on zoella products are hidden. They appear fine on the rest of the boots site.

Surely that's a bit dodgy hiding reviews for some products that get bad reviews?

Gingernaut · 01/10/2017 13:55

Ashley does one for £40

NYX do one for £50. That's if she likes make-up

The Soap & Glory calendar is £40

Expensive though they are, they're srill better value that Zoella....

Gingernaut · 01/10/2017 13:55

THAN Zoella

Gingernaut · 01/10/2017 13:56

and Laura Ashley. FFS. You'd never think I preview posts, would you?

Idontevencareanymore · 01/10/2017 13:58

I'm just Shock at £50 on an advent calender.

I think the £4 nice chocolate ones are expensive.....

skustew · 11/11/2017 18:07

Sorry had to bump this with a fab review Grin

HolidayHelpPlease · 11/11/2017 18:23

Skustew you beat me to it... I love JaackMate but didn’t find this one as funny - more sad at the thought of the little tweens who’ve saved up for this all year! (They exist, I teach them 😔)

JennyBlueWren · 11/11/2017 18:42

I saw a Playmobil one in a charity shop for £20!

skustew · 12/11/2017 09:56

I know what you mean about feeling sad, but there are lots of scammers out there so the sooner people wise up the better.

What is worrying is the people defending zoella, "it's not her fault it was that price, she probably would have loved to price it lower but wasn't allowed". She owns full control of her companies and using industry standard markups it would have been 15-20 and she could have priced it at that if she wanted to.
