Just drive through a quieter part of a busy town.
Approaching a set of traffic lights so was slowing down in a 40 zone. .
To my left I noticed a woman on a mobility scooter. . Bright floral skirt and dark pink handbag. Hair in a bit of an up- do style. Sunglasses on..
I had mine on too.
Prescription ones or can't see to drive.
Took a second glance as I got to the lights.
(My inner mind- on reflection- was maybe puzzled. .)
The occupier of the scooter was also spouting a full beard.
My brain went into full on confusion mode.
What would you have thought?

EverybodyHappy I hope for your sake you've grown some compassion and empathy since leaving your small town, because your attitude was horrible.

Silvercatowner · 13/09/2017 19:47

Les Dawson would be looked on in a completely different light these days. Society has moved on. Well some elements of society.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 13/09/2017 19:48

"Why should we pretend it's not funny when it is funny?"

It's not funny.

scaryclown · 13/09/2017 21:26

I can't believe anyone who is a member of MNwould be so 😮 about someone who may be transgender.

As long as he wasn't driving his scooter into a female space, let him crack on. There should be much more sacking off of "gendered" clothing and behaviour.

scaryclown · 13/09/2017 21:30

Also known as the JAMMS..

(Muumuu joke!)

That post is fnar central!

Buxtonstill · 13/09/2017 21:34

It was the 'varieties of transvestives' that I thought was appalling. Do you consider different disabilities to be different varieties? How about people with different ethnic origins; are they different varieties too? Well whichever variety you are, I hope you are in short supply. That poor guy on the bus wasn't there for your amusement. It had probably taken every shred of courage to go out of the house and it probably really affected him to have you and your sister taking the piss. Shame on you. And you still think it's 'funny'? Words fail me.

SmileEachDay · 13/09/2017 21:37

No wonder the OP's disappeared. What a ridiculous post

scaryclown · 13/09/2017 21:49

I think more likely she has embarked on a swirling druggie fantasy of Demis Rousoss music and bearded ladies..

Miserylovescompany2 · 13/09/2017 21:55

Your concentration was on your driving/traffic lights/slowing down etc for the most part - the fleeting glance was just that, your brain didn't fully process all of the tiny details.

LakieLady · 13/09/2017 21:56

The most likely thing would be that it was a man in a dress. Every man can put on a dress, while only few women can grow beards, and fewer still would do so.

Indefatigable logic, Vestal. I concur.

On balance of probabilities, I'd go with man in a skirt (well, not literally, not unless he was handsome or rich).

MammaTJ · 13/09/2017 22:01

Bless your little cotton socks!

MammaTJ · 13/09/2017 22:25

EverybodyHappy, it seems you are making nobody happy with your opinions on this thread!! You need to either 1/ stay in your home and never leave it, for the mental health of those you would otherwise bully (and yes, what you describes is bullying) or 2/ Get out more, try to be more open minded and accepting of differences.

Where do you live OP?

I can see that this would be a much more surprising sight in some places than others.

PollyFlint · 13/09/2017 23:00

Are you for real?

Yes, it's unusual to see a bearded man in a dress, or indeed a woman with a beard. It isn't, however, unheard of, and certainly not something you need to 'make sense of'.

It's none of your business if a man wears a skirt or a woman has facial hair and affects you in no way whatsoever.

lottieandmia · 14/09/2017 13:24

I actually think that if people were more accepting of men wearing skirts and gender less clothing then we wouldn't have women's rights being eroded by the trans movement.

kingfishergreen · 14/09/2017 14:33

Top Tip: don't come to Brixton.

Have you seen the middle-aged guy, with the belly-top, tiny skirt and long fairish hair recently Camper? I used to see him all the time on Acre Lane/Clapham Park Road, but haven't seen him for AGES!!
