I've been induced and husband wants to go to work

Hi everyone.
I'm 37+5 and been induced yesterday. Hormone tampon hasn't worked so I now have a gel inserted to help get things going.

I'm happy for my DH to be at home relaxing or getting on with stuff so we can have quiet time and conserve energy for active labour. However, DH said he wants to go to work so we don't lose any wages. I think we'd manage fine unpaid for 3 days before paternity kicks in.

I feel very upset by this. Irrationally I am happy for him to be at home and to call him if anything changes but really unhappy at the thought of him going to work. I know rationally that it's unlikely labour will speed up lots and baby will come quick but I still feel it's an unknown risk.

Aibu to feel unhappy that his priority seems to be work as opposed to waiting for the induction to speed up?

Is this your first OP? I had a sweep on the morning before my first was born, came home and DH sat down to "do a few emails." I was LIVID. I wanted him to sit there looking at me having mild contractions I think. In hindsight, that wouldn't have been the best use of his time Grin.

Good luck I hope it's going to speed up soon op! Fwiw you are allowed not to be rational right now Wink

He probably just wants to distract himself and might as well get paid for it, as long as he can get back you when labour does start. He doesn't really need to conserve his energy, you will be the one doing the hard work!

Good luck and hope you have a speedy labour! I was induced, had first tablet at midday, labour started at 530pm and DS was born at 907pm same day. It was quicker than I expected and I only pushed twice from 9pm.

I wasn't at all prepared for that as the Midwife told me it could take up to three days for labour to start and that's what I'd expected

Good luck. I can see his point but I can definitely see yours, too - another induced person here. I got taken in on the Thursday, monitored but not given anything, and then my birth partners (mum and best mate) were sent home at 11pm but I had to stay. About 20 minutes after they had gone, one of the doctors came in and started saying maybe they should give me a dose now, just in case (I had high blood pressure). I pointed out that both birth partners had just been kicked out, that I would be better able to cope with labour if I had some sleep, and that I promised faithfully not to die in the night.
So I got the gel pessary at 6am and sat on the windowledge twitching for about 3 hours until mum and mate came back. Then the drug wore off or something, they gave me some more at about 3pm and DS finally showed up at 9pm.
Hope it all goes well for you.
