To not be happy at all

A few days ago we picked up a kitten, a very vocal kitten, got him home and we was doing loose poos in his litter tray, put it down to stress of a new home. Today he's pooing mucus and blood. I'm going to have to now take him to the vets, possibly pay 100's of pounds for tests and treatment, all for a cat we've had 4 days.
Aibu to be fuming?
I've had kittens before and apart from the necessary spaying/jabs etc they've been fine!
I didn't expect to buy a poorly cat. Maybe it's a coincidence? Angry
He's fine and happy playing though.
Confused

Where did you get the kitten from?

BeachyKeen · 13/09/2017 10:23

Was it get checked before you got It?

achootigersmall · 13/09/2017 10:31

The litter was advertised on a pet page, they'd had all the necessary flea and worming treatment and I just had to worm him again which I did last night.

Insurance is getting done today although it wouldn't of helped anyway as most have a waiting period before they can be used. My other cat is insured and up to date on all vaccines etc etc.

Tempranillo · 13/09/2017 10:38

You don't seem very concerned about the poorly kitten.

KityGlitr · 13/09/2017 10:40

Yeah YABU to be fuming.

This is the risk you taking when you purchase an animal. They're not a faulty washing machine you can take back to the shop, they're a living breathing individual and things go wrong. In the future maybe buy from a shelter like RSPCA where you know they've had proper medical checks done rather than some random in the newspaper who's probably just interested in the profit.

He/she is yours now and if you weren't prepared to pay for vet treatment you shouldn't have taken him on. I doubt the previous owners necessarily could have predicted he'd get sick, though wouldnt surprise me if they did and wanted rid asap so as not to eat into their profit.

I hope he or she gets better soon, poor kitty.

blankface · 13/09/2017 10:47

Poor, poor little thing, you sound as though you don't care Sad

He's ill, please take him to the vet and ask them if they know of anyone who would give him a loving home.

achootigersmall · 13/09/2017 10:50

I'm am prepared as he's going vet.
Temp although I am concerned and getting him into vet the fact he's jumping around climbing the curtains, and munching on biscuits tells me, he's not going down hill too fast.
We are a loving home thank you. If I didn't care I'd dump him on rspca doorstep Hmm
What I was annoyed about is the previous owner could of possibly known of a problem but didn't tell me.
Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions.
Anyway again I DO care and he will be getting the best treatment.

Why are you buying a cat and not rehoming one?! Irresponsible. You sound as if you don't give a shit about the poor thing.

BackInTheRoom · 13/09/2017 11:02

Seriously, having a go at the OP? Yeah as much as I'd be worried about my poor kitty, I'd be pretty stressed at the potential vet costs! It can run in to thousands!

hiphopcat · 13/09/2017 11:03

Yeah I am also getting that you care more about the money than the kitten! Shock

I am sure you don't mean to come across like that, but it sounds like it.

If you are SO concerned about the money, then contact whoever sold him to you, to complain, and then take kittie to the vet or cat's home and say you can't cope with him, so the poor mite can be rehomed.

I am literally almost in tears for this little kitten. And I am not one of the rabid obsessives that sometimes come onto animal threads. Sad

Newsflash; HAVING ANIMALS COSTS MONEY! And lots of it sometimes!

hiphopcat · 13/09/2017 11:05

@Bibbidee It's because she is coming across as caring more about the money than the bloody KITTEN, THAT is why people are 'having a go!!!' Angry

achootigersmall · 13/09/2017 11:08

Hiphop dry the tears. I do care. I have a previous thread in 'the litter tray' about introducing him to my other cat, and trying to the best by both of them. Have a look it includes pictures and everything.
I came across wrong, but this whole dramatic 'nearly in tears for this little kitten' is ridiculous.
He IS going vet. He's going to be treated and I pray he's going to be fine!
I love all animals, I nurse mice back to health that my other cat brings in for goodness sake.
The kitten is loved.

hiphopcat · 13/09/2017 11:11

hiphop dry the tears.

WOW. Shock

Okay then.

Well done to you for nursing mice back to health. Hmm Big pat on the back for you.

Words fail me.

I'm out.

And praying for your kitten.

BackInTheRoom · 13/09/2017 11:11

Hiphop, she doesn't sound like that to me. I mean why would you have kittens if you weren't concerned for their welfare? It's the potential costs which is a concern.

achootigersmall · 13/09/2017 11:13

Hiphop I read it as in tears because you think the cat is unloved and I don't care.
If it genuinely because you're worried about him being ill then I apologise. Can you understand why I'm on the defensive though, when people are accusing me of not caring and that I should just rehome a loved pet.

OP posts:
DarceyBusselsNose · 13/09/2017 11:14

Why are you buying a cat and not rehoming one?! Irresponsible.

Best you pop up the maternity ward with a plaquard and tell all the birthing mothers they could have gone and got a baby from a third world country.

BackInTheRoom · 13/09/2017 11:14

Seriously are some of the shouty responses real? I'm not going to stay on this thread because of the extreme emotional responses insinuating you don't care about you cat. Good luck with your kitty OP.

dolcezza99 · 13/09/2017 11:16

Still can't get over the fact that you've bought a kitten. Why haven't you rehomed one of the thousands upon thousands of them stuck in shelters?

DarceyBusselsNose · 13/09/2017 11:16

Have you called the breeder? I would be phoning and asking questions. Did the cat come with paper work for worming and innoculations? Did a vet carry it out?

FatBottomedGal · 13/09/2017 11:18

Best you pop up the maternity ward with a plaquard and tell all the birthing mothers they could have gone and got a baby from a third world country.

It's not quite the same thing - it's well known that there are thousands upon thousands of animals needing homes in this country, yet people still insist on getting them from breeders/ random people. It's so illogical and doesn't help the problem!

ButchyRestingFace · 13/09/2017 11:19

Words fail me. I'm out.

You do sound a touch hysterical so probably for the best.

MrsOverTheRoad · 13/09/2017 11:20

HipHop calm down. You're making yourself look silly.

OP...it's a bit shit I know. But you should call the person you got the cat off in case there's something wrong with the others. :(

Mummyoflittledragon · 13/09/2017 11:21

When I got my dog, he had digestional discomfort and bleeding and I had a hard time finding food that agreed with him because the stuff I'd been told to get by the puppy farmer (yes I was had, I think) breeder gave him an upset stomach. The vet told me it could be the stress. Perhaps it's the same with cats.
