To not be happy at all

A few days ago we picked up a kitten, a very vocal kitten, got him home and we was doing loose poos in his litter tray, put it down to stress of a new home. Today he's pooing mucus and blood. I'm going to have to now take him to the vets, possibly pay 100's of pounds for tests and treatment, all for a cat we've had 4 days.
Aibu to be fuming?
I've had kittens before and apart from the necessary spaying/jabs etc they've been fine!
I didn't expect to buy a poorly cat. Maybe it's a coincidence? Angry
He's fine and happy playing though.
Confused

Do you all really think these sorts of responses are helpful? Do you think they create an environment where people are likely to ask for advice and support, or one which makes people think "I'll just get slated and lectured so why bother?"

alltouchedout · 13/09/2017 11:24

And please spare me the "this is aibu it's brutal Hmm" excuse. If you genuinely care about cats and want people to be good pet owners it doesn't matter if they are asking in aibu, the sorts of responses op is getting are not going to to a damn thing to support responsible pet care.

Actually if he had loose poos and then you wormed him that might have irritated his stomach or bowels.

I think it is generally advised to not feed for a few hours then feed white fish, or chicken which is gentle on his stomach.

If he is bouncing around and still eating and drinking he will probably be ok.

Get the vet to check him then feed him gentle food.

DarceyBusselsNose · 13/09/2017 11:31

Take a step back people.

Some people breed cats to sell. Some people have an accident and their cat escapes and gets knocked up by the local tom and they end up with a box of kittens - generally these end up on Gumtree or the like. Whether you get it from Gumtree or whether you phone up the Cats Protection League - who in my experience expect you to pass sterner criteria than adopting a live human baby from China – the result is the same- a cat has loving home.

So rather than lynching the OP, save your ire for the breeder.

Incidentally, my local pet shop sell kittens, moggies, black and white moggies for £200, ginger ones for £220 and tortoise shell for £260 a pop. Which are ridiculous prices for a moggie. In fairness he keeps them for two weeks, over which time they are assessed by a vet, they are wormed, flea’ed and inoculated and you get all their documentation. Then they go on sale.

WomblingThree · 13/09/2017 11:38

Does the sale of goods act apply to purchased animals? If so, take it back for a refund (and get one from a rescue ffs).

MoosicalDaisy · 13/09/2017 11:40

Some people on here wow...

Could it be down to a change or food, or he might be having a reaction to that food? Is he eating a good quality brand?

peachandplum · 13/09/2017 11:43

I'd care more about the money than the pet but I hate cats

Although If I cared about the animal I'd be worried

Choccyhobnob · 13/09/2017 11:45

Oh goodness, the same thing happened to me years ago. The poor little thing was really unwell and I had to have it put to sleep 3 weeks after I got it, it was heartbreaking and I spent an absolute fortune trying to make him better.

From that day I vowed to only ever rehome cats from the RSPCA/Cats protection etc.

dolcezza99 · 13/09/2017 11:48

So rather than lynching the OP, save your ire for the breeder.

Supply and demand. If people weren't dim and irresponsible enough to buy kittens in the first place, there'd be no business for the breeders.

SlothMama · 13/09/2017 11:51

Just get the kitten to the vet, speak to the breeder and let them know whats happened.
In future find a kitten from a rescue

ForagingForFaerieGold · 13/09/2017 11:52

I second the pp who said it might be the worming tablets. Some of them are pretty toxic. Hope kitty is ok.

RB68 · 13/09/2017 12:14

I have found that worming can sometimes cause a reaction like this especially in v small animals - but vet for registering check up and once over re poorly tum

cherrycola2004 · 13/09/2017 12:35

quite common sadly. he'll be ok. prob needs ABs, worming, vaccinations etc.. also feed him just chicken for a few days. be careful introducing him to older cat, may pass on a bug.

ballestief · 13/09/2017 13:10

Best you pop up the maternity ward with a plaquard and tell all the birthing mothers they could have gone and got a baby from a third world country

Thats both truly fucking offensive on several levels, and not remotely analogous.

SentientCushion · 13/09/2017 16:27

Sounds like worms to me tbh.

Or a dodgy tummy from changing his food too fast.

Take him to the vets but I wouldn't go braying the door of the breeder down yet.

Coffeeandcherrypie · 13/09/2017 16:32

No one happily hands over hundreds of pounds to the vet for a new kitten. It hurts handing over that money and I love my cats.

All the people chastising OP for acting about the money (even thought she is going to pay it) are hypocritical frauds.

Coffeeandcherrypie · 13/09/2017 16:32

Caring not acting
