To think she should take this money back?

I'm so annoyed. I very often give colleagues a lift to and from work. They all contribute to petrol costs. I often end up with £30 or £40 in notes in the drivers arm rest.
They often pop their money straight in there too, so all works well.
This evening, heading home from work one of the ladies I was giving a lift to asked if she could swap some pound coins she had for some of my notes.
Sure, fine, just don't take all the notes I said.
Dropped her off, got home and thought I'd put the coins into my coin jar. Only to find she swapped 3 x £10 notes for £30 in OLD pound coins.

Now I know I have until mid-October to spend them, but AIBU in thinking it was cheeky and she should take them back?

Bit cheeky but I'd rather cringe to death than tell her to take them back. Just spend them.

NotSureIfiAmWell · 12/09/2017 19:39

Sorry but l think that's a bit shity of her

pasturesgreen · 12/09/2017 19:40

Very cheeky, but I don't think I could bring myself to mention it. They're still legal tender, just spend them.

GahBuggerit · 12/09/2017 19:42

But you really shouldn't keep notes on display in your car anyway, someone broke into my mum's car to steal £3.50 that she had on her car seat!

Namechangetempissue · 12/09/2017 19:42

I couldn't get overly worked up about it to be honest. As others said, just spend it. It is still legal tender.

chicaguapa · 12/09/2017 19:42

Yes it was shitty of her to do that. Can you take the old £1 coins to the bank to change them for new ones?

MimsyFluff · 12/09/2017 19:45

Pop £30 in petrol in and pay with the coins and never give her a lift again

Petalflowers · 12/09/2017 19:45

That's definitely out of order, but it may be awkward to ask,to swop back. Also, swooping thirty pound coins, rather old or new is a bit off. From the start of your post, I presumed she'd have a few coins in her purse and wanted to change them. She obviously premeditated her swop, as no one carries thirty pounds of coins around with them. That makes her deed double dastardly.

WineGummyBear · 12/09/2017 19:47

I'd just spend them. Change is always useful.

Cheeky if her though...

GodIsDead · 12/09/2017 19:47

I'd be angry to get £30 in pound coins, old or new. That's just rude.

RollingGreenMarble · 12/09/2017 19:48

Take it to the bank next time youre near?

SuzukiLi · 12/09/2017 19:49

Just go the bank and pay it into your account?

Subtlecheese · 12/09/2017 19:50

Those diy tills quite merrily take coins. You could buy your next shop part in cash and chuck them all in. A pain though.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 12/09/2017 19:55

I saw a coin dealer at a local market was offering 1.20 for each old pound.

DistractedByIrrelevance · 12/09/2017 19:57

I thought you were going to say she swapped £20 in coins for £30 in notes or something. I couldn't care about this.

RedSkyAtNight · 12/09/2017 19:58

I'm always needing change to give the DC for one thing or another so £30 worth of pound coins would be great!

Migraleve · 12/09/2017 19:59

This wouldn't bother me In the slightest. If she had left you £30 in redundant Bank of England pulound notes then I would probably be annoyed, but changing some coins for notes after you said she could? Not a problem at all.

SandyDenny · 12/09/2017 20:00

That's a pretty selfish thing to do, presumably she can't be bothered to take them to the bank.

I'd have to say something even jokingly, she's taking the piss

Iamsoconfused17 · 12/09/2017 20:01

I would make a joke about it next time you see her. Call her up on it without making a big deal

scrabbler3 · 12/09/2017 20:04

It's weird but I wouldn't bother to say anything. Just spend them when you next fill up with petrol - that's what they're for, after all.

demirose87 · 12/09/2017 20:05

Just spend them or swap them at the bank.

Mummyoflittledragon · 12/09/2017 20:08

Rude. I'm sure you weren't expecting that much change. Especially in old coins. You're not a bank.

bimbobaggins · 12/09/2017 20:09

It wouldn't bother me the fact that it's pound coins but old ones would piss me off. To all those saying you wouldn't say anything, why the hell not? Definitely call her up but it doesn't need to be too big a deal.

But apart from that ,a big shout out to your work colleagues who contribute to fuel charges, makes a change from all the threads about cf wanting a free taxi service

hollyisalovelyname · 12/09/2017 20:09

How rude of her.
Taking advantage.
She'd be walking if she did this to me.
I'd subtly not be going her way so couldn't give her a lift.
Disrespectful of her.

Ttbb · 12/09/2017 20:10

Rude but so what-just spend them
