This consistently fills me with the rage. I probably am unreasonably ragey about this.

The PTA rep for my son's class sends a very disinteresting email. Every single person on the list seems to send several email replies, often incredibly entitled replies to the rep (seriously, these people are one step away from a torch waving hate mob about school library books and shit). Fair enough. Why does every single person on the list have to reply all. Why do I have to come home to 20 dreary emails about nothing of any consequence which I have to read.

AIBU to want people to stop using reply all?

YANBU. I can't stand this. Why don't people just reply to the sender rather than boring everyone with their drivel.

Yes, ask the rep to BCC everyone, so that replies don't go to all. No reason to spam everyone.

I hate this at my work. Email gets sent to 200+ in our office about something as dreary as 'please note the south entrance will be close next week for repairs' and you get every tom dick and Harry's response.

OP I think that you mean 'uninteresting', which is completely diferent in meaning to 'disinteresting' which as someone has said isn't really a word.

YANBU! Why can't people use email properly? Hate the idea of Facebook or Twitter or other god awful social media platform full of self obsessed idiots driveling on and preening in selfies to prove their worth... OK it's just not my thing!

So many people have no idea about email etiquette. Failing to use bcc and forwarding other people's email addresses are the two that upset me.

Can you suggest they move over to an online messaging platform such as slack? Really easy to keep messages in different threads and you can get an app. I use it for lots of things (associations, work) and you can turn off notifications too

Our class group is on whatsapp. I've turned off notifications and check it once as day as some days there be literally hundreds of messages.

You really don't. Just hit the delete button.

If you get 200 unnecessary emails a day it is a waste of time, because you need to check it is unnecessary and not actually meant for you and then you have to take time to delete it.

In a work context, idiots REPLYING ALL when they don't need to mark themselves out as utter idiots.

I normally reply to anyone who does this first time politely (and just to them) saying please could you just reply to the sender and not reply all.

I remember one particularly bad incident when an email was sent to probably about 1,000 people on an open distribution list about a work matter. People then started replying ALL which then led to other repeatedly emailing ALL saying "please could you take me off this list. thanks." I must have had about 50 of those.

In a school context yes absolutely.

I get this from our Scouts group..... I rarely ever read the replies from everyone and just read the original email....

Yes it's annoying so you are NBU to wish everyone would stop with the "reply all" but YABU to let it affect you as much.... just delete them.

I've never figured out why class PTA reps exist, and what do they email parents about? We've never had them at our schools.

My dad helps with an after-school club and he's the child safety officer so is very strict about this. It has to be BCC.

Our PTA started a What's App and I agree it's a nightmare. I could never catch up with the literally hundreds of messages being sent in a day. It was crazy!

Ours is done via a closed FB group.

It's specific to DD's year group & can, at times, provide useful nuggets of information. Being on FB also gives you the option of quickly sifting through comments and deciding whether the issue affects you or not.

I often just press "like" to show I've seen something. It doesn't always require actual words Grin.

There are very few overbearing, entitled types at our school though fortunately! Or maybe I just haven't met them yet Wink.

It sounds as though people don't have good email discipline in your class. Suggest that a WhatsApp group is set up (offer to set one up) in the interests of reducing email traffic.

I find our WhatsApp group really handy, particularly if you want to find something out but don't want to email the whole class about it - stuff like "Does anyone know whether X is on tomorrow?" "{Son} has lost his coat. If you have {son}'s coat, please could you let me know?"
