Yoghurtgate- to chew or not

Do you chew yoghurt?

DH and DD do and it drives me loopy. DS and I do not.

Do other people actually chew yoghurt?
(I think dd does purely because DH does!)

I chew, but only a couple of times and then swallow. It's too thick to just swallow straight away and you need to check for lumps.

I think op means a chewing motion that does absolutely nothing (so not actually chewing) rather than chewing a liquid.

No, an actual chewing motion, as Remy describes. Obviously I'm not BU in finding it bizarre.

I'd chew lumps of fruit in it, otherwise it's just a liquid to swallow.

That makes NO SENSE. You can't chew soup and yogurt unless they have big bits in. I am mystified.

I know someone who thinks you should chew hot drinks. You know, because they're hot. Not sure how they get on with yoghurt. (I'll have to ask...)

It's often not chewing, it's bringing your food together into a single bolus ready to swallow, including checking for lumps. The lips cheeks tongue teeth and hard palate all play a role. People do it differently. If you are a soup suckered for example it might need more 'chewing' to bring it together.

I don't bite, it's just my jaw makes some chewing motions if you see what I mean. Unless it is a water like liquid it isn't going down without a "chew". I even chew smoothies sometimes

I chew yoghurt and soup too. Well, it's not chewing exactly, but I don't just put the spoon in my mouth and then swallow the contents down in one smooth motion. It probably is weird now I come to think about it!

Luke- that's interesting about the gag reflex- DD is a very gaggy child.

I'm afraid I just slurp soup/yoghurt down (well, I rarely eat either tbh)
