Yoghurtgate- to chew or not

Do you chew yoghurt?

DH and DD do and it drives me loopy. DS and I do not.

Do other people actually chew yoghurt?
(I think dd does purely because DH does!)

I do, and soup 🙈

RJnomore1 · 09/09/2017 13:38

How can you chew yoghurt?

I mean how is it physically possible?

LoudBatPerson · 09/09/2017 13:38

Chew? It's a liquid. No chewing needed.

Bintang · 09/09/2017 13:39

Yes- rj, you get it!

Honeyboo- why??

OP posts:
SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 09/09/2017 13:39

Erm no. I'm not even sure how you would chew it, to be honest.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/09/2017 13:39

I chew, but only a couple of times and then swallow. It's too thick to just swallow straight away and you need to check for lumps.

InsomniacAnonymous · 09/09/2017 13:39

I don't see how it's possible.

Exactly, loud bat, it doesn't require chewing!

OP posts:
Orangedaisy · 09/09/2017 13:40

DD2 chews it. But she's 6.5 months so probably can't blame her for getting it a bit wrong!

Oysterbabe · 09/09/2017 13:40

How the fuck do you chew a smooth liquid?! LTB.

Remy66 · 09/09/2017 13:40

I think op means a chewing motion that does absolutely nothing (so not actually chewing) rather than chewing a liquid.

Bintang · 09/09/2017 13:40

I wouldn't mind, but DH eats natural yoghurt, so there aren't even any fruit pieces! Confused

OP posts:
MaisieDotes · 09/09/2017 13:41

What. How can you chew yoghurt or soup?

If you mean "slosh it about in your mouth" then ew.

Bintang · 09/09/2017 13:42

No, an actual chewing motion, as Remy describes. Obviously I'm not BU in finding it bizarre.

OP posts:
SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 09/09/2017 13:43

I'd chew lumps of fruit in it, otherwise it's just a liquid to swallow.

EduCated · 09/09/2017 13:44

I am genuinely baffled. How do you chew liquid? Are they just bashing their teeth together a few times? I DON'T UNDERSTAND

GinIsIn · 09/09/2017 13:45

That makes NO SENSE. You can't chew soup and yogurt unless they have big bits in. I am mystified.

PomCuter · 09/09/2017 13:48

I know someone who thinks you should chew hot drinks. You know, because they're hot. Not sure how they get on with yoghurt. (I'll have to ask...)

Lukeandlorelai4Ever · 09/09/2017 13:48

I also chew yogurt and soupBlush I do have a gagging reflex so maybe something to do with that

annandale · 09/09/2017 13:49

It's often not chewing, it's bringing your food together into a single bolus ready to swallow, including checking for lumps. The lips cheeks tongue teeth and hard palate all play a role. People do it differently. If you are a soup suckered for example it might need more 'chewing' to bring it together.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/09/2017 13:50

I don't bite, it's just my jaw makes some chewing motions if you see what I mean. Unless it is a water like liquid it isn't going down without a "chew". I even chew smoothies sometimes

OnlyRose · 09/09/2017 13:52

I chew yoghurt and soup too. Well, it's not chewing exactly, but I don't just put the spoon in my mouth and then swallow the contents down in one smooth motion. It probably is weird now I come to think about it!

Bintang · 09/09/2017 13:56

Luke- that's interesting about the gag reflex- DD is a very gaggy child.
Annandale- thank you, that's very interesting too.
I'm afraid I just slurp soup/yoghurt down (well, I rarely eat either tbh)

Oh god - that would make me murderous.
