To fucking hate BMW

Bought a new car. Has been broken into four times. FOUR. No sign of damage and thousands of pounds worth of stuff taken.

I called them this morning and they say they can't do anything and it's a police matter (police don't care as am sure they have better things to do). They were just so unhelpful and only offered me their sympathies. Hmm

AIBU to expect a new (and not cheap) car to be secure?!!!!

They've cloned the key or key fob somehow. Is it one of the keyless ones? What have the police said?

YetAnotherNC2017 · 09/09/2017 12:43

Ugh how frustrating Flowers

Where is the car kept when it's being broken into? If it's a smashed window then frankly there's fuck all BMW can do, you just have to hide it out of the way.

I hate BMW too though, the car is lovely but god it attracts some negative attention. I can't wait to get rid and get a nice, sensible, low key ford!

YetAnotherNC2017 · 09/09/2017 12:43

Oh sorry - just read no sign of damage.

Even more frustrating!

Fruitboxjury · 09/09/2017 12:49

Why would you leave thousands of pounds of stuff in your car, especially if it had been broken into once already?

What's being taken and are the break ins in same place (so the thieves keep coming back for more)?

We've had 3 BMWs including two M series and have never had a problem. I would probably have my keys recoded if I were you, and install cctv if it's happening at home.

OhOfCourse · 09/09/2017 13:04

Thanks @Fruitboxjury that was a useful question Hmm they took thousands of pounds of stuff in the first hit. Small stuff in subsequent.

TBH surely I should've able to keep stuff in my car without being fearful of it getting broken into? Would you say that if it was my house?

Happening in different places.

Sadly you can have nothing decent it seems. Thriving arsehole bastards descend in their droves to steal it.

RonSwansonsMoustache · 09/09/2017 13:07

I do think leaving expensive stuff in plain sight in a car is a bad idea, tbh. Not that it's your fault it got broken into, but people are more likely to break in when they know there's something with taking.

How are they doing it? Is it one of this keys that will open any BMW within a 10 metre radius or similar?

Orangebird69 · 09/09/2017 13:10

If your stuff is on display then more fool you. However, I actually had a bmw stolen from a driveway, in the night. No alarm went off, no glass smashed. It's relatively east for professional thieves to replicate/program key fobs. Luckily, my car was found with no damage. But I'd never get a bmw again. Is it a keyless entry model?

BMW6 · 09/09/2017 13:26

I saw the thread title and I thought "what have I done now? Blush"

OhOfCourse · 09/09/2017 13:33

DID I SAY I LEFT VALUABLE STUFF IN SIGHT? Who the fuck does that?!

@BMW6 you genuinely turned this frown upside down! Thank you xx

DID I SAY I LEFT VALUABLE STUFF IN SIGHT? Who the fuck does that?!

Surprisingly - lots of people. I've known people leave handbags, purses, tablets, laptops etc. in the front seat of their cars.

Why did you have thousands of pounds worth of stuff left in your car? I always lock my car but I don't think they're especially secure places to leave valuables. Opportunist thieves are more likely to go for cars than houses - less likelihood of getting caught.

Bluntness100 · 09/09/2017 13:47

What have the police said? How are the thieves getting in . It's fairly unusual to have your car broken into four times with no damage and thousands of pounds worth of stuff stolen that wasn't in view and all in different locations.

What type of BMW is it and what age? I've had three different bmws and never had any security issues, they were very secure.

OhOfCourse · 09/09/2017 13:50

New car.

Thanks for the victim blaming. I actually feel like crying although not sure why. It's only stuff.

PoisonousSmurf · 09/09/2017 13:50

Keep the key in a metal tin. That should stop them.

OhOfCourse · 09/09/2017 13:51

Police just ask me to log online and then I get an immediate email saying they'll close the case unless I get some evidence.

OP posts:
Tasteslikecandy · 09/09/2017 13:58

Sorry it's happened to you OhOfCourse. You just don't expect it to happen to you, especially not 4 times. Unfortunately we are at a time where there is a bigger gap between the haves and have nots so crime rates are going up.

Touch wood it hasn't happened to us but I live in a city where it happens frequently.

RonSwansonsMoustache · 09/09/2017 14:02

I don't think it's victim blaming to say leaving valuables in a car is a bad idea. There's a reason police encourage you to hide valuables out of plain sight.

PoisonousSmurf · 09/09/2017 14:05

Keyless entry is the stupidest invention ever! My car is a 2005 Mazda but I get problems with not being able to open or close it with the fob if my doorbell (on the house) is being pressed at the same time.
Give me good old fashioned keys any day.

OhOfCourse · 09/09/2017 14:07

@RonSwansonsMoustache they were our I'd plain sight. Thanks.

And to be honest the latest theft of my gym kit and trainers is just bloody pathetic.

OP I feel your pain - my passenger window was smashed for the sake of a bag of pick and fucking mix and a CD. I would rather they had asked me for 10 quid to buy their own than leave me with a huge bill and a 3 hour drive with a bin bag over the window.

I still have the rage now.

Keyless entry does seem to a bit flawed. Makes me glad to have a 10 year old banger. Smile

Westworld · 09/09/2017 14:21

OP this seems really strange ... especially when you mention gym kit being taken....is there any chance someone close to you who has access to your keys somehow is doing this as some sort of personal vendetta? What about getting a dash cam?

OhOfCourse · 09/09/2017 14:23

@Westworld interesting you say that as that's what BMW suggested
