To wear the same outfit everyday

Obviously not literally the same outfit or I would stink.

I'm seriously considering just buying a 10 tops (work or casual), 3 pairs of jeans and three pairs of work trousers. (Would have to be 10 jumpers for winter, t shirts for summer).
And just wearing the same outfit each day. I've never been much of a one for fashion and this would make life so simple.

Would have to have the odd different outfit for special occasions but there's not many of those.

Would people think I'm bonkers if they see me in exactly the same outfit each day?

I work in a school and I have five pairs of black trousers and a selection of plain t shirts. In the winter I might take a cardi, but as long as the heating is on, t shirts are usually still sufficient. Makes life so much easier. I also don't have to worry about buying clothes that 'go', since pretty much anything 'goes'with black.

Acornantics · 09/09/2017 14:05

I wear the same-ish stuff to work every day: navy or black trousers in cigarette and wide leg, a white tshirt with either a navy or black/cream jacket and flat ballet pumps in red or bronze/gold. Occasionally i wear a black jersey dress with opaques.

Makes life SO much easier and planning what to wear much quicker. And I can have gun with my non-work wardrobe.

Acornantics · 09/09/2017 14:07

Fun not gun obvsSmile

FinallyHere · 09/09/2017 14:39

Slimthistime sigh, 😐

Slimthistime · 09/09/2017 14:44

Acornantics, your wardrobe sounds like my idea of hard work. I mean, great that you like it, but different styles of trouser...ooh no. Then you get into what shoes, socks etc. ooh no Grin

SuddenBeetE · 09/09/2017 15:04

I do this! My DM tells me it's boring but I'm up and 'ready' for the day in no time as a result. No one else has ever noticed or mentioned.

5 pairs of the same jeans in different colours (1 black, 1 dark rinse, 1 grey, 2 mid blue denim)

5 jumpers in similar shapes different colours
(2 grey, 1 real, 1 hot pink, 1 navy)

3 identical black tshirts

M&S vests for under jumpers in grey white navy x9

Brittbugs80 · 09/09/2017 15:25

different colour accessories every day I rember Tuesday was yellow

This reminds me of a girl I used to work with, but she wore eyeshadow everyday. You could tell her mood from her eyeshadow. If she was in a bad mood, she had dark colour on and happy and good.mood, she wore lighter colours.

It was a long day at work when she had black eye shadow on!

I'm going back to work in a week, after years of being a SAHP. I'm doing something similar.

I have bought the same cardigan in black, navy and tan. I'm another who doesn't look great in trousers, and it's a smart casual dress code so I have the same pair of skinny jeans in blue denim, khaki and tan. Two pairs of the same black trousers.
One nice white shirt, one white jumper. The same jersey dress in navy and khaki, the same top in a variety of colours, etc...

I already have four pairs of the same ankle boots that I adore, in various colours.

I'm planning on sorting out the rest of my floordrobe clothes and getting rid of anything that doesn't fit into my work theme, and starting a similar theme of dresses/tunics/leggings for the weekend.

Standandwait · 09/09/2017 15:33

I have a huge wardrobe and I still basically wear the same black jeans every day.

Liiinoo · 09/09/2017 15:42

I had a boyfriend who did exactly this. He bought an outfit he loved (navy Wrangler cords and a Levi denim shirt with poppers instead of buttons). He liked the look of it so much that from the age of 18-22 (when we split up) that's all he wore (apart from a smart suit for weddings and funerals). HE had half a dozen of each on the go at any given point in time and would buy a new set every 3/4 months. Then the new ones would become his 'best' clothes and the older ones would get downgraded to pub/staying in /diy etc until they eventually disintegrated.

I wonder what he is wearing now? He was very good looking back then but his family had a tendency to go bald as a coot quite young. wanders off down memory lane

Secondary teacher here:

Black trousers
Grey trousers
Black skirt
Grey skirt
A range of jersey tops from Debenhams in different colours/patterns

Cardigans to throw over the top when chilly

Job done

NorksAkimbo72 · 09/09/2017 19:42

Yep...i just went back to work recently, and had to buy a whole new work wardrobe...2 pairs of black and navy trousers, and I found a blouse I loved the style of so bought it in every colour(so 6 in total). Also bought 2 dresses in the same style different colours, so that's my work stuff sorted now. It's so much easier, and though 6 tops is quite a lot, if one gets mucked up, I still have spares!

daisychain01 · 09/09/2017 21:41

I have 2 baskets in my wardrobe with about eeeek 50+ scarves which turn my 'uniform' of black, navy or dark brown jersey trousers and plain/patterned jersey tops into completely different outfits.

People at work think I have lots of clothes, but they don't realise I rotate my trouser colour every day so the themes become either rustics, greys or bold tones because of trouser/scarf combo.

Once every few months I replace the trousers, but Marks and Spencer have started doing a StayNew finish so they don't pill or go shiny, and they cost < £20 a pair.

Millybingbong · 09/09/2017 22:08

A lot of people have given examples of the that are just.... not.

More that about 4 pairs of trousers (including same trouser different colour) is more options. And more thinking at get dressed time.

dudsville · 09/09/2017 22:13

I do this. My variations are in prints on shirts, and the cut of trousers for the bigger time of month. I can get dressed in a few minutes and be confident in my choice.

StrawberrySquash · 10/09/2017 00:19

My friend's husband just takes the top t-shirt off the pile each day. Every so often she turns the pile over so she gets to see a bit of variety.

I have a load of dresses. Shove one on. Add tights to match and a cardigan. Doesn't take any brain work if I CBA. But I still get to wear different things.

woodhill · 10/09/2017 10:30

I tend to do this but sometimes the long sleeved tops don't wash well and look misshapen or I always seem to get a mark on the white ones.

I sometimes wear skirts too. Trouble is lengths change and necklines etc and somehow things don't look right together

SabineUndine · 10/09/2017 10:39

I've got 3 pairs of navy trousers, 2 pairs black, two navy cardigans, one black, assorted shirts and tunics. I wear them day in day out at work.

winkywinkybumbum · 10/09/2017 21:57

Place marking to get ideas.

off to look at M&S for good trousers

fia101 · 10/09/2017 23:41

At the moment I have 4 boden dresses in the same style but different colours. Wear a different one everyday and keep a smart black jacket at work in case of meetings. Have a different style boden dress for day 5.

Makes morning way easier and the dresses don't always need ironed and aren't static like some suits I wear. They are really smart dresses but I do feel embarrassed sometimes...though not enough to stop wearing them.

One colleague came up to me in the loos and randomly said the navy one was her favourite ...so it has been noted.

Will switch styles at Christmas in sales.

Fia101

For a brief period I worked with my SIL. It did not go well and eventually I bowed out (that is a whole thread in itself and one I don't have the stamina to post yet). Anyway, despite the horrible dynamics of us working together she taught me a very valuable trick. If your outfit is staticy or clingy rub some hand or body option into your hands and then rub the residue over your tights. Instant de-stat and your outfits will look great.

oldlaundbooth · 11/09/2017 00:37

It's a good idea.

I think I might do it with meals too! Eat the same seven dinners each week.

abitoflight · 11/09/2017 00:39

I did it with meals on a fortnight rota mon to thurs
No one noticed

ChickenVindaloo2 · 11/09/2017 19:27

Like Sheldon on the big bang theory...he wears the same PJs on the same nights and eats the same meals on a rota.

Frees up a lot of mental energy.

BarbaraofSevillle · 11/09/2017 19:42

Albert Einstein was reported to wear the same suit/shirt combo every day although googling suggests that this has been exagerated but there is some truth in it. But anyway, its the Science of Simplicity apparently.
