To wear the same outfit everyday

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 09/09/2017 10:08

Obviously not literally the same outfit or I would stink.

I'm seriously considering just buying a 10 tops (work or casual), 3 pairs of jeans and three pairs of work trousers. (Would have to be 10 jumpers for winter, t shirts for summer).
And just wearing the same outfit each day. I've never been much of a one for fashion and this would make life so simple.

Would have to have the odd different outfit for special occasions but there's not many of those.

Would people think I'm bonkers if they see me in exactly the same outfit each day?

I sort of do this. Dresses and black tights everyday for work. It's just one less thing to think about. Works for me.

Helena333 · 09/09/2017 11:58

As long as they're different colours, otherwise it's going to look a bit bonkers, if you look the same every single day .

Lucked · 09/09/2017 11:59

Personally I would buy some different colours of the same top. What colour top do you plan to wear?

Helena333 · 09/09/2017 12:00

@onelongsabbatical

I think Merkel is the Mistress of this high art. Another reason to admire the woman.

Yeah I don't admire Merkel.. Hmm

Not one bit.

Maskoff · 09/09/2017 12:00

No issue with this

AdoraBell · 09/09/2017 12:02

If it works for you then do it. It can save a lot of time and head space that would have been spent deciding what to wear and looking for an item you thought was in the wardrobe.

It was one thing I did like about the jobs where I had a uniform.

TvTan · 09/09/2017 12:04

This is me. Every day when it is just me and DD I wear a black vest top, black leggings and a black cardigan. I have multiples of each in slightly diff styles.
I do worry people think I only have one set of clothes, but I am beyond caring. No way am I getting my nice stuff covered in paint and playdoh. Also, skinny jeans are hard to bend and kneel in.
It's nice to wear my good stuff when we go out somewhere not playgroups. I do get slightly odd comments about me looking so different if I dare to wear a red jumper.

TSSDNCOP · 09/09/2017 12:05

I do it. I work at home and like to be comfortable but "dressed" so I can pop out, do the school run etc.

Uniqlo is my friend, I have several pairs of their jeggings and Breton tops, merino jumpers and that's what I wear Monday-Friday. Cheap as chips, no thought needed.

SheilaHammond · 09/09/2017 12:08

I do this because I hate choosing and shopping for clothes (also work in a school so have to be smart but mega practical).

I like jewel colours so have plain grey, navy, and black tunic style dresses with bright pink/green/blue smart cardigans that are fitted shape. Everything goes with everything.

Need to be smarter for parents' evening/Carol service? Smart heels, smart bag, silk scarf, black or navy jacket.

planetclom · 09/09/2017 12:10

I think this is what everyone does it's not a radical idea most of us grow out of fashion by our late teens early 20's so stop buying throw away fashion. The strange ones are those who won't wear the same thing twice I tend to see these people on shows about saving money

WorknameJimEllis · 09/09/2017 12:13

I do this. The only hard part is finding 6 of any one item that is the perfect fit and survives being washed.

I am not stylish and I don't intend to waste any time thinking about clothes. Tons of admiration for anyone that does, but it's not for me.

MaisyPops · 09/09/2017 12:16

I find I'm gravitating towards a more capsule wardrobe after years of hoarding clothes and not really having consistent style that's 'me'.

Now i tend to wear black, cream, white, grey, navy and tan almost all yhe time at work. And the out of work swap black for jeans.

PollyFlint · 09/09/2017 12:21

Yes, it's absolutely fine to do this and I don't think people will think it's weird - I think a lot of women actually do this in varying degrees. I'd quite like to give it a try myself.

PigletJohn · 09/09/2017 12:40

A man who wears a suit to work does not do this.

The minimum reasonable is two suits and two pairs of shoes, so they can hang up (preferably in the bathroom where they will get steamed and hang to shape) for a day before being worn again, and in most cases, not the same colour and style. It's bad form to wear the same day after day and would prompt hygiene comments. Most suits are not washable and have to go to the cleaners (maybe on Naked Friday).

Depending on the industry, some wear white shirts exclusively, others wear coloured.

Ties accumulate over time.

Very few suited men can afford a wardrobe full of identical suits and shirts.

TheGoodWife16 · 09/09/2017 12:43

I have 6 short sleeve tops of an identical style but different colours, plus 4 jumpers, again the same but different.

My reasons for doing this are slightly different in that I have a medical condition that makes finding comfortable tops extremely difficult and when I do find something, I've learnt to multi-buy (all of the colours, in all of the sizes - Maureen Lipman, for those old enough to know what I'm on about!).

It certainly makes life easier for me!

Lilymoose · 09/09/2017 12:56

I'm glad I wear a uniform for work as don't have to think about this (do have to iron it though unfortunately).

BarbaraofSevillle · 09/09/2017 12:56

I disagree PigletJohn M&S (other shops may be available) sell a wide range of perfectly smart and serviceable machine washable suits that would be affordable for most office working men to have a couple of jackets and five pairs of trousers or whatever, plus shirts and ties.

www.marksandspencer.com/l/men/mens-suits/machine-washable-suits-n-bzvuc

I've used the women's version for years (both trouser suit and dress/jacket combo) to wear on smart office days and presenting at national and even international conferences and no-one thinks it's not suitable and believe me my very smart and stylish (female if it matters) department head would and does say something if she notices that someone is not smart or clean/tidy enough when 'out in public'.

Of course the type of industry where M&S is not considered acceptable tends to pay much more than average so Savile Row or whatever would probably still be affordable.

PurplePillowCase · 09/09/2017 13:01

piglet
but those suits are still 'uniform' and don't require much thought of what shirt goes with what.

FinallyHere · 09/09/2017 13:24

I do this, two pairs of trousers, about ten tops, i alternate the trousers and pick the next top from the rail. Weather appropriate jacket and I'm away. Saves any decision making in the morning. Why would you work out a new 'outfit' every day?

It also frees up money (no wasted purchases) but this year I am a bit scuppered. I usually buy the same brand/style trousers in similar colours each year. This year, my preferred chino style jeans have gone 'skinny' and I am really struggling to find a replacement. I'm seriously thinking of some personal shopping style help, would love to be recommended someone who would take this seriously as a personal shopper. Two pairs, and a couple if pairs of stylish, comfortable shoes to go with them and I would be sorted.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 09/09/2017 13:24

I do this.

I don't really wear skirts or dresses as I have really chunky legs so I just have various pairs of dark trousers which I wear with coloured tops - tunics in summer, tshirt & cardigan in winter

I cba changing my jewellery every day either so I tend to have the same (silver or gold) necklace, studs and bracelet on all week.

VinoTime · 09/09/2017 13:42

I kind of do this now having done a massive de-clutter a wee while back. I was utterly ashamed of how many clothes/shoes/bags I owned that I never wore or used. I laid everything out on the bed and separated the things I wore all the time and the things I never looked at, and started to get a sense of where I was going so wrong.

When it comes to tops I work in 8's, so that I have a full weeks worth plus one extra come laundry day. I don't follow trends as I think they generate too much waste, so I stick to styles that don't blow in or out like the wind, and I separate each set of 8 according to the season. I replace as and when I need to and stay well clear of shops to avoid temptation. I have a storage box on top of the wardrobe where I keep summer/holiday clothes (swimwear, dresses, skirts, etc.) that only really get looked at for 2 weeks of the year when we go away. Again, they're pretty standard styles that can easily be recycled each year without being seen as 'untrendy'.

For everyday wear, I have:

2 x skinny jeans
2 x bootcut jeans
3 x black leggings
3 x autumn/winter skirts I can wear with tights
3 x spring/summer skirts
8 x long or three quarter sleeve tops (autumn)
8 x jumpers (winter)
8 x short sleeved floaty tops (spring & summer)
8 x vest tops that I layer underneath my tops and jumpers in the colder months to keep warm! Grin

Like TSS I work from home but like to get sorted for the day so that I can run in and out and take DD to school. It's wonderfully freeing to just get up in the mornings and not worry about what to wear. The styles and colours I choose are similar, they suit my size and shape and I never panic about looking bad, because I know I suit everything in the wardrobe and it all pairs well Smile

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 09/09/2017 13:44

I think this is what everyone does it's not a radical idea most of us grow out of fashion by our late teens early 20's so stop buying throw away fashion.

I disagree, lots of people enjoy wearing a wide range of outfits for many different reasons, it doesn't mean they are buying throwaway fashion (although there is nothing wrong with following trends if that's what you want).

I may be wrong but it comes across as if you think fashion/clothes isn't something a mature adult should be interested in.

TheSparrowhawk · 09/09/2017 13:47

While I think it's a great idea, I can't do it. I have a particular 'stylish' so it takes me time to find things I like but when I do I wear things over and over till they fall apart. I have a wide range of clothes - skirts, dresses, jeans, suits - and I like choosing what to wear and having a range of things to choose from. Wearing the same thing every day would make me feel meh. I'm not at all in to 'fashion' - I just search for things that I really like.

TheSparrowhawk · 09/09/2017 13:48

A particular 'style' fucking autocorrect

Slimthistime · 09/09/2017 13:50

Finally "This year, my preferred chino style jeans have gone 'skinny' and I am really struggling to find a replacement."

this is a total nightmare. Luckily I bought 4 pairs of jeans the last time I found some that suited, I would be so scuppered if I tried to shop now. Freaking every jeans or trousers cut is designed for people with tiny thighs and ass.
