To think about reporting DPD driver?

This morning I was tailgated and then overtaken by a DUP van whilst driving through a village on the way into town. I was going 30 miles an hour. The driver didn't get far and then they did the same to someone else. It was ahead of me going into town and then I saw it drive through two red lights. One was v brazen, as it had stopped at the light, got fed up of waiting and the drove through.
Would you report? (I hate tailgating) or would you think driver was under pressure (not sure how they get paid). Is it petty to report?

DPD van!

There's no point in reporting. There's no magic database that some posters may suggest the driver will be added to.

Assuming you don't have any evidence, it's a waste of time and energy.

YerTiz · 05/09/2017 16:51

I would report it to DPD as it reflects badly on them. The driver probably is under pressure but dangerous driving isn't the solution.

Pickleypickles · 05/09/2017 16:52

schmaby Surely they should know who was in that area at that time though and if they have lots of regular complaints about the same guy they would discipline him? Did you get his reg? I would definately report if you gor his reg

Bluntness100 · 05/09/2017 16:54

They do get under pressure to deliver within certain windows and are monitored as they go round their routes, you can track them on line yourself when expecting a parcel. I'd let it go. It's not ok, but I really don't think trying to get them into trouble or fired is the answer.

GreenShadow · 05/09/2017 16:55

I've reported bad driving by lorries and vans before.
Once I got no reply and once the company denied any of their drivers were in the area. Well one of their vans certainly was...

Auspiciouspanda · 05/09/2017 16:56

Report to DPD, at my work the van drivers are a rep of the company and any bad/ aggressive driving is a sackable offence.

Might not get the same reaction from DPD though as I'm guessing all the drivers are self employed.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 05/09/2017 16:57

I reported a Tesco driver in a massive lorry, who drove across a mini roundabout nearly taking out my car and it was my rifhtvof way. He also mouthed something at me. Tesco said that they use a lot of agency drivers, but they tracked him down and reprimanded him. Not massive in the scheme of things, but perhaps ifcpeipke did complain more when van drivers do dickish things, it might eventually sink in.

I confronted a lorry driver who was tailgating me. It wasn't long after I'd been rear ended and it made me nervous having him so close behind.

babyschmaby · 05/09/2017 16:59

Pickleypickles

No. You need proof and complaints aren't proof. Even depending on balance of probability is likely to open a huge can of HR worms.

Besides which, how many people do you think are about to complain about this driver?

Remember, the OP could simply be a disgruntled ex. What do you think the company should do?

Theworldisfullofidiots · 05/09/2017 17:05

I'm not a disgruntled ex! And I don't want to get anyone sacked. Just hate rude and aggressive driving. And actually reckless going through red lights on a town centre ring road.

OP posts:
babyschmaby · 05/09/2017 17:15

I didn't think you were. I was trying to suggest that you could be, for all the company knows.

crazycatgal · 05/09/2017 17:23

I would complain. A driver who worked for my DF was reported more than once for driving down the hard shoulder, he was sacked for repeated dangerous driving in the company van.

InvisibleLlama · 05/09/2017 17:33

If it was a DUP driver I would definitely report them, but my DPD drivers are lovely (and give our dogs biscuits) and I know they get a tiny amount for each parcel they deliver - I seem to remember 67p?? So I'm not surprised they are in a hurry. Imagine getting that kind of pay and having a family to support. It's not right, but it's how it is.

Theworldisfullofidiots · 05/09/2017 17:38

I wondered if that was the case invisibleLlama. So root cause is crap money and reporting to DPD won't help that then?
Now if it was a DUP driver.....

I feel sorry for the DPD Drivers, they're given stupid amounts of pick ups and deliveries in a day.

We use them at work and we've lost several to health conditions they've acquired on the job :(

MipMipMip · 05/09/2017 17:59

Report it to DPD. We did once with another company and the owner was horrified at the behaviour -very grateful to us for letting him know.

Zubba · 05/09/2017 18:02

"Surely they should know who was in that area at that time though"

Not likely, there are loads of DPD vans round these parts, complaining about one would be futile unless there were Reg plates or other notable differences involved.

Theworldisfullofidiots · 05/09/2017 18:25

I do have the reg plate (v good memory) but think I won't report given what some other posters have said.

ImDoingLaundry · 05/09/2017 19:11

A crap wage is no excuse for dangerous driving though. Of course the company should pay them better but if they're driving recklessly and putting others at risk, as well as themselves.

If you have no proof (I.e. Dash cam) then I'd report the event, reg, and date/time to DPD. If enough people start reporting then the companies will start to see patterns and explore the reasons why their drivers are doing this.

Seeing the consequences of dangerous driving has made me so angry towards anyone that does it.

hula008 · 05/09/2017 19:36

If you work for John Lewis you could get strikes against you if someone reports you. Obviously they are aware of false reporting but they would rather take that chance than have people devaluing the brand name.

At approximately 14:20 on Saturday 20th April, 2019 (Easter Saturday) my son was driving in Cumbria between Burton-in-Kendal and Crooklands on the A6070 which is a bendy road.

A DPD delivery driver (CX68DPE) was tailgating the vehicle behind us and when this vehicle turned off CX68DPE came up speeding right behind us and then tailgated us for several miles. The driver couldn’t pass and got so close we couldn’t see his registration. He was trying to intimidate us for not going as fast as he wanted as we were doing between 45 and 50 generally and vehicles the other way weren’t going any faster.

As we waited at the roundabout at the junction with the A65 this driver made abusive comments about us as we had the roof down and could hear him swearing with frustration.

After this roundabout he continued to tailgate us and as we turned into The Crooklands Hotel on the right he hurled a lot of foul abuse at us as he passed to our left.
He may have wanted to have gone faster but other motorists have rights too. Like other motorists on the road we were taking the A6070 at a safe and peaceful pace, not aggressively and impatiently like him.

The way he was towards us was totally unacceptable. It is more about his intimidation and foul comments he aimed at us as ones like him on the road lead to an increase in accidents.

I got in touch electronically with DPD and got the following reply:

We've got your email!
Thanks for getting in touch with us. The Consumer team have got your email and will get straight onto it.
We're here Monday to Friday 07.00 until 20.00 and on Saturday from 08.00 until 18.30 and Sunday 08:00 until 16:00 and you'll have our response within twenty four hours.
Many thanks,
The DPD Consumer Team

Hello,
Thank you for your email.
Unfortunately, I cannot retrieve any parcel information with the details provided by you.
I request you to help me with the following to help you better;

  1. Parcel/Consignment Number
  2. 1st line of address with the post code. Waiting for your swift response. Regards, Arjun Bhatia

I have never had such a stupid reply as this as it is nothing to do with the delivery of a package but the conduct of the driver.

PregnantSea · 24/04/2019 15:39

Speaking as someone who was smashed into side on by an idiot running a red light I would say please do report. Even if they can't prove it and they just ask the driver about it then it may put them off doing it again in the future.

ArmsFolded · 04/05/2019 10:17

I’ve sent a complaint by recorded delivery to their head office in Smethwick but they haven’t acknowledged or answered. It was signed upon delivery by someone identified as “Tank”. The head office team are just as arrogant as drivers are dangerous. If they don’t answer and apologise there will be more publicity posted on other websites about the negative attitudes within DPD, and I might even get some material printed to leave in places.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 04/05/2019 10:30

Sorry, irrelevant I know, but I'm sitting here chuckling at the idea of being tailgated by a van full of DUP members. 😄
