To ask if any of you have had teeth whitened?

I've been wondering about professional teeth whitening, my teeth are not horribly yellow but I'd like them to be a bit whiter, although maybe not Hollywood glow in the dark style.
Have any of you had it done? Were you please with the results? What was the process like?

I don't want to phone up places that do it until I have a bit more of an idea as I don't want them to just sell me the dream!!

Yes by laser. Severe pain.
it worked though and turned back the clock a few years.

MissionItsPossible · 05/09/2017 14:32

Could you try a professional home whitening kit? I had a mould made of my teeth and then bought this www.philips.co.uk/c-p/DIS613_02/zoom-nitewhite-take-home-whitening-treatment

I personally didn't think the results were noticable but I got a LOT of comments on them from people so it must have been too gradual for me to notice but other people could. I used it for about 6 or 7 months then fell out of routine but I still have it. Despite what the packaging says I didn't leave them in overnight, just did two or three 45 minute sessions a day (my sister is a dental nurse and said this was just as effective). The only downside is what are known as 'zingers'. The pain!! (It's not that bad really).

scrabbler3 · 05/09/2017 14:33

Laser. It was sore at the time but highly effective and long lasting.

Whitening strips gave me a fast (but fleeting) small improvement. I now use them occasionally if I'm going out or have an important meeting. I think the brand is Colgate.

domesticgoddesshaha · 05/09/2017 14:38

Eek newt I didn't know it could be painful!

My friend had it done and was very pleased with it, really felt it was worth it despite the high cost.

I couldn't see any difference at all

BalconyBunting · 05/09/2017 14:40

My husband and I got moulds made at the dentist and put a peroxide gel in the moulds and wear overnight. You can buy the gel at the dentist. The moulds cost £300. It was worth every penny as the difference is huge and as you only wear them for 2 weeks at first then top up when necessary (i only need to wear it for a couple of days a year now), there is very little sensitivity. Myself and my husband didn't experience any pain. I'd really recommend it. I wouldn't go for laser myself as that is too harsh and can cause pain.

domesticgoddesshaha · 05/09/2017 14:41

mission I thought about it but I saw some thing on TV once where they tested home kits and most didn't have enough active ingredient to work, so was unsure how to go about choosing a good one.

I did it through the dentist and the results were good although my teeth were a bit sensitive.

domesticgoddesshaha · 05/09/2017 14:43

balcony that sounds better, I will look into that option. Still sounds expensive just for the mould. side eyes plasticine and wonders if it would work

Dh and I both had laser treatment, I also had the mounds and peroxide gel. Dh had really severe pain after his treatment and I had almost none. I only really got noticeable benefit from the mounds and still have them 10years on need to top up.

I was supposed to sleep with them in but couldn't tolerate the feeling of them there so I was given a higher concentrate of gel to use for 45 minutes which was much better. It does freshen up your face.

domesticgoddesshaha · 05/09/2017 14:45

Is the sensitive teeth thing permanent? I already have sensitive teeth and don't want to make it worse.

Haha matilda my face needs a good freshen up with two preschool age kids!

I had laser whitening done for my wedding and I kid you not it was one of the most painful experiences of my life. I went to a different dentist as mine did not offer it. The appointment was a day or two after an appointment with the hygienist which I think exacerbated the problem. I was subsequently told that I shouldn't have had it done so soon after but clearly had no idea of this at the time and wasn't asked. The results were ok but I wouldn't risk that method myself personally

RolandDeschain · 05/09/2017 14:48

I use Crest whitening strips. They work really well, used the full length treatment the first time then I've topped up with a shorter treatment about once per year over the past few years. Some sensitivity at the time but it goes a couple of days after finishing.

mimiholls · 05/09/2017 14:49

I had the molds and the at home gel too. The benefit being you can do it again when you like for no cost. No pain whatsoever. Definitely worth it, my teeth are not bright white but they look a normal white colour which was not originally their natural colour no matter how well i kept them.

SpiritedLondon · 05/09/2017 14:49

Ps I wasn't told it could be painful.

Downtheroadfirstonleft · 05/09/2017 15:32

I had mine done by my dentist.

No pain and a great, but natural result. I have to top it up every now and then, but that's because I drink coffee and red wine!

jeaux90 · 05/09/2017 15:35

Dentists used the Zoom method. Really happy with the results. Painless.

Ollivander84 · 05/09/2017 15:36

Yes, I had zoom in the chair plus trays to take home, I buy the gel from the dentist to top up. Very happy and they look natural

sanasa · 05/09/2017 15:39

I have had my laser whitened.
It was the most painful thing ever. I had to get her to stop. I still struggle with sensitivity now.
The only person who should touch your teeth is a dentist.

HiJenny35 · 05/09/2017 15:43

Yes same as balcony, 10 years ago, still look much whiter than than did, so happy with it and I hated my teeth before. Did make my gums very sore for the weeks while I was doing it but settled down afterwards.

FlavaFlav · 05/09/2017 15:43

I'm booked in for Enlighten next week. I am a bit scared after reading this but no lasers involved, just the trays. Any one had Enlighten done?

Bambamber · 05/09/2017 15:46

I had mine done with my dentits and love the results. Got some moulds and gel to use at home for 2 weeks, although I didn't do the full 2 weeks as I didn't want my teeth to go too white. My teeth were sensitive during the treatment, but returned to normal afterwards. I just top it up a couple of times a year

MessyBun247 · 05/09/2017 15:51

I use Dr George's dental whitening gel. And a gumshield that I moulded to my mouth, a few quid off eBay. Works brilliantly and no pain or sensitivity. Lots of people comment how white they are. Years of staining disappeared after about 5 uses. I have naturally strong teeth though, it may be different to someone who has sensitive teeth. Worth a try though! Before spending hundreds.

MrJohnsonAteMyCustard · 05/09/2017 15:59

I used Crest Whitestrips years ago and was amazed (genuinely) and thrilled with the results. My teeth were grey. I was very self conscious and never smiled if I could avoid it.

I deliberated for years about teeth whitening and was put off because of the cost. Researched whitening strips, bought some and after the first day I could see a difference. It was a 28 day course but after a week I stopped at my teeth were great. Kept the others for top ups.

They are not for everyone as some can experience great sensitivity - I found it bearable and even more so given the results.

I did use the highest strength available, I think it was the 'Supreme'. Probably why they worked so quickly. I'm not keen on the idea of using them all the time so it's only a couple of times a year now that I used them.
