To want to get my nipples pierced?

Lifesastitch · 05/09/2017 07:23

I had a big birthday a few months ago and entered the midlife crisis era, I fancy getting my nipples pierced, I do think they look nice.
I ran this past DH who comment was - now that'll put a smile on my face as I walk through the door. 🙄.
Part of me thinks I'm nuts and should just age gracefully and yet another part of me thinks yeah, do it, live for the moment.
What are your thoughts? What are the pros and cons?

Go for it!

Billy Connolly got his nipple pierced pretty late in life, in Australia. Once it was completed, the piercer sat back and said, 'That's one more of us, and one less of the rest of them'.

shakingmyhead1 · 05/09/2017 07:30

go for it, hurts like a bitch but you get over it

Mothervulva · 05/09/2017 07:30

I've had my left nipple pierced twice. The first time it started to grow out so I had it redone, so I'm left with a scar on it. I've had a few piercings but it really hurts to get done and if you catch it on your clothes, bloody hell it hurts. None of my partners were particularly fussed for it and if they sniffed it, it had a cheesy whiff! Anyway, I took it out a few years ago and don't miss it.

fairiedemon · 05/09/2017 07:31

Once I'm done with infant rearing I'll be straight back to get mine done again! Love them! (Nipple bars are a choking hazard for breastfeeding so I ditched them for the time being)

Buggeritimgettingup · 05/09/2017 07:31

I did it when I'd finished having kids. Then had to take it out for number 6! I havent bothered putting it back in but i enjoyed it when I had it. It took a short while to heal ( less than my industrial in my ear) but was uber sensitive which is good and bad lol

Mothervulva · 05/09/2017 07:31

It looked cool though...

Cailleach666 · 05/09/2017 07:31

Sounds gruesome.

Nickynackynoodle · 05/09/2017 07:32

IT doesn't hurt to get done but you don't realise how many times you catch your nipple on things til you get it done. Ow ow ow. I love mine. Got it done when I was about 30.

Moanyoldcow · 05/09/2017 07:34

Someone I know ended up in A&E with a terrible infection from one and had to have a large amount of breast tissue removed.

Judging from PP that's not common though!

ElspethFlashman · 05/09/2017 07:36

Do it. I've had mine out for several years now but really enjoyed them at the time. Increased sensitivity, yay!

I had unobtrusive bars and they weren't too bad for catching. However they were a bitch for getting inflamed by fibres from clothing. I had a bottle of spray disinfectant that kept problems at bay but I had to use it every few months.

Cailleach666 · 05/09/2017 07:38

g. However they were a bitch for getting inflamed by fibres from clothing. I had a bottle of spray disinfectant

Each to their own I guess.

Hahahaha Grin

CoteDAzur · 05/09/2017 07:46

Do it if you want to. You can always take it off if you don't like it.

The pierced nipple grows much larger than the other one FYI. That you might not like.

Birdsgottafly · 05/09/2017 07:49

I'd worry about loss of sensitivity.

Follow the advice and don't get over ambitious about the size/weight of what you put in it, too soon.

My DD fell in love with a too-thick/heavy, Vampire teeth bar, but luckily she was off college, so could use disinfecting spray and keep it uncovered. She had it redone after six months and has had no issue with it.

IDefinitelyWould · 05/09/2017 07:49

Mine didn't Cote . I had mine done, had to take it out for breastfeeding but planning on getting it done again. It is my dangling reward for myself when I've lost a bit of weight! You need a nice soft supportive sports bra for when you get it done and for a week or so after. Go for It! :-)

Birdsgottafly · 05/09/2017 07:52

""IT doesn't hurt to get done"

My DD had hers redone at a Tattoo Convention, as did many others, the toilet was full of Women applying ice from the slushes they had bought.

HolyFuckBatman · 05/09/2017 07:54

I guess I'd say it depends on your life style. Are you done with breast feeding? I'm beyond the age where one might swan about topless at a festival showing it off. I am at the age where the only person who would see it is dh and where we've only got so much time in a week for him to look it. Nipples go funny after they've been done from scar tissue, will you be happy with one big hard nipple in the future? How will it look under clothes, will you be happy if you can a difference under clothes?

jaseyraex · 05/09/2017 07:54

Go for it! My OH has both his done. His advice has always been get them both done at the same time, piercer on each side, because it hurts like a bitch lol.

ElspethFlashman · 05/09/2017 07:57

Cailleach I honestly think you just come on threads to purse your lips.

ElspethFlashman · 05/09/2017 07:58

"One big hard nipple"? Omg. GrinGrinGrin

HolyFuckBatman · 05/09/2017 08:02

Dh's had one for years and he had to take them out for his job. (Police officer) he has one big hard nipple that's been fucked by scar tissue. I swear you could cut glass on it

Mothervulva · 05/09/2017 08:15

My pierced nipple is noticeably larger than my non pierced nip. And you can see the scar. I wasn't going to mention this, but the hole (of which there are three because the first piercing went wrong) fill up with that cheesy goo and I can squeeze it out. Now I'm a sporner so fine, but it's not for everyone.

GreyFluffball · 05/09/2017 08:40

I had mine done recently. I love it and it really didn't hurt at all. My nose piercing however! Ouch! Wish I'd done both at the same time but I was worried about soreness during healing. But it's been fine. Going back soon to do the other one.

alltouchedout · 05/09/2017 08:42

I want mine done. I was about to have them done when we discovered we were having ds3. He'll be 3 in November and as we're down to just one feed a day at bedtime it seems likely I will be free to get them pierced soon :)
