To think that there was such poor BBC coverage of the Queensferry Crossing opening.

Hardly mentioned on TV, only on local news.
This is a major structure, costing £1.2 billion pounds. the queen opened it this morning, it is the longest bridge of its construction type in the world.
I can't help feeling that if it had been constructed in the SE of England there would have been a little more media attention.

It had a lot of coverage last week, when it actually opened. I listened to a radio programme about it.

TheFallenMadonna · 04/09/2017 21:39

I am in East of England, so not local.

AgentProvocateur · 04/09/2017 21:40

It's a stunning bridge and deserves more publicity.

whyismykid · 04/09/2017 21:42

I walked over it yesterday, it's pretty awesome! Lots of local news coverage here so it's difficult to tell what's being shared elsewhere sometimes. Gordon Brown on radio 4 last week was interesting

JemmyBloocher · 04/09/2017 21:45

Watching it being built was awe-inspiring. I love it. A truly magnificent bridge and a credit to the engineers that designed it. I live in the Highlands now and only saw it bit by bit but don't remember seeing any fanfare on TV here. A real shame. I agree with OP, if it were in Surrey or something it would be a massive deal.

ReinettePompadour · 04/09/2017 21:47

Theres been loads of coverage for over a week on the itv news starting with the actual opening and thousands of people walking across it plus the Queen opening it officially today.

I'm in the West Midlands so nowhere near it and it's highly unlikely that I will ever actually see it let alone go across it. I'm a bit confused as to why we would need anymore coverage of it. Confused

EastMidsMummy · 04/09/2017 21:48

Trump's planning war. Brexit's a disaster. Global warming devastates the US and India...

The opening of a new bridge might be news locally. That's probably enough.

hooochycoo · 04/09/2017 21:50

It's not local news stuff! It's of national importance! It's right next to Scotland's capital city!

Domino20 · 04/09/2017 21:51

We drove past at about 12:30 and the whole thing seemed very very low key but it was absolutely chucking it down so not ideal. I can't imagine there was much to report really. The Bridge is stunning though.

Cailleach666 · 04/09/2017 21:52

Well I think it's of more importance than Kirsty Gallagher being caught drink driving or " boy finds snake in toilet" which the BBC have prioritised over the bridge on their web site.

CurbsideProphet · 04/09/2017 21:52

I'm in Lancs and have seen it on the bbc's national news several times over the last few days.

TheFallenMadonna · 04/09/2017 21:56

The BBC website gave it lots of room last week, when it actually opened.

BMW6 · 04/09/2017 21:56

Odd. I've seen it on BBC national news yesterday and today at least, every news programme.
I'm in Southampton - about as far away as you can get.

So I think YABU - lots of coverage of a new bridge opening.

TheFallenMadonna · 04/09/2017 21:58

Boy finds snake in toilet is a good story though...

PacificDogwod · 04/09/2017 22:00

I think it's an amazing structure and I love it, it is of course locally a very important improvement to infrastructure, but I am not sure it is 'news' as such? Confused
Although I take your point, so much counts as 'news' these days, why not a bridge?

BikeRunSki · 04/09/2017 22:07

I live in Yorkshire, and I know about it, but then, I am a civil engineer so I ought to! Went on a site visit there a couple of years ago, when I was at a conference in Edinburgh.

Bejazzled · 04/09/2017 22:12

It was covered in the BBC news at 6 then again on BBC Scotland at 6.30. Plenty coverage.

TheNaze73 · 04/09/2017 22:13

It's been in the news for at least a week. Whilst it's not been rolling 24 hour coverage, I think the story has had a lot of profile

Scuffinatop · 04/09/2017 22:15

STV2 did an entire live programme on the opening this morning.

Figgygal · 04/09/2017 22:16

It was well covered on sky news

Seniorcitizen1 · 04/09/2017 22:16

It was actually opened LAST week and was covered on all bbc national news - do keep up

Figgygal · 04/09/2017 22:16

Looked great

Sturgeon touched the queen WTF was she playing at!!

Roseformeplease · 04/09/2017 22:17

Hello, Nicola. Is that you?

FadedRed · 04/09/2017 22:20

English Midlands here. Seen and heard it several times on BBC, and on website.
The light show was pretty. Nice bridge.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 04/09/2017 22:21

I live in the SE and I know about it. Because it's been on the news. I.E. national news BBC and ITV
