There's a mouse in my kitchen and I'm terrified to go in there.

Earlier this evening I went to the kitchen to get a snack only to be greeted by a MOUSE I saw it ran across the count towards where my microwave is. I ran out screaming because it was the first time I'm seeing one in my house and I hate them, they make my skin crawl. Now I'm setting here terrified to go in there.Sad

The mouse I saw was a tiny one does that mean the rest of its family are living in my house too?

OP posts:
Sarahsue1 · 02/09/2017 23:44

How small? Like baby size small? Did you hear it or see it first?

NoSquirrels · 02/09/2017 23:52

They are pretty small, though.

OP, you may not like the idea of traps but you'll like a house full of the rampant breeding rodents a whole lot less.

shittyshitybangbang · 02/09/2017 23:53

@Sarahsue1 I'm worried now because when I wash and sterilise them I leave them in a bowl in the kitchen I've been doing that since he was born 10weeks ago.
Oh god I feel sick with worry now.SadShock

I have the tube tunnel traps, blob of peanut butter in the end, when they go in the door shuts then I can release it (alive) in the garden.

I did try a snaptrap but it caught the mouse across the face not the neck so not only was it alive , it was injured Sad I had to take it outside and dispatch it.

This evening DD shrieked , there was a huuuuge spider walking across the kitchen floor had to catch it in a glass.
I'm sure it was the same one I rescued from the bath (or its bigger brother)

We're mid terraced so yes, mice under the floorboards

shittyshitybangbang · 02/09/2017 23:57

@Sarahsue1 baby size and I saw it speed across the kitchen counter.

Was it dark brown and slinky or light brown and plump with bright black eyes? This time of year we always get the latte right field mice when they are harvesting and they always seem to fly solo. If it's dark brown it probably has a 'pack' somewhere else in the house I'm afraid!
I hate the blighters! Freaks me out completly! In our old house my stepson had one actually crawl up his leg under his jeans! He thought it was funny ! But I didn't goninn the lounge for a fortnight!

PenelopeFlintstone · 02/09/2017 23:57

tie a very long length of string to the trap That's an amazingly good idea and one I've never heard before. Round of applause!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/09/2017 23:59

Teeny ones are fieldmice (fawn/grey)
I sometimes see darker brown ones - are they housemce.

And there was one with a half tail, maybe he was caught but didn't take heed .

Sarahsue1 · 03/09/2017 00:04

@bangbang don't worry x if they had got near them or contaminated anything (sorry can't think of a better word - that sounds more dramatic than i mean it to) then you would have known he would have been sick. I only said it because we kept beaker things on the table where i saw one first so i was really conscious of it afterwards. Just keep bottles somewhere away until you know they are gone like a cupboard with heavy door or seal. It will be fine Flowers
@70isa we tried peanut butter but then got silverflies everywhere because the stupid mice were not so stupid and pissed off back to next door to die there instead. Apparently our traps were not interesting enough and they just wouldn't take the bait but went in next doors ones with no bait?!!!! Snfkcsocbdocbdocbdpcbdofbdk

Sarahsue1 · 03/09/2017 00:09

And @bangbang the formula especially - they will like the smell of it so will know - leave nothing out on the counters at all no food and nothing you don't want them to come across - if you have enough storage space just shove it all in cupboards or else air tight containers. X

shittyshitybangbang · 03/09/2017 00:09

@Fruitbat1980 I couldn't tell you I ran as soon as I saw it but thanks for the mental image. Shock

BubbleAnimal · 03/09/2017 00:21

Shitty it may not be the same mouse. You need to get traps and rentokil out tomorrow.

LuLuuuuuuu · 03/09/2017 00:21

70Lisa .. Usually the darker brown are housemice .

I could tell you all about an episode with a sofa and a rat . ..

But I won't Grin

LuLuuuuuuu · 03/09/2017 00:22

70isa rather ,read it as 70lisa .

Sarahsue1 · 03/09/2017 00:22

Oh shit op. I don't know what your situation is but if it's there running around you can call a pest control and they will come out and trap it like now. They do 24 hour things. This is what i did as dp was away and i am a grade a wimp. I also told a huge fab and told man on phone it was a rat ... just to make sure they took it serious...☠️

shittyshitybangbang · 03/09/2017 00:27

This can't be happening I blame Birmingham city council for this for letting the bin strike go on for 10weeks the streets were filled with rats and maggots I lived in my flat for a year and now the mice show up. Angry

OP posts:
Sarahsue1 · 03/09/2017 00:28

That's how i felt the 'this cant be happening' it feels like a sly invasion of your space it's horrible. But you will get rid of them definitely can be done - worst part is seeing them the first time so just take a breather and have a plan to get them out Flowers

ForgotwhatIcameinherefor · 03/09/2017 00:30

Thanks Laurie and Penelope :)
I must add that first time I did this the mouse was still alive so didn't think I could bring myself to pull the length of white wool purchased to make Christmas pom-poms string taut and feel mousey movements so called a strapping 6ft3 young neighbour over who firstly turned and ran before taking the little Mickey for a slooooow mo cruise to the front door.
Many mice later (thanks to dreadful private landlord/letting agency) I "progressed" to picking traps up with a pair of exclusive-for-mousetrap-use tongs. Less faffing.
Op, there can just be one mouse sometimes. It does happen x

SadCatDiary · 03/09/2017 01:40

You gonna fix DAT mouse yah.

PenelopeFlintstone · 03/09/2017 01:44

Oh, gross! Shock

Babymamamama · 03/09/2017 01:53

Get a professional in to seal up the entry points to your home. I'm also v scared and had to do this. Well worth the money.

sharklovers · 03/09/2017 08:13

I think you need to get a grip! Grab a couple of traditional mouse traps (v cheap) and bait them with pieces of twix. Once you've caught it just bin the trap and the mouse. Job jobbed.

Pandoraslastchance · 03/09/2017 08:36

Sorry but I'm laughing at forgotwhaticameinherefor with their exclusive mouse trap picking up things Grin
