To watch naked attraction with my 16yo

Just wondered what people's thoughts were. Last night whilst channel hopping I came across naked attraction and decided to see what all the fuss was about. DD came downstairs and we ended up watching together. Talking about the body parts (not just genitals) of the contestants. My sister phoned during the program and couldn't believe I was watching with DD!

I think that's fine. I would have watched it with my mum at that age! It's good to have an open and trusting dialogue between parents and teenagers.

PaperdollCartoon · 02/09/2017 17:56
  • about all things, especially bodies and sex
Papafran · 02/09/2017 17:58

Watching that with my mum would be the ultimate in cringe-fest but if she is happy, why not?

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 02/09/2017 17:58

I wouldn't have a problem watching it with my 16yr old DS. I've learnt loads about body bits from it.

(Not that DS would want to, all those dangly bits, sex talk, in front of your mother might be too much for him to bear 😵😀😵)

MyBrilliantDisguise · 02/09/2017 18:00

My daughter's older than that but we love watching it! I made the mistake of asking on Twitter why anyone would be in the show and one of the contestants was sending me messages about it. He'd had more sex since being on it than in his life beforehand Grin

VestalVirgin · 02/09/2017 18:04

Was her disbelief because you watch that sort of Reality TV, or because she thought your daughter could be scarred for life by seeing naked people at age 16?

I am not sure what exactly it is about, but it sounds a bit like Big Brother and the like, and I'd probably roll my eyes a bit.

PollyFlint · 02/09/2017 18:07

It's only nudity. I'd totally have watched that sort of thing with my mum when I was 16 and we'd have laughed all the way through. It's all very harmless stuff, there's nothing remotely sexy about it.

PollyFlint · 02/09/2017 18:08

It's not like that at all.

MrsJamesAspey · 02/09/2017 18:20

I was watching it last week when both my 12 year old and 15 year old came into the room, we were laughing about how mad it was. I think it's healthy for them to see how much people's bodies vary and that there is no "normal" everyone's different.

Mawalls · 02/09/2017 20:08

This is a warning sign for grooming

ScarlettDarling · 02/09/2017 20:11

Mawalls Can you explain what you mean?

Migraleve · 02/09/2017 20:15

This is a warning sign for grooming

Confused WTF?

• A predator might take advantage of a child’s natural curiosity about sex by telling “dirty” jokes, showing him or her pornography or by playing sexual games. If your child starts to talk (uncharacteristically) about sex and things related to it, never overlook this kind of development because it might be a sign that he or she is being groomed. Be aware of the physical signs as well. If your toddler is masturbating or trying to touch others inappropriately, this may be a sign that there is a problem.

AllTheWittyNamesAreGone · 02/09/2017 20:20

Well this escalated quickly

Sayyouwill · 02/09/2017 20:21

@Mawalls the 'child' is 16 in this case.... I'm pretty sure most 16yos know about nakedness and sex...

Mawalls · 02/09/2017 20:22

Im sure most 13 year olds know about sex...

abigamarone · 02/09/2017 20:24

Naked does not, never has, and never will equate to porn.

Mawalls · 02/09/2017 20:26

The case aginst naturism videos featuring children says it does

DrMadelineMaxwell · 02/09/2017 20:29

DD (16) was channel flicking and caught that programme just as they were doing the big reveal of the naked bodies.

She shouted "WHYYY!" in disbelief and turned it off. :) :) Rubbish, gratuitous programme.

ScarlettDarling · 02/09/2017 20:30

Mawalls I'm not sure if I'm understanding what you mean. Are you suggesting that by watching this show with her dc, the op could be said to be grooming her daughter?

MrsJamesAspey · 02/09/2017 20:30

mawalls are you seriously saying that a 16 year old watching naked attraction with their parent equals "grooming" ?

I wouldn't have an issue with 16yo DD seeing nudity but that programme is utter shite.

Eliminating or- worse- choosing potential dates based on their naked body? No.

Mawalls · 02/09/2017 20:40

You seem uncommonly pleased with your transitiveness boundary breaking but are now pretending to ask a question with no interest in an answer, simply trying to encourage other such tales
Confused:

Oh agree 100%. As with all of these type programmes we talked about how shite it was Grin
