HATE the phrase "was she/he on glue". This is a horrible phrase and I am sure glue is not used as a high anymore! E.g. The nurse and the policeman thread for one!

DragonsandDungeons · 01/09/2017 23:33

I'm a youngun and the phrase of choice tends to be "is he on crack?". I'm not sure that's any better though.

ThoseFemalesAreStrongAsHell · 01/09/2017 23:33

TBF, it was funny when it was first said but it is overused now. Like 'cancel the cheque' and 'darked on'. Not funny anymore.

bitemytoenails · 01/09/2017 23:33

MNetters use alot of shitty phrases imo

are you on glue?
you sound/are unhinged?
ODFOD

lots more, just make the poster look like a twat imo

ScissorBow · 01/09/2017 23:35

I believe glue comes from a particular thread where a poster asked if the perpetrator of the unreasonable action was on glue.

HTH

Edgeofthedesert · 01/09/2017 23:35

Darked on? Never heard that one before.

Mollypolly2610 · 01/09/2017 23:39

Haha. I still like "darked on" as often do this myself! It's maybe just the word "glue" that irks me so much. Sounds like something a teenager would say in the 90s.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 01/09/2017 23:41

I have no idea what the cancel the cheque thing is. The 'darked on' seems to have everyone in tears of laughter along with the spider willys. Hmm

ThoseFemalesAreStrongAsHell · 01/09/2017 23:43

Edgeofthedesert darked on is when you leave your washing outside overnight. Originated from a thread which caused much hilarity.

Was vaguely amusing. The first time. But is overused now, im surprised you havent seen it yet!

ThoseFemalesAreStrongAsHell · 01/09/2017 23:47

Sparklingbrook im not entirely sure about the spiders willies either which is obviously highly amusing..

Fruitcocktail6 · 01/09/2017 23:49

Tbf there's many threads that have people 'in tears of laughter' or shaking from laughing so much in bed they wake their OH up. I don't think I've done that with any thread, beyond a little chuckle.

Sparklingbrook · 01/09/2017 23:50

It appears that people think the spiders drag their willys across the washing while it is being 'darked on'. I have no idea why people think that's true/hilarious.

But then I get my washing in at night like a normal person.

bitemytoenails · 01/09/2017 23:50

HTH that's another shitty response

ThoseFemalesAreStrongAsHell · 01/09/2017 23:59

Same, fruit. Sometimes whilst reading a thread I have snorted extra air out of nostrils at something ive found funny. I have never spat my tea all over my keyboard or similar.

Tbh though a lot of threads now which start off as 'lighthearted' make me Hmm at replies so its not even that much fun nowGrin

WorraLiberty · 02/09/2017 00:01

Or 'literally sobbing here'... 'In floods of tears' at something a little bit sad that might make your eyes water a tiny bit.

People do like to exaggerate these things.

Hiphopopotamus · 02/09/2017 00:02

You know what though - being 'too cool' to use or even just ignore some of the funny well known phrases can make you look like even more of a smug twat.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/09/2017 00:03

Or worse, the little bit of wee type thing. Even if that one is true for some people, Do we really want to know?

There are a few occasions when ODFOD really does seem like the most appropriate and politest response though.

Mollypolly2610 · 02/09/2017 00:08

Would love to say ODFOD in RL

OP posts:
ThoseFemalesAreStrongAsHell · 02/09/2017 00:13

Hiphopopotamus I do mainly just roll my eyes at my phone and click off the thread when a 'well known phrase' is used.

However, when one of these phrases are used and posters are saying how hilarious it is and when a new poster or someone who hasnt heard the phrase before and asks but gets ignored over all the 'HAHAHAHA yes so funny' it makes them look smug also.

There was a thread the other week although I cant even remember what it was about and it got suggested it was moved to OTBT and posters were referring to it as 'the other place' and not telling other posters what it was or 'ill PM you' WHY?! What is the need ffs. Just tell them!

M00nUnit · 02/09/2017 00:48

"Are you on glue" doesn't originate from mumsnet. I first heard someone say it in real life about 20 years ago.

gingergenius · 02/09/2017 00:58

I did actually use ODFOD in RL today. It was very satisfying!!!

4691IrradiatedHaggis · 02/09/2017 01:07

I need to use Oh do fuck off dear in RL. I'm far too wet though.

tempingbowling · 02/09/2017 01:14

Told someone to "fuck off to the far side of fuck and then some more" very recently IRL

I thanked MN inwardly. It felt awesome and highly appropriate

Windytwigs · 02/09/2017 01:18

Excellent, thosefemales, I've found a fellow 'horse snorter' Grin

endehors · 02/09/2017 01:19

Darked is mildly funny, but if it becomes overused, like 'naice ham' or 'are you on glue, then I can see myself quickly going off it.

You can get deleted for an ODFOD now, apparently.

However, I do like it when somebody (usually up to their eyeballs in a bun fight) says "Did you mean to be so rude?" It rarely seems to help them, but...

endehors · 02/09/2017 01:20

The 'unhinged' one is a bit dubious, I always think, Toenails. I've seen that deleted before.
