HATE the phrase "was she/he on glue". This is a horrible phrase and I am sure glue is not used as a high anymore! E.g. The nurse and the policeman thread for one!

OP posts:
DailyMailReadersAreThick · 02/09/2017 01:44

The most twattish one is when hordes of people using the sickening "Dear/darling" husband acronym mock a new poster for talking about their 'hubby.'

PicardsCombOver · 02/09/2017 02:01

What IS OTBT? I've seen that a few times but always forget to ask.

Postagestamppat · 02/09/2017 02:22

What do ODFOD and HTH mean?

NewBrian · 02/09/2017 02:26

ODFOD - oh do fuck off dear
HTH- hope that helps

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 02/09/2017 03:00

OTBT - Off The Beaten Track, a section where threads are not searchable and never show up in Active Convos, etc.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 02/09/2017 03:00

Oh and threads are deleted automatically after 30 days.

daisychain01 · 02/09/2017 03:24

'cancel the cheque' is on the theme of RTFT - its from a thread where about 5 or 6 different posters came on, as if they were coming up with a bright new idea, suggesting the OP cancel their cheque for a wedding present because the recipient didn't think it was enough money.

It was funny on that thread, but like anything, flogging a dead horse often enough is criminal and should be outlawed.

GetOutOfMYGarden · 02/09/2017 03:48

I am sure glue is not used as a high anymore!

You're a bit naive there OP!

LaughingElliot · 02/09/2017 04:41

I so agree, the glue thing is very cringey. It wasn't even funny the first time 🙄

There's a LOT of repetition and twattery amongst some posters seemingly desperate to mark themselves out as cool. I always think it's very dickish.

I prefer " are you on crack? " bit more up to date.

Hate - Fuck off to the far side of fuck then fuck off some more SO much. Cringefest.

LinoleumBlownapart · 02/09/2017 09:31

The "are you on glue?" thing isn't new. It's A late 80's/90's phrase and those that hadn't heard it used to death back then thought it was funny.

hippyhippyshake · 02/09/2017 09:35

I hate 'settles down with popcorn'. So old now. I love ODFOD AND FOTTFSOFAWYGTFOSM.

I used 'Did you mean to be so rude?' in Tesco the other day when a man purposely pushed me from behind because I was in his way. Apparently I should have known where he wanted to go.

LinoleumBlownapart · 02/09/2017 09:35

The great thing about "fuck off" is that it's short, sharp and to the point. "fuck off to the far side of fuck then fuck off some more" is like the Mr. Bean version of fuck off.

Bluntness100 · 02/09/2017 09:36

To be fair, I quite like the ODFOD one. The rest I agree. I think the most cringe is when people say " I spit my coffee out I laughed so hard" or some such shit. Eh, sycophantic much? No you didn't. Stop being a twat.

LinoleumBlownapart · 02/09/2017 09:39

hippy it's appropriate in that scenario. Said in the middle of a bun fight where several insults have been hurled out by all sides and then one person retaliates with "did you mean to be so rude?" is classic mumsnet ridiculous.

RapunzelsRealMom · 02/09/2017 09:50

I like "are you high?"

We used it years ago then it resurfaced on the movie 'Stepbrothers'.

It's used in jest, mind you

TroysMammy · 02/09/2017 09:55

I absolutely hate "get your ducks in a row". Seen it mentioned on numerous LTB threads. Also "not my circus, not my monkeys." Do people really say that in rl?

PicardsCombOver · 02/09/2017 11:00

Troysmammy I say 'not my circus, not my monkeys' almost daily. It's a mantra rather than just a casual saying dropped into conversation.
Cringe is the worst word used on this site. It was something I said when I was 12 and my mum did something embarassing. I have moved on. So should everyone else.

AlpacaLypse · 02/09/2017 11:13

In-jokes and catchphrases are always appearing like mist on a summer morning on here - just like any community. But they can be overused and become unfunny even more quickly online that in real life.

I have found myself using some bits of MN derived slang in the real world (usually directed at other motorists under my breath Grin). Sometimes I'm not sure if it originated on MN or not. 'Twatbadger', 'Cockwomble', 'Oh Do Fuck Off Dear' and 'Cocklodger' have all featured recently.

KungFuPandaWorksOut16 · 02/09/2017 11:44

I loathe ODFOD.

I just can't see it being used in real life and if it was a lot of HmmConfused faces.

I just have an imagine one somebody responds ODFOD they give themselves a high 5 for being so witty and sassy.

quercuscircus · 02/09/2017 12:43

You have to say "are you on glue" in a Peter Kaye voice and at the right moment.

I also loathe ODFOD. It is really smug, condescending and sneery. A plain fuck off is much better.

SpottedGingham · 02/09/2017 13:57

As someone whose friend died at 16 by inhalant abuse, I've always hated the glue remark. It's not funny, clever or witty.

RaininSummer · 02/09/2017 14:16

All of the above but can I add those ones where people have 'been a little bit sick in their mouth'. Has that ever actually happened from reading something? It actually makes me feel a little bit sick in my mouth :)

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 02/09/2017 18:12

I really really hate "boils my piss" but in fairness that is not a MN thing, it's just a thing.
