To want this car moved?

I own a business in a small village. We have a reasonable sized car park to the rear, and there's been a car parked in it for over 2 weeks. I haven't seen it move or anyone go to it. It's not doing any harm a part from taking up a customers space. I've checked the tax and MOT it is taxed but it says there is no MOT details. I really wouldn't mind, I've had people from the village park there before for a few days/weeks if they've been having their drive done or relatives staying and I've always said yes. This is just bugging me that they've just left it there. I doubt there's anything that can be done though??

Maybe try ringing the Police (non Emergency number) and say you are concerned that cars have been abandoned in your car park and you want to report them in case they are stolen

scurryfunge · 01/09/2017 16:20

Put a notice on it telling the owner it needs to be removed. Put a picture of it on Facebook to see if anyone knows the owner.

Out2pasture · 01/09/2017 16:23

It could easily be a stollen vehicle. Report it to the police.

Gorgosparta · 01/09/2017 16:34

We had a car parked outside our house dpr about 2 weeks and it didnt seem to move. Dh works from home and noticed it was there all the time.

We askes the neighbours and they didnt know who owned it. So we called 101 and gave the reg number and it turned out they were trying to trace it. They came straight away and had it towed away.

LittleWitch · 01/09/2017 16:38

Ring the council and report it as abandoned. They will come along and stick a notice on it, then they will come and take it away to be crushed. We've just done this with a wreck car that was parked on the pavement outside our elderly neighbour's house. No MOT.

Police won't do anything.

scurryfunge · 01/09/2017 16:39

Little witch, the council wont act if it is on private land.

Nikephorus · 01/09/2017 16:40

Dismantle it and sell it for scrap? The owner won't know Grin

HidingBehindTheWallpaper · 01/09/2017 16:40

If it's on private land and not causing an obstruction then the council won't do anything.

If there's no MoT then the car is not insured. Report it to DVLA, on line it's anonymous.

Forgettheworld · 01/09/2017 16:48

I think a note on it may be the best option for now. I don't want to waste anyone's time. It doesn't look stolen it's parked lovely and there's no damage to it. It's quite a new car so why would they just leave it here if stolen. Just because I haven't seen it move doesn't mean they haven't I don't watch constantly. But I'm going to have to start!

Call 101. Might be stolen or sonething.

scurryfunge · 01/09/2017 16:51

Car thieves will sometimes park the vehicle up for a while to see if there is a tracker but 2 weeks seems a bit long.

AhhhhThatsBass · 01/09/2017 16:51

I'd look to have it moved. It's on private property. You're not a public car park!

Benedikte2 · 01/09/2017 16:51

OP put a chalk mark on the tread of a front tyre, then you'll know if it's been moved

Neutrogena · 01/09/2017 16:52

There a lot of these recently.
I'd potentially stick a piece of A4 saying 'Please move car - this is private land' on windscreen

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 01/09/2017 16:54

A new, well kept, car parked up for 2 weeks straight is either stolen or waiting for the owner to come back from holiday.

It could be that one of your neighbours, perhaps whom you have previously given permission to use the car park to, has travelled with a friend & "let them" park their car there while they are away?

If it's your private property OP, call the police to start with. If only to rule out the possibility of it being a stolen vehicle.

Gemini69 · 01/09/2017 16:55

who will see the Note ? if it's been there 2 weeks already .. it's unlikely anyone will see the Note until they return....

Ifailed · 01/09/2017 16:56

treat it as fly tipping. Report to local council, then get someone to remove it and share the proceeds of any sale.

scurryfunge · 01/09/2017 16:57

There are steps you have to take Gemini before op can arrange removal. Get legal advice op if you do decide to have it removed.

Forgettheworld · 01/09/2017 17:00

I've emailed the council see what they say. Now to write the note and get it on before DP sees he'd happily just let it stay there.

If it's under 3 years old it won't need an MOT yet, so that's probably why there are no MOT details.
Our council won't remove cars unless they are not fit to drive, not MOT'd or obviously abandoned for a long time
There's been a car parked in a neighbouring road for 3 months now, it never moves, it's got 2 flat tyres and is covered in bird shit and they won't move it.
Definitely report to 101 in case it's stolen and ask their advice but they won't move it for you unless it's been reported stolen
They may indicate to you that it's registered in the local area, but not much more than that I don't think

Any chance your local rugby club could move it for you? Wink

LizB62A · 01/09/2017 17:02

Ooh - install penguin bollards so that they have to come and ask you to let them out !

pinkdelight · 01/09/2017 17:12

Have you got signs up saying it's a private car park? In future might be worth having a sign saying what'll happen if people park there - clamped/towed whatever, then they'll know the consequences and you'll have a plan in future. Hope it gets sorted soon.
