To want this car moved?

I own a business in a small village. We have a reasonable sized car park to the rear, and there's been a car parked in it for over 2 weeks. I haven't seen it move or anyone go to it. It's not doing any harm a part from taking up a customers space. I've checked the tax and MOT it is taxed but it says there is no MOT details. I really wouldn't mind, I've had people from the village park there before for a few days/weeks if they've been having their drive done or relatives staying and I've always said yes. This is just bugging me that they've just left it there. I doubt there's anything that can be done though??

Where is it? I need some new wing mirrors...

GrumpyOldBag · 01/09/2017 17:26

I would report it to the police, non-emergency number - in case it's stolen or been reported missing.

PollyPerky · 01/09/2017 17:29

why would anyone drive to a small village to park unless they had a reason to be there or in the vicinity?

You really need to get some gates, or CCTV or signs to say this is a private car park.

First, contact the police because it's an abandoned vehicle. They will check reported stolen cars. They can also access DVLC to find the owner.

This is not a 'council' matter as it's private land.

TidyDancer · 01/09/2017 18:12

Don't assume the council won't help, they can act on abandoned vehicles on private land but the landowner must assume all legal responsibility if they investigate and subsequently remove the car. Most councils won't store vehicles due to cost, so it would be crushed. Although you would end up with the car gone, it could potentially be more trouble than it's worth at this stage.

I would go down the route of putting a sign on the car yourself and see if anyone comes forward.

So I decided to call the local police station. They said the vehicle wasn't stolen. They phoned the owner who does live near by. They said that the owner has recently moved back to live with parents and there was no room on his parents drive or on the street so he'd parked it in our car park. The police have asked him to speak to me tomorrow for permission to park here. It's strange it hasn't moved though

Cheeky bugger to park there without asking.

LizB62A · 01/09/2017 21:21

cheeky git!

LittleWitch · 04/09/2017 13:16

The council did act. The car has been moved.

LittleWitch · 04/09/2017 13:17

And we're in a small village.

LizB62A · 06/09/2017 09:09

Littlewitch - didn't you say the car was on the pavement? The council would do something there as they look after the roads and pavements, but this car is on private land, which is nothing to do with the council

Plus, a wrecked car is more likely to be dangerous to pedestrians and more likely to be dealt with

From our council's website:
Vehicles which are burnt out or in a dangerously damaged condition may be removed immediately without prior notice to the owner.

Vehicles inspected and not considered abandoned will not normally be considered for re-inspection until they have been unmoved for at least three months from the date of the report.

LittleWitch · 06/09/2017 16:19

It was on the pavement. There's another one in the same spot now Confused.
